"Tell me you aren't glad I came to wake you up this morning, like I always do," Kyle said with a smile as the two boys walked into the school. Students were moving around and getting ready for the start of a new week, so the hallway was busy.
"I'm not glad you woke me up this morning," Jeremy said again and again. "Hey!" Kyle pretended to be annoyed and turned to him. "What? You said I should say it," Jeremy said with a smile. "But you didn't, because I was already awake before you decided to go all out on my window glass. Shiela made sure of that."
"Why is that hard for me to believe?" Kyle asked his friend. Jeremy replied, "Because you're Kyle Blake." "There are a lot of things you find hard to believe." "Well, you got me there. The two boys walked by a group of nerds who were talking excitedly about something science-related by a locker. "Well, that takes weird to a whole new level!" Kyle flinched. "Hey, don't be mean!" Jeremy elbowed his friend and laughed. "Just because you're different from someone else doesn't mean you have to judge their personality."
"What? That's just too weird. I don't see the fun in dressing like it's the 1990s, with an office shirt tucked into ironed pants and glasses the size of goggles, Kyle said. "Hey, as long as they're not hurting anyone, we don't need to worry about them," Jeremy said. "Besides, you're starting to sound like someone we know and hate...I mean dislike."
Kyle gave his friend a sudden, dark look as he turned to him "Don't even try to compare me to that jerk. I'm nothing like him "He barked.
Jeremy put up his hand and said, "Easy, man." "I never would do that. I just want to say something here. I won't hurt you. You already know "Kyle got a little happier. "Yeah, I know that," he said with a soft smile. "It's just that just thinking about that guy makes me crazy." "I can't say I'd blame you. We've both had bad things happen to us because of him "He gave an eye roll.
They went to their lockers, which were next to each other by chance, opened them, and took their books out "So, have you thought about trying out for football yet? "Kyle asked.
"Is that still the case? "Jeremy groaned and took a big book out of his backpack. He put it in his locker and said, "I told you I'd rather just watch."
"Right. I might as well give you pom-poms and a shirt with a "J" on it. Then you can cheer for me as I cross the goal line "Kyle couldn't stop laughing, so he held on to his friend for support.
Jeremy laughed out loud and swatted his friend's hand away "Highly amusing. Why did you even decide to try out for football? I thought you hated sports that were very physical? "
"I don't know, man," said Kyle, separating a clump of loose blonde hair on his forehead and putting it in the back "I've been doing really well lately. You know, like I have the power to be happy inside me. I also have the feeling that I can do anything. As if I could run the whole world "He was happy.
"You had me from the start, and you made sense," Jeremy said with a smile. He frowned. "...Until you ruined it with your last sentence."
Kyle laughed in response, and the two boys went back to unpacking, but they stopped when they heard a faint set of footsteps next to them and a familiar woman's voice.
"Hey, Kyle!" Jeremy groaned and covered his head with the hood of his sweater as the two boys turned around. Facing the boys were a group of cheerleaders in matching pink outfits. Their captain, who called out to Kyle, stood out from the rest with straight blonde hair, sparkling green eyes, a pointed nose, and thick pink lips all on a heart-shaped face. Her shapely body was balanced well on well-defined legs. "Oh, hey, Lucy," Kyle said to her.
"I was just walking by with the girls, and we couldn't help but hear you say you want to try out for football." She smiled as the girls behind her laughed. Kyle crossed his arms and said, "Yeah, I said it." "Is there something wrong with that? "
"No. She shook her head. "Not at all. I just wanted to wish you luck." We need to see someone different. Like, something different."
Kyle and Jeremy looked at each other confusedly and then back to the girls. "Anyway, good luck," Lucy said, and then she turned to her friends and said, "Come on, girls." The cheerleaders walked away, and Jeremy sighed. Lucy never even spoke to him. Not even a look was given his way. It was like he was invincible.
Jeremy looked at his friend and wondered what Lucy saw in him. Both boys were skinny, but Kyle had a bit more muscle definition than Jeremy. He had a strange feeling. Could that be what Lucy saw in him? "Do you see? "Kyle interrupted him. "That's what happens when you decide to try out. Girls are interested in you." "What do you want to say? "
"You've always had Lucy's attention since the beginning of time," Jeremy said, staring at him blankly. "Well..." Kyle began.
He never got past that word because he was knocked over by a sudden force. His head hit the open door of his locker and he staggered a bit as he turned around to face the intruder. Jeremy's face turned pale with fear as the two boys stood face to face with a group of tall, muscular boys.
A group of teens in school football jackets looked at the boys with evil glee. The one who had knocked Kyle down had the most evil grin, and his curly, fiery red hair, grey eyes, and crooked nose added to his bad attitude. "Hank," Kyle growled silently. Jeremy stayed close to Kyle and kept a wary eye on the group "So, shrimp. Hank grinned wickedly and asked, "I hear you want to try out for football. As what?" The one who brings water or a mascot? "
When he said that, the jocks laughed out loud. Jeremy pulled on Kyle's hand to get them to leave, but Kyle, to everyone's surprise, stood his ground. "No, as a player," Kyle said again. "You heard right." "Shrimp, do you want to die?
"Hank's smile disappeared. "You really want to take that risk? There's no place for people with frames like yours. I mean, come on, there's a reason I call you shrimp. " Hank looked at Jeremy, who turned pale.
Hank said, "It's good that your shrimp-in-arms understands, because I didn't hear him say the same thing." The boys laughed some more. Kyle made his fists as tight as he could. When Jeremy saw this, he pulled his friend again right away. He said in a whisper, "Come on, man." "Let's leave. It's not worth it." Kyle told him, "No," which surprised him. Then he looked at Hank. He told the red head, "I'll say it again," out loud. "I'm going to be a player on the football team."
Hank turned to his friends and said, "Wow." "He means what he says.
He then turned back to Kyle. Kyle didn't move when he saw the bigger guy's angry look. "I hope you'll make an appointment with the nurse," Hank whispered in a dark voice "Because you will go see her on your first day of training. Piece..by..piece." Hank quickly stepped back and called to his friends, "Come on, guys! Let's go train on how to break bones."
As the jocks left, laughter could be heard in the hallway. Jeremy held his chest to slow his heartbeat and then turned to Kyle. Kyle didn't show any fear, but he did show something Jeremy hadn't seen in a while.
