October 8th (Friday)
"You should ask Shay to the homecoming dance." Julia said as we walked towards the football field.
Everyone else had gone ahead of us because Julia had forgotten her jacket so we went back for it.
I signed I haven't talked to him in over a month.
"I know but I still catch him looking at you during lunch or before school if he can find you and if he won't ask you to the dance then you should do it." She said.
I signed you know what will happen if I did that.
She shook her head.
"Marie, I love you and think of you as my sister. You should be able to date whoever you want whether they are in our social clique or not. Do I think Shay can be a jerk sometimes? Yeah but that's all guys and besides the occasional back talking to teachers, he hasn't gotten in trouble since the fight with Eric." She said.
I signed and they would fight again if I went to the dance with either one of them. I think I should just avoid the dance and not go and continue to try to avoid both of them.
"For the rest of your life? Marie, my brother will get over it and you have told him time and time again that you don't like him as more than a friend." She said lowering her voice some as we walked into the stands.
I signed it would be going against my friends.
She sighed before shaking her head.
"I will still be there for you and again I think the social clique thing at this school is way overrated." She said in a low voice just above a whisper.
"Speaking of Shay." She said before doing a low whistle.
I looked at where she was looking to see Ryder, Shay, and Clint sitting in their usual spot (5 rows in front of us). Shay was wearing a white shirt and a dark pair of pants plus he had a leather jacket on. He had his earring in his left ear and his black hair was spiked up a little bit. I also noticed that Blair Everett was sitting with them and on the other side of Clint. Blair is a junior like us and is also known to cause trouble from time to time.
"He looks good in that leather jacket and that white shirt." She said in a low voice and shaking her head with a smile on her face.
"Girls." Ryder said when we were almost to their row then Clint and Shay looked to see us.
"You two going to stay out of trouble for another week for you two can go to the homecoming dance?" Julia asked stopping then I stopped beside her.
"You know I hate dances." Ryder said before winking at her and she rolled her eyes then I looked down at my hands.
"I never go to dances; I find them boring and no fun." Clint said.
"Shay and I are going to the dance together so we'll see you there." Blair said.
I looked up from my hands to see Blair staring right at me.
I signed congrats to her then I walked up the stands.
It didn't take long after I sat down for Julia to sit down beside me.
"I'm sorry Marie; I didn't know they liked each other." Julia whispered to me.
I signed its fine I'm happy for them.
She just looked at me before nodding her head then I looked at the football field.
The football game went by fast and we ended up winning. Afterwards, when I was walking into the parking lot with Julia we saw Shay and them hanging around Clint's truck. Blair was standing really close to Shay as all of them talked about something. Given where Clint was parked, we would have to walk past them to get to Julia's car since I rode with her.
"Girls." Ryder said when he saw Julia and me as we got close to Clint's truck.
Julia rolled her eyes at him and he laughed. I kept looking forward and Julia smiled at me.
"You girls headed to the diner like usual?" Clint asked.
"Depends on what Eric picks but it's really none of your business." Julia said before flipping him off.
I signed just ignore them and Julia nodded her head at me.
When we got to her car, I got in while Julia stayed out for a little bit to see if she could figure out where Eric and them wanted to go.
Eric ended up wanting to go to the Pizza Shack so that's where we went. The whole time there I didn't really say anything and barely ate anything.
The next day Eric came over to my house and handed me a pink rose before asking me to go to the dance with him. I told him no then he said he promised to not cause any trouble all he wanted was just one date. I told him no I didn't like him that way. He looked mad but he just nodded his head and said okay.
Monday( Oct. 11th)
Shay's POV
Not long after I sat down at our usual table with Ryder, Blair joined us. Blair started hanging out with us after the fight with Eric. When she asked me to the dance last Monday, I said yes because Marie still wasn't talking to me and I figured Marie was right we were just too different and really I thought she would never give me a chance no matter what I did. Blair was like me and seemed to like me for me so I thought what could it hurt to go to the dance with her. Blair was sitting on my right side and showing me the color of her dress for the homecoming dance when someone stopped in front of our table. I looked up to see Eric and Tucker.
"We don't want any trouble." Ryder said looking at them.
"New girlfriend?" Eric asked looking at Blair then at me.
"None of your business but we are going to the dance together." Blair said before flipping him off.
"Definitely your type." Tucker said shaking his head.
"You two have a reason for coming over here?" I asked.
"Yeah just to tell you I want a truce." Eric said.
"Truce? So you will quit bothering him if he talks to Marie?" Ryder asked.
Blair looked at me.
"If she wants to talk to him sure." Eric said.
"Whatever sure." I said and Blair linked her fingers with mine on my right hand.
Eric looked at us holding hands before smiling at me then he walked away.
"You two do make a great couple." Tucker said shaking his head at Blair and me then he followed Eric.
"Ok that was strange." Ryder said and I nodded my head.
The bell rung not long after that and we went our separate ways. In 4th period, I knocked on Marie's desk like I usually do now as I walk past it but she didn't look up. I nodded my head because she had stopped looking up at me after the fight with Eric but I can't quit hoping that one day she will look up again.
The rest of the week went by fast and before I knew it was time for the dance. Marie didn't come to the dance but Eric and them did. After the dance, I took Blair to the Pizza Shack. She asked me if I wanted to go on another date with her. I kissed her after that to just see if I felt anything for her but I didn't get the feeling I got when I kissed Marie with Blair. I broke the kiss then told her I thought we would be better off as friends. She nodded her head before saying it's because of Marie isn't it? I nodded my head and she nodded her head.
