Hearing his words, Vivian also paused in her footsteps, with their backs facing each other. "I was the one that made her go through that... I had to take responsibility, " She replied softly and bit her lips while sighing inside.
After hearing from the doctors that the girl had slipped into a coma because of her repressed memories, she had thought back to the day he had sent her out of the mansion when he found out about the voice conning and she had deduced that it all happened at that time, after remembering that the girl did not even recognize her that night, inside the hotel's washroom.
"I'm so sorry," She whispered with a sniff, then wiped the tear that had already trickled down her face and she continued walking toward the stairs.
Carl glanced back at her and sighed inside after watching her walked down the stairs. He slowly turned back and continued walking toward the room at the farthest end of the hallway.
After reaching the door, he turned the doorknob then carefully pushed it open before walking inside the room and his gaze landed on the girl who was lying peacefully on the huge bed.
She was now changed into a new set of clothes and his gaze lingered on her for some seconds before he closed the door then slowly walked forward and then sat down on the side of the bed.
"Clara..." He softly called out and extended his hand then carefully took her palm in his hands.
"I'm so sorry... I couldn't protect you... Please forgive me... " He softly started with a sigh while he slowly stroked her palm as his gaze lingered on her calm face.
"Everything is over now... Please don't give up okay?... I miss you... I miss you so much, everyone misses you...Your babies, they both miss you" He paused with another sigh, now caressing her long silky hair that was spread on the pillow as he thought back to the kids that had grown very much attached to her.
He could remember the look on their mother's face when he went back to the estate to pack her things after the incident and his heart ached painfully whenever he thought back to how the kids had cried and had wanted to follow him while constantly asking about their mummy.
He kept stroking her hair carefully while gazing down at her sadly with a distant look in his eyes, then he continued softly. "Your parents, your sister and everyone, including me... we all thought that you were dead... Please don't let us go through the same pain again..., Okay?" he muttered after a while, his voice now in a whisper... "I love you, Clara, I'll always do... Please don't leave me again."
He clasped her hand in both palms and slowly kissed it after caressing them on his face while his gaze was still fixed on her flawless face and he finally lowered his head then placed a soft lingering kiss on her forehead.
"Please don't leave me again... Stay with me," his voice was now barely audible and you could also notice his shoulders trembling slightly.
A long time passed by and he was still in that position. The sun had already come up and was very high in the sky outside the only window in the room whose curtains were drawn apart.
The sunlight was shielded by the large flower tree which stood just outside the window and the beautiful scent of flowers from the tree engulfed the whole room while giving off a peaceful feeling, a total contrast to the grim atmosphere around the guy who was silently sitting on the bedside and staring down at the girl.
A few hours passed by before the door was slowly pushed open from outside, then entered the old woman and she sighed heavily while watching her grandson whose head was still hanging low, as he held on to the girl's hand.
"Baby boy..." She walked toward him and slightly patted his shoulder then glanced at the girl with another sigh before saying, "It is lunchtime already, you need to eat, okay?"
Carl slowly looked up and slightly rubbed his eyes. "Okay." He nodded slowly, then turned his attention to the girl and carefully placed her hand back on top of the other one which was placed on her stomach.
Seeing the boy's red eyes after he looked up, the old woman sighed again then patted his shoulder and quickly turned back before hurrying out of the room while wiping the tear that had trickled down her face.
After the door was closed, Carl gazed at the girl's face for some time, while caressing it gently then he slowly leaned forward and placed another soft kiss on her forehead.
Standing up from the bed, his eyes slowly wandered around the room and a sad smile crept up on his face, seeing that all his mother's pictures were still there, together with some of his and his brother's photos when they were still little.
He slowly walked forward and picked up one of the photos from the glass cabinet which was beside the vanity mirror, then he stared down at the beautiful woman who was smiling widely at the camera. "I miss you so much, Mama."
He slowly caressed the photo for a while as the memories with his late mother came flooding back his senses. Because even though he was still little when she died, he could clearly remember those happy memories. He chuckled sadly after a while, before putting the frame back on the glass cabinet.
Turning his attention back to the bed again, he sighed heavily then slowly walked out of the room, toward the stairs, and down to the living room in unhurried footsteps.
He walked toward the dining area while his gaze wandered around the place which had not changed for a bit with only the furnitures now changed to modern ones.
After reaching the dining area, his grandparents were already there and plates of foods were already spread on the table. with his grandfather sitting on the head chair while his grandmother sat on his right with Vivian sitting beside her.
