Chapter 257 - CHAPTER 257: IT'S TOO LATE (1)

Their surprised gazes were fixed on the crumbled building which was now engulfed in smokes.

And the policemen cursed with dark expressions, seeing that they couldn't possibly find any evidence as even a needle could not be retrieved from the crumbled building. They realized that it is too late after finally locating this hideout.

They all sighed heavily, and after spotting the few masked men who were attempting to run away, they instantly arrested them into their cars.

Meanwhile, the men from the basement together with the other group of men slowly walked toward their boss and by then, Zach had already helped the nurses take his brother to one of the ambulances and watched in a daze as the car drove.

The whole place sank into silence, with only the slight sobbing of the girl who was still kneeling on the ground, as the only sounds resonating in the vast place.

Zach glanced at the building once more with a heavy sigh and looked up at the sky which had already turned dark with the moon as the only source of light in the place. His eyes tinged and he swallowed deeply while clenching his fists.

Turning to the men that were already standing at his back with their heads lowered, he heavily sighed again. "Make sure you search around this place early in the morning," He commanded weakly then quickly turned his back to them as his eyes tinged again.

The men also sighed, then slowly nodded after giving a weak reply. They glanced at the destroyed building and slowly shook their heads with another sigh, knowing that it would be a miracle, to even find a bone in that place.

With heavy hearts, they all dragged their legs out of the place after glancing at their boss whose back was now facing them and they could also notice his hands trembling violently.

After the men had all left, Zach moved away from the spot and slowly walked toward Mira whose sobs had now turned into whimpers.

Kneeling down beside her, he hugged her tightly then felt her wrapped her arms around him.

"Zach... Clara..." Mira sobbed helplessly and also hugged him tightly. This is all a dream, right? She would wake up soon__ nothing had happened to her friend__ they were just talking on the phone a while ago.

She sobbed loudly and felt the guy stroking her back.

"It's okay, stop crying," Zach whispered with another heavy sigh as he also sniffed.

"Let's go home." He scooped her up in his arms after some seconds then stood up and started dragging his legs toward the car.

Mira buried her head in his chest while her arms were still wrapped around him. "Clara..." She cried weakly then shut her eyes tightly and after some minutes, felt him dropped her inside the car.

Zach gave the crumbled building which is now in ashes a last glance, then sighed heavily and walked to the other side of the car before driving off.

The whole place had now sunk into deep silence as the car zoomed out of the dilapidated town and the surges of blood on the ground, with the small smokes rising from the destroyed building, were the only signs that an intense battle had taken place in this vast area.

                     ********

          __ Two Days Later __

Inside a hospital VIP ward, the place was eerily quiet with only the small sounds coming from the beeping machines that were at the sides of the bed and the slight sobbing of a woman which could be heard inside the room now and then.

Sitting on the chair that was facing the huge bed in the ward was a middle-aged woman and her slight sobs continued as she held on to the guy's hand whose eyes were closed and was lying peacefully on the bed.

"Mum..." Zach softly called out with a sigh, while sitting on the couch as he silently watched his brother who had not regained consciousness. He stood up with another sigh, then slowly walked toward his stepmother and slightly patted her back.

"It's okay Mum, stop crying..." He said in a whisper and carefully helped her up from the chair, afraid that her cries would disturb his brother, as the doctor had said since yesterday that he might regain consciousness anytime soon.

The woman tightly held his arm for support as more tears rushed down her face while glancing back at her son on the bed.

After sitting down on the couch, Zach started wiping her tears then heard her said,

"Son... Are you sure the men had searched very well? Are you sure that they couldn't find them," She inquired in a hoarse voice, hoping that he wouldn't give her the same answer. However, she also knew that it would be impossible to retrieve even an object from the place, talk more of a human remains.

She couldn't believe that all along, it had been her brother that was threatening her family's life. How foolish she was to not have realized it from the beginning when he had constantly been bugging her about the information of her husband's organization after convincing her to marry him. However, she couldn't tell him anything, knowing that it was a secret.

Thinking back to her father whose illness have intensified after hearing the news, she broke into another bout of sobs and tightened her grip on his clothes. "Poor girls."

"Mum..." Zach sighed heavily then wrapped her in a hug. "Stop crying, Mum... Please... you'll fall sick if you don't stop," he said in a hoarse voice while patting her back gently.

After some seconds, he slowly looked sideways at the door which had just opened and watched as his father walked inside with Lucy and Mira silently trailing behind him with puffy eyes.

He stood up from the couch then walked toward the chair and sat down facing his brother while the middle-aged man walked toward his wife and sat down beside her.

Mira and Lucy also sat down silently on another couch, as they both sniffed softly while their gazes were fixed on the hospital's bed.
