Chapter 27 - Aftermath

As the camp was littered with lifeless bodies and the bloody scent of carnage, Li Yan first ordered the site to be cleaned up as well as to scour the nearby vicinity for any more potential threats. 

The scouts immediately scattered across the vicinity and a thorough search began while the others quickly gathered the corpses of the enemies and allies alike from all over the battlefield. 

Then the bodies were burned together using the wood available in the forest. As the smoke from the cremation rose in the sky, everyone prayed for the spirits of the deceased to reach the heavens through the smoke. 

Shijie, who was grateful for the soldier's sacrifice to protect him and his mother was probably the one who prayed most piously among all. He was deeply saddened to see some of the soldiers he had seen throughout the journey become ash in the raging flames of death and inexplicable anger rose in his heart.
