Chapter 2 - Oh no, time to panic (altered)

This week, month. Has been weird. In plenty of different ways. My dad sent me a letter. Well, I think he did. I burned it though. And I don't remember what it said. I'm thinking of calling my grandmother. Because something I do remember is him mentioning that my grandmother told him where I was. But she's busy. She won't answer my calls. It's Saturday. I'm right now in the park I was talking about before. You know, the pretty pink water fountain separating the two buildings of the campus.

My biology teacher stupidly gave me homework. So I was doing that and trying to pass time. Just on my laptop. I was on a zoom call with my best friend Aaliyah. I had to split apart from her because we didn't get into the same college. My father got brought up in a conversation. But thankfully my phone rang so I had to leave the call. It was my grandmother. "Hey Rosette sorry for not answering before. How's college going?" I clear my throat. "Did my dad ask you where I was?" she's quiet. "Rosette. Don't be mad."

I gasp. "Claudia. He could kill me!" I rage. "I know sweetie I'm sorry. I'm not a good liar you should know this.", "Don't try making this situation about yourself Claudia. He sent me a letter. He found me and I don't have much time to live." she sounded very disappointed and upset with herself. "Okay, I'm being harsh. I'm sorry. But you shouldn't have told him anything.", "I know. I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry. I know I've messed up big time." she then gasps, "Why don't you just get a restraining order against him?"

I nod implying that her idea was genius. "That's great. Except every time, I think of or see him, I go into full panic mode. I don't think I'd survive in a room with him.", "Rose there will be police and guards there to protect you." I hum. "I've been seeing him. Like hallucinations.", "Nightmares. I'm petrified. He has traumatized me to the point important scared to go near any male species." she laughs, and realises my joke. I smile. "Well, I've gotta go.", "Okay. Stay safe. Call me if you need anything."

I start to pack my things away and walk towards the main building. "Okay. I will. Bye." I hang up and walk out of campus. I don't know where I was planning on going. But I might just go on a short walk. Explore the wonders of Phoenix. I see a park. And what a coincidence. A group of girls from my English class. We exchange 'hello's' and smiles every once and a while. They notice me and wave me over. I'm shocked someone would want to hang out with me. I smile and walk over to them. "Rosette right?" I smile and nod.

"I love your name so much. It's gorgeous." one mentions. "Aw, thank you." she smiles. "Geneviève. But everyone calls me Gigi." I smile. "You should know my name already. Biology, English, and History?" I nod, "Alexis right?" she puts two thumbs up. "Tessa." the other girl shyly replies. I smile. "So. Where are you from, Rosette?" we start to walk around the park, "Florida. Jacksonville." Tessa gasps. "I was born there." I smile. "I shortly moved though." I nod. "Where'd you move to?" she looks at me. "I moved to France." I gasp.

"I've always wanted to go to France." she laughs. We sit in a coffee shop for a little while. After talking for a while we all go to the garden I'm obsessed with. We sit there and talk for about 3 minutes. Until I'm suddenly alarmed by pulling the of my coat. I jump. The girls look at me. "Hey, I think I'm gonna head back to my dorm room. It's getting late and I'm exhausted." they smile and nod. "Okay." I wave and rush over to the door entry for the dorm building. I start to run around trying to find the stairs. Until a door opens.

I hear its squeaky noise echo throughout the building. My heart races. The door just pushed viciously and a loud slam is also echoing through the walls. I hear a pair of loud boots. Slowly. Carefully. Painfully. Walking in my direction. "Rosie darling..." I hear. I feel like it's the voice in my head. There must be two voices. One telling me that he's here. The other telling me to run for my fucking life. I'm looking at my best and worst escape routes. The window. It's good because a, it's in front of me, b.

It's the back of the building so I could run around the campus and run...somewhere, anywhere. But the bad things are a, I could die, b, I could still die, and c if I don't die I'll have to pay for the damage of the class then I'd most definitely get kicked out. The footsteps stopped which scared me. Although I can feel someone intensely breathing on me. I steady my slow shaky breaths. And slowly turn my body. I refuse to look straight at the person. So all I'm greeted with is a tall man in black boots and black army pants.

I know who it is. And I don't stop and think for a second. My head, slowly moves up toward the man's face. My eyes are in full panic and terror. "Hello. Daughter." I drop my breath and trip to the ground.

Faint.
