Chapter 23 - 23) Curse of Loneliness

"Another new weapon? You're building your own cursed arsenal without having to carry any more than one tool. How convenient."

Nanami and Furōkawa sat at a large circular table, eating their respective breakfast together. Nanami had a rather large croissant along with a side of eggs and bacon. Furōkawa had a bowl full of yogurt and oats.

"Yeah, it seems like everytime I exorcise a valk, they drop some type of artifact that has cursed energy and it gets absorbed through my ring. And I guess Onamazu reacts to that new cursed energy as well."

"You have a spear correct?"

"Ya, why?"

"Why can't Onamazu turn into that?"

"That's a… great question.. I think it's because Onamazu itself is a physical object separate from my energy. The spears are completely made anew through my ring, which acts as the medium. That's why they only come out of right hand."

Nanami stopped eating his food and set the utensils on the napkin gently, and steadily rose up out of his chair.

"Time to go."

Furōkawa devoured his bowl of yogurt and oats and immediately caught up to Nanami, leaving a his spoon inside the bowl and the napkin unused. They walked to the lobby where Emilia and her subordinates stood in a single file line silently.

"Are you two ready to go?"

Both Nanami & Furōkawa readied themselves and stepped out the building, only to be greeted by the legend in the flesh.

"Gojo!"

"Gojo…" Nanami's face sunk into his skull.

"Yo!"

Furōkawa ran up to Gojo to give him a double high-five.

But something strange happened between their instinctive cursed techniques.

The moment Gojo and Furōkawa's hands came into contact, Infinity broke down like water coming into contact with cotton candy.

Gojo immediately pulled his hand back and watched it as the barrier of Infinity began to reform itself again.

"Oh..um.. sorry?" Furōkawa slightly backed up with a bead of sweat rolling down his face.

"Did you know you could do that?" Gojo asked.

"Do what..?"

"The fundamental building blocks of cursed energy, the base of my technique. Your 'caustic sea' quite literally burned it away and got rid of my barrier."

Nanami shot a face of bewilderment and looked at Furōkawa out the side of his spectacles.

"I thought you said I would never be able to penetrate Infinity?"

"Well, to be completely honest with you, I was bluffing. The second time you unintentionally blew up yourself, I narrowly avoided what would have melted right through infinity and cooked me. Nothing I couldn't heal from though."

The 3 looked at each other until Emilia walked out from behind the tall mahogany doors. Then she stood still, looking at Gojo.

"Who invited this fool!!" Emilia yelled at him.

Gojo shrugged and pointed at Furōkawa. "I just wanted to visit my students before shit hit the fan. I saw Yuta a little while ago looking for a handy little tool. He's alright by the way, a lot stronger too."

"Also, sorry to inform ya Nanami, but I need you back in Japan for one of my new students in particular."

He sighed and walked off towards Gojo, who seemed too care-free for Furōkawa's comfort.

"Wait hold on! The extra assistance is very necessary on these exorcisms. I don't know if I could do it alone."

"You've grown a lot in strength, and the only thing else I could provide you with is how to straighten your back. But seriously, you have my full confidence that you can definitely face these valkyries and exorcise them. Best luck onto you."

Furōkawa gripped the strap of his bag carrying Onamazu, and felt an overwhelming sense of sadness overcome him. Nanami bowed to Furōkawa and turned around, where Gojo stood facing both of them. He walked slowly to the tall blindfolded man.

"Wait!!"

Nanami turned around quickly. "What is it?"

Furōkawa reached out his hand to Nanami and made sure that his technique was completely off.

"Next time we see each other, I'll be a special grade sorcerer with all types of cool things to show you!"

Nanami smiled softly, and took his hand to shake it.

"I can't wait."

They held each other's hands tightly for a moment and let go. Gojo grabbed onto Nanami's shoulder and they both vanished into thin air. Furōkawa looked into the air while the clouds moved together gently.

"Guess I'm on my own now.." Furōkawa walked to the backseat of the car he and Nanami was supposed to ride in to the next valkyrie site.

"Worry not Furōkawa, my sisters and I will be here to assist you through all the valkyries exorcisms." Emilia patted Furōkawa on the back and opened the door for him.

"Thanks.."

Furōkawa sat in the black car and it drove off into the distance.

"I hope he's okay."
