Peace never lasts forever. After the war against Raksa , two hundred years were peaceful on the continent. The cities have been rebuilt and the population has increased significantly. Wounds after the devastating war have healed. The birth of mages accelerated Maji's civilization. Mages who did not fight Raksa, focused on researching new forms of magic and creating various magical items and spells to make Maji's life easier.
The key to their development was the invention of a way to store mana in object and combination of spells that made it possible for non-mages to use these inventions. The first spell checked mana level of item's user, and after crossing limit set by creator, it triggered a second spell that took mana to use item. When the crystal used to store magical energy was filled, mechanism to start an object could be activated.
The rulers of the territories, where the mages' towers stood, reached an agreement with their inhabitants and in exchange for the provision of appropriate materials, as well as remuneration for the creating items mages. Thanks to this solution, there has been mass production across the continent, thanks to which magical items have become widely available.
"Magical Revolution", such a term was adopted for the situation that occurred after the distribution of magical items for everyone. There was an incredible economic development of all territories. The standard of living has skyrocketed. Much of the work was streamlined, and some of Maji's involvement could be redirected to other areas of life. Literature, art and other branches of culture flourished during this period.
Religion was not an important part of Maji's daily life. There were minor cults practicing the primordial belief in the existence of deities. However, most of the inhabitants of Altea believed that the world was created from the accumulation of large quantities of mana, giving birth to the magic responsible for calling into existence the world and the beings that inhabit it.
Unfortunately, the positive economic situation was halted by the ambition and greed of some rulers. Nobody realized that the continent was a powder keg and one spark was enough to rekindle old conflicts. The wars between the territories began again. This time there was no such ruthlessness as before. The mass killing of members of other races has stopped. Such brutality could be compared to the massacres during war with Raksa, and economic development allowed for greater food production. That way, the leaders didn't have to kill the defeated to save food supplies. In return, other races were conquered. The conquered peoples became slaves or inferior inhabitants for the invading territory.
Over the next three hundred years of wars, there have been several major changes in the situation on the continent. The territories of the Aisens and Nords gained the upper hand over the lands inhabited by the Gruns and Dragonits. Long struggles led to the expulsion of these later races to the outskirts of the Tartus Mountains and the great western Divon Forests, respectively.
Only the mages remaining in the towers and performing their duties were not part of these conflicts. They lived as if away from the wars that were going on. They were fully focused on their duties and made sure that Raksa's numbers did not become a problem and were engaged in the production of magical items that became necessary for the economy and everyday life of the inhabitants of Altea. This approach made the leaders of the territories leave the mages in the towers to themselves. Additionally, they did not want to provoke their Maji, because the attack on the mages could be perceived as an attempt to disrupt the line of defense against Raksa, and could also cause magical items to cease being produced. This would lead to economic collapse and hunger. For this reason, almost all the mages joined the towers across the continent or armies of different territories. Mages joined the army mostly because they wanted to get rich from wars. Only a small number of them were forcibly incorporated, as mages who were reluctant to war had joined the towers much earlier. Ordinary Maji did not quite like the selfish approach of the mages who were in the army. So they started calling the mages within the towers maguses, and those who didn't join them magises.
The situation in which mages were either part of the defence against Raksa or the army meant that they were given a special status in Altea. When someone became a mage their race and social situation no longer mattered. Even slaves of a different race, upon discovering that they had the potential to become mages became free. Being a mage began to be a common dream for both those who wanted to help Maji in Altea and those who wanted to earn money from magical skills. Finally, there was also a group for whom only power mattered. All this led to a situation where rituals began to take place on the continent on Maji who did not have enough mana. The result could only be one - the death of the ritual participants. Mages and rulers initially disregarded these events, believing that stories of daredevils dying in agony would deter others from trying. Nothing could be further from the truth. Despite the lack of success, the phenomenon was gaining momentum. Everything was exacerbated by rumours of supposed new mages who succeeded in the ritual, although they did not have enough mana. Eventually, regardless of the ongoing conflicts, the rulers of all territories agreed that only mage towers could have knowledge of the rituals and perform them. Attempts to perform them themselves began to be severely punished. Eventually, the most reluctant understood the seriousness of the situation, although there were still isolated rituals outside the control of the mages. All this confusion lasted for more than 20 years, but eventually the danger was brought under control.
