My mom use to tell me stories about how everything use to be before everything changed. Before the council was started to keep peace between the humans, wolves, vampires, and witches/wizards. New territory lines were drawn and what use to be Seattle, Washington was still called that but it was now bigger plus split into a lot of different sections. There were sections where everyone lived together but most people kept to their own kind and their own territories. New rules were created and the council is in control of pretty much everything. Everyone was also made to register if they were a wolf, vampire, or witch/wizard so they could keep track of everyone. There was a lot of backlash to that but in the end everyone did it. My mom said 10 years before I was born, they started what was called the Selection Process. Pretty much what it meant was every girl that was 17 and older had to put their name into a drawing and if their name was picked by a wolf, vampire, witch/wizard, or even a human they had to marry that person or as the wolves etc. call the girls their mates. Sure, there was ways to get around not being registered or putting her name in the Selection Process but if the council figured it out, the punishment was severe. Power suppressants, wolf suppressants, or vampire suppressants were sold on the black market and if you got caught with them the punishment was severe too. To try to make it hard for the girls that are 17 or older from not putting their name in once kids got to be in high school, they went to the same school (Jefferson Davis Academy). The Selection Process always takes place one week before school starts back and usually the girl has to leave her world behind to go live wherever the guy lives at if she is chosen. Whether she has contact with her family or anyone else from her pervious territory is up to the guy's family. Also part of the Selection Process, the girls and guys have to give a blood sample something about it helps in the process and knowing that the couple is 100% compatible or mates. My name is Joy Chambers and I am 17 years old plus will be a senior this year at Jefferson Davis Academy. Oh and I am a human plus 5'9 with dark brown hair that stops at my shoulders with light brown eyes and I weigh around 195.
July 28th, 2031 (Monday)
Joy's POV
I overslept and didn't wake up until almost 9:30 because I didn't hear my alarm clock go off. I quickly got dressed and when I walked out of my room, I heard more voices than usually in the house. I looked towards Joanna's room (she is my sister who is 14 almost 15) to see her door was open so she was already awake and so was her twin brother John. I walk down the stairs and noticed the voices were coming from the dining room. I could make out my parents voices plus three other voices (two more adults; one female and one male; then a male that sounded younger probably around my age). When I got downstairs, I saw Joanna and John sitting where I could see them at the dining room table. They were both sitting up very straight with their hands in their laps which is very unlike them so I knew our guests must be important.
"More food Councilman Williams?" Our maid Heather asked.
I stopped where I was because Councilman Williams is a werewolf but he married a vampire. Their kid is Isaac Williams is a hybrid. Half vampire half wolf and very much feared in any territory because he has a temper that he doesn't know how to control. Contrary to what most people think, vampires can go out in the daytime thanks to modern medicine and as long as they have that medicine, they are good. Isaac being half vampire has to take that medicine. He is tall at 6'6 and he weighs maybe 250 but he is mostly muscles. He has short black hair and bluish grey eyes that some people think if you stare into them for too long he can hypnotize you. He plays football and is the kicker. He is 18 and just graduated but signed on to play for Washington Community College (they have a location in Seattle now since we have a big population here). He is the only half vampire half wolf that anyone around here knows and most people especially humans think vampires and wolves should have never been allowed to mix together because they are both dangerous on their own but put them together and they have an offspring that is even more dangerous than his or her parents.
"No thank you, I'm good. Miriam and Isaac?" Councilman Williams (first name Samuel) asked.
"I'll starve." Isaac said.
"Watch your tone we are guests here." Miriam (Mrs. Williams) said in a mad voice.
"I'll take more coffee." Miriam said.
"Right away." Heather said.
"Heather, when you are done please go wake up Joy." My dad said.
"She is awake sir." Heather said (she is half wolf/half human so she can always smell us).
I shook my head before walking into the dining room as Heather was walking into the kitchen.
"Sorry dad, I overslept. I'll grab something to eat at Zoey's (my best friend and she is a witch) because I promised her I would go shopping with her." I said before grabbing an apple off of the table as everyone looked at me.
"Sit down Joy Carla (yes I know it doesn't go together but it was my grandmother's name on my mom's side that I never met and I was named after her)." My dad said as I turned to walk towards the front door.
"Dad, I made a promise. Do you really want me to break that promise?" I asked turning to face him.
"Let her go Dillion (my dad's name); there will be time later." My mom said putting her hand on his left arm.
"No there will not be. Vampire customs when it comes to mates are different. It has to be today." Miriam said.
I felt all the color drain from my face and everything went dark. The next thing I knew, I was waking up on the couch with my mom on the floor beside the couch and Councilman Williams plus Isaac wasn't far behind my mom looking at me.
"My wife can be very blunt sometimes Miss. Chambers." Councilman Williams said when he saw I was awake.
"How are you feeling?" My mom asked running her right hand through my long dark brown hair.
"Tell me this is a dream." I whispered.
"Believe me, I wish it was too. A human as a mate when I'm a feared hybrid." Isaac said giving me a look.
"Son." Councilman Williams said giving Isaac a look.
"Look, I have football practice I need to get to so can Joy and me please have some alone time?" Isaac asked in an impatient voice.
"Where's your room?" He asked looking at me when no one said anything.
I pointed upstairs. He shook his head before lifting me up off of the couch like I weighed nothing instead of the 195 I weigh. He walked upstairs then I pointed to my room and he walked towards that room. He put me down inside then closed and locked the door behind us.
I slowly backed away from him and he shook his head.
"Baby girl, I'm a hybrid. I'm fast." He said when he was quickly in front of me again.
I bumped back into my desk and he quickly put his arms on both sides of the desk to box me in.
"You don't need to fear me. I can't hurt my mate." He said as he raised his right hand then pushed my hair away from the left side of my neck.
I gulped and he followed the movement of my throat with his eyes before looking at my neck particular at the spot where you can feel my pulse at the strongest.
"It won't hurt but I don't have time to ease you into this so if you want to scream or feel like you need to then do it." He said.
I gave him a look because I wasn't sure what he meant then before I knew it his face wasn't in front of me and he was biting my neck at the spot where my pulse was the strongest. I wanted to scream and even opened my mouth to do so but no sound came out. It seemed like it lasted a long time but it probably didn't before I felt his tongue lick the spot then his face appeared back in front of mine. I saw my blood around his mouth and he wiped it away with the back of his left hand.
"My parents will help you move your things." He said then he disappeared.
I felt of my neck and though it wasn't sore or didn't hurt, I could feel two marks on my neck which I knew was his long vampire front teeth that doesn't always show.
I begged Councilman Williams to let me stay at my parents' house for the rest of the week until school started and he said I could but once school started next week, he would be back with two of his men to collect my things and me. That night I found it hard to fall asleep because of everything that happened but I did eventually fall asleep.
