Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

Lyria's POV

The next day I woke up freezing from the still damp furs I had on. Sitting up I move my hands up and down my arms trying to warm myself back up.

"Go out and run around for a bit till you warm yourself up. That will help but you need to change into dry clothes. Run home put some dry clothes on and come back, but be careful." The Tree is always so caring towards little Lyria. She wanted to give it a name. The tree gives off an elderly female persona.

"May I give you a name?" I ask through chattering teeth.

"I would love that, please do."

"Okay.. how about .. hmmmm... Nona?" Feeling proud of the name I came up with I smile brightly.

"That sounds wonderful. Please call me Nona from now on." Nona sounded pleased with the new name.

Feeling satisfied, I run as fast as I could back home making sure to stay low to the ground so I'm not easily spotted. Even though I live in a village of predators, no one really expects danger to come into the village Making it easier to sneak around. Once I make it home I listen in to see if anyone is in dads room where my extra clothes were kept. When I don't hear anyone in there I look around, back up some, and take off towards the window. I jump up and through the window when I get close enough. I quickly change into some dry furs and pack a couple extra along with some fur blankets in a sack. I throw the sack out first before I back up for a running start. Before I move I hear a knock on the front door. I don't know why I stopped but I did and listened in on what was going on in the main part of our hut.

"Head priest, what are you doing here so early in the morning? Everyone has already left for duty." I hear one of my brothers say. I hold my breath to make sure I'm not heard.

"Do you know where I can find the general?"

"He should be with the chief on the training grounds at the back of the village."

"Alright, thank you. I'll be leaving now." The door closes and I feel like I can finally breathe again. I wait a moment longer before running and leaping through the window landing on my feet outside. Grabbing the sack next to me I get up and sprint for the hideout.

I lay out the fur blankets to make a bed and leave the clothes in the sack and put it to the side for now. I have a feeling I'm going to be here for a while. I sit on the bed I made but it's not very comfortable. How did dad make it? What was under the furs? I sat and thought of the answer to my questions. I remember always smelling like I was outside laying on the grass. Could that be it?

"Nona, do I put grass under the furs to make the bed more comfortable?" I try my luck in asking Nona.

"You must let the grass dry out in the sun for a whole day before you can make a bed out of it, otherwise it'll mold and leave a strange smell."

When she finished speaking I ran out to a field and pulled up a lot of grass. I left it there to dry out and went back to the hideout.

Standing in the center of the room I see there's a lot of empty space. I would like to fill it up but how?

I guess if I'm going to do anything I'm going to need tools to do it. I need rocks, wood, and water. I remember watching dad and my big brothers making their tools. I go back out and gather up the things I need, only I can't take them back to the hideout for now. I only have one water source there and I don't want to dirty it with my work.
