"You must be kidding," Kylie said after she recovered from her shock. "Wait... are you drunk?" She leaned slightly towards Nathan to sniff out the scent of alcohol from his body.
"I'm not joking and I'm not drunk," Nathan replied patiently. "Please don't make excuses so you don't have to listen to me."
"I am listening to you," Kylie snapped. "Just listening, right? No need to answer?"
"I didn't ask. What I just said was just me pouring my heart out."
"Good," said Kylie. "And I heard it."
Nathan froze and stared at her in despair. "Is that your only response? I tell you I'm in love with you, and you just sit there looking at me and say you heard. Is that it?"
"Yeah," Kylie frowned. "What did you expect me to do? Cheer? Cry tears of joy?"
"Kylie...."
