Chapter 37 - What font?

The students in the class gasped as they felt the power of the concentration talisman. Surrounded by a glow, they fully embraced the power of the talisman as they felt their mind clear up.

Zhu jiao was one of those who felt the power of the talisman. Not only that because of his he could even see the field in which the talisman's power had reached.

"This talisman was made by me. I'll explain to you why creating a passive talisman is much harder than creating an active talisman. Previously when you tried to create the talisman, you visualized the skill in your thoughts before getting a symbol and transferring it to the paper right?"

The students all nodded as they listened intently.

"Think about this, for a passive talisman it goes beyond just creating something from your thoughts. It should be something you have experienced, you have to take away from your experiences. For example, this concentration talisman was created after focusing for over a decade, it's the combined efforts of my decade of working on talisman creation."

Da Hua Jia rolled up the talisman and kept it before continuing.

"If there is a talisman master who wants to create passive defense talismans what he/she has to do is endure the hardships of being under attack. It is said that Fang Shou Wang, the master of the defensive talismans endured a beating for 7 x 7, 49 days in total before he gained the inspiration to create a defensive talisman and that is only after decades worth of training."

"It's the same for the speed master Wo Hen Kuai, he had trained and ran an ungodly amount of distance before he managed to attain nirvana and he came up with the speed talisman. Of course, not everyone achieves enlightenment in the same way. In a similar vein, Bei Lei Pi, another speed talisman creator got struck by lightning, allowing him to tap into something known as the speed … core to create the speed talisman."

Da Hua Jia nodded as she continued to the center of the class to take a closer look at every one.

"Right now, in front of all of you are sets of blank papers. Previously we gave you a hands-on and only a few of you managed to create an active talisman, this means the rest of you are not at the level yet. Those of you who managed to make an active talisman, are able to progress to the next stage. A challenge issued by the founder of this elective plenty of generations ago. It has been handed down year after year and we still haven't found someone who could do it yet."

Da Hua Jia tried to get a feel from the class to see if anyone was motivated by the way she was dragging out her speech. Clearing her throat she continued.

"The reward for accomplishing this challenge is an immediate pass and graduation from this elective. Meaning you won't ever need to come back for lessons and your passing grade is A."

Hearing this, an itch surfaced in Zhu Jiao's heart. He liked a drawing class, but at the same time, getting an easy A and skipping classes really called out to his inner desire. It didn't really help when his inner demon is also on the same page encouraging Zhu Jiao to try it out. Zhu Jiao's ears perked up as he continued to listen in waiting for her to disclose the challenge.

"Now that I have all of your attention, your challenge is, from now until the end of the class, you must complete a working passive talisman. Once you do that and I verify it, you are given an A grade. Otherwise, you'll just have to work hard and hope you pass it at the end of the year. Don't worry, many people finish the course unable to create a passive talisman. I only managed to create one after a decade."

She smiled and nodded to her students, looking at Zhu Jiao looking blankly down at her, she decided to add a few more words for the young lad.

"You, try not to blow up the classroom this time…"

After saying her piece she walked back to the front of the classroom and asked her students to begin, those who haven't made an active talisman will have to try again, and those who have already finished can take up the challenge.

Once again Zhu Jiao was left sitting there staring at the blank paper. He had no idea what he wanted to do or draw. There was no inspiration coming to him whatsoever, leaning back he closed his eyes as he let his mind start to wander.

"What effect should I try to emulate, a strength talisman? What's the point? How would it help me? Oh! Maybe I could make a strength talisman so that I can let Shi Tou be as strong as me? That would keep him motivated… Wait motivation… My gym needs decoration! A motivational poster is something like a talisman right?"

Zhu Jiao closed his eyes as he started to visualize a scene. It's an iron paradise, plenty of brawny beefy guys are on the free weights and the machines, the sound of iron banging and clanging. Huge guys checking themselves out on the mirrors, his thoughts focused on a singular muscle-bound guy holding up his phone in front of a mirror.

Taking the photo, he typed in his caption. "The only bad workout is the one that didn't happen."

Smiling and content with himself he walked away. Everything vanished slowly as his mind turned blank and white as paper, only the words remained lit up in his mind.

"The only bad workout is the one that didn't happen."

With the words stuck in his mind, he knew exactly what he needed to draw. Now only one big problem remains. The one question he needed to answer before he started to draw was, Times new roman or Helvetica?
