Chapter 3 - Dead deer

The next morning, Alex woke up feeling a little better. His leg was still sore, but the pain had subsided somewhat. He decided to take a walk in the jungle, hoping to find some more food or perhaps even a clue as to where his friends might be.

As he hobbled through the thick underbrush, Alex kept his eyes peeled for any signs of life. He heard the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the wind, but nothing else. He began to feel discouraged, wondering if he would ever find his friends or make it out of the jungle alive.

Suddenly, a loud thud echoed through the trees. Alex jumped, startled by the sudden noise. He looked around, trying to pinpoint the source of the sound.

After a few moments, he saw movement up ahead. He limped forward, his heart pounding with anticipation. As he got closer, he saw a large deer lying on the ground, its eyes staring up at the sky.

Alex approached cautiously, not wanting to startle any predators that might be lurking nearby. He saw that the deer had a large wound on its side, and he realized that it must have been attacked by a predator and then fallen to its death.

Alex approached the deer, his curiosity getting the better of him. He wanted to take a closer look at the animal, to see if there were any clues as to what had happened to it. As he got closer, he saw that the deer was lying on top of a patch of leaves.

He knelt down beside the deer and lifted the leaves. Suddenly, he felt the ground give way beneath him. He let out a shout as he fell into a hole, and the deer fell in with him.

Alex landed on his back, the wind knocked out of him. He groaned and sat up, rubbing his sore backside. He looked around and saw that he was in a man-made pit trap, with sharp wooden stakes lining the sides.

He shook his head in disbelief. "Of all the rotten luck," he muttered to himself. "First I get kidnapped by some mysterious men, and now I fall into a damn pit trap."

He looked up at the sky, hoping to see some way out of his predicament. But the pit was deep and the walls were too steep for him to climb. He was trapped.

He sighed and turned his attention to the deer. It was lying next to him, its eyes wide open and staring up at him. Alex shook his head. "Sorry about this, buddy," he said to the dead animal. "Looks like we're in this together."

He tried to think of a way out, but his mind was blank. He was too sore and too tired to think straight.

Alex couldn't believe his luck. First, he and his friends were abducted by mysterious men in a flying craft, and now he found himself trapped in a pit with a dead deer for company. He shook his head, feeling like the universe was playing a cruel joke on him.

"Well, I guess I should have stayed in bed this morning," he said to the deer, trying to make light of the situation. "But no, I had to go out for a walk and find myself in a pit trap. What's next? A visit from a pack of hungry wolves?"

He chuckled to himself, imagining a pack of wolves circling the pit, their eyes glowing in the darkness. "At least I have you for company," he said to the deer, patting it on the head. "Not much of a conversationalist, but I'll take what I can get."

He sat there for a while, feeling sorry for himself. But then he realized that feeling sorry wasn't going to get him out of the pit. He needed to come up with a plan.

He looked around the pit, searching for anything he could use to climb out. But there was nothing. The walls were too smooth, and the stakes were too sharp. He was stuck.

He sighed and leaned back against the wall again. "Well, I guess this is it," he said to the deer. "The end of the road for old Alex. Trapped in a pit with a dead deer. Not exactly the legacy I was hoping for."

But then he shook his head. "No, I'm not going down like this," he said, determination in his voice. "I'm not going to let some pit trap and a dead deer get the best of me. I'm going to find a way out of here, and I'm going to do it with style."

He stood up, his broken leg protesting. But he ignored the pain and started pacing around the pit, looking for any weak spots. He was going to get out of this trap, no matter what it took.

Alex searched around the pit for a way out but found nothing that could be of any help. He started pacing again and then suddenly he had an idea. He walked over to the dead deer and pushed it towards the wall of the pit. He tried to climb on it to reach the top of the pit but he couldn't get a grip on the slippery skin. He tried several times but failed.

He then started to jump on the deer's body to see if he could gain enough height to reach the top of the pit. The deer's body was soft and didn't provide enough traction, so Alex fell back down every time he tried to jump.

After several failed attempts, Alex sat back down, panting and sweating. He looked at the dead deer and said, "I'm sorry, buddy. I didn't mean to use you like this. I know you're not just a stepping stone, you're a beautiful creature that deserved better than this."

Alex felt ashamed of himself. He knew that he was behaving irrationally and that he needed to calm down and think rationally. He took a few deep breaths and started to think of a better way to escape.
