When she returned to Saco, Bella was drowning in sadness. Even Reef was unable to console her. Every morning, Reef woke up a lackluster Bella, persuaded her to go to the kitchen, and then he made a delicious and filling breakfast for the two of them. Most of the time, when Reef was in the office, Bella spent her time daydreaming in front of her laptop, not writing anything. Reef soon realized this and asked Mariel, Brenda and Kylie to help him bring back Bella's joy.
"I can't stop thinking that all of this is my fault," Bella told Mariel who visited her at the end of the week. "I should have been the one shot, not Carter. He didn't deserve to die for me, the wife who divorced him and never loved him. I was a very cruel person, Mariel."
"No one thinks you're cruel, Bel," Mariel said. "Where do such thoughts come from in your head? We can't force our feelings, they just happen. Carter has also realized that and agreed to divorce."
