Bella almost forgot about the threats directed at her and her lawyer because during her time in the city, her focus was divided. She even thought about her father, whom she hadn't contacted since the day she returned to the city. She was also grateful that her father hadn't tried to contact her, even though it seemed strange that a fussy, authoritarian old man would be silent like that. Bella was already determined to ignore it if her father suddenly showed up and interfered. In fact, her father pretended not to know.
They returned to Saco on an early morning flight. Nathan called Bella before they boarded and apologized for not being able to take them both to the airport. "I have to lead an internal meeting this morning, would you guys be okay if I didn't drive you?"
Bella laughed. "Try asking Kylie that."
"She'll say fine."