The space around the mage towers changed significantly as a result of the new wars. The area that was previously uninhabited began to fill up with Maji. This happened even though they were close to places with a lot of miasma. Civilians fleeing the war found refuge there from the attacking enemies. The Magus living in the towers in the territories engulfed by the fighting were often of the same race as the refugees in large numbers. This caused the Magus to took the arriving Maji under their protection and allow them to settle in their territories in exchange for taxes to be levied once life in the new settlements had been stabilised. The attacking rulers had to make reluctant concessions in such situations, so as not to cause discontent in their ranks if they decided to attack the mages' tower. The first new town to be established under such conditions was Barta. It was followed by others throughout Altea. Because of the previous era of wars, places with a lot of miasma were quite common, so the number of towers was around a thousand and new settlements were built at almost all of them. These cities looked like small copies of Arda, as representatives of different races could be found in them. In this way, the Maguses wanted to preserve the tradition of coexistence of all Maji that had taken place in Arda.
In this way, the Magus towers became cities that functioned independently within the different territories. The Magus had full independence within them, given to them in return for their dedication to fighting the Raksa. As a result, enclaves containing a city with a tower and nearby miasma zones were created across the continent.
The territories themselves also changed. From loose associations of Maji groups of the same race, with the exception of the Aisens and Nords communities, they developed into states with a social structure accommodating the different races. Different countries had one or two dominant races, while the rest were treated as inferior citizens or as slaves. Despite the development of magical objects, slave labour was still highly profitable and slavery was an important mainstay in the economies of countries. However, compared to the period before the 'Magic Revolution', the situation of slaves had improved considerably. They were no longer treated like vermin that could be trampled on at any time. They became valuable property, as they could be used to charge and operate magical items.
Most of the newly formed states were kingdoms, although there were exceptions. There were three republics: Pronsia, Raalo and Kuhtia.
Each of the races had states in which they were the dominant one. Korod, Pronsia, Bysororodia and Klaukmaa belonged to the Gruns. Bodrumya, Hajduragyoujia, Monyodvarnia, Tupintapia, Forskisakmaa, Lafumeghatonia were countries where the Dragonits were predominant. For the Aisens, they were Viohtari, Aemoria and Inzburg. Finally, Nords were majority in Momend, Tetonal and Acharmageia. The remaining states were various mixtures of Nords and Aisens in power. There were three powers on the continent that dominated their neighbours. These were: Viohtari, Acharmageia and Bazionia.
The formation of state structures on the continent made it necessary to raise the level of education of the people of Altea. Raalo was the first to introduce an organised education system. The authorities of the republic saw an opportunity for the enrichment of the whole country in the intersecting trade routes between Viohtari and Bazionia from one side along with Acharmageia and the northern countries on the other one. They wanted Raalo to become a place to exchange goods between the two caravans. This needed better skilled workers to support foreign and local merchants trading with each other. Improved education, laws to support trade and the resale of goods from faraway places to countries overlooked by these trade routes made the Republic of Raalo the richest state on the continent.
Relations between the states were always tense, even if no wars were being fought at any given time. It was a situation where overnight an ally could become your enemy and vice versa. There were many reasons for conflict, such as border deposits of various raw materials, a succession conflict at the neighbour's, the discovery of a spy or simply the whims or ambition of the rulers. In such an unstable situation, only three alliances proved durable: The Alliance of the Dragonits, the Union of the Gruns and the Alliance of Ardea. The first two alliances were only concerned with defence against attacks from the Aisens and the Nords. The Alliance of Ardea was a military and trade pact between the states of the Plains of Ardea, centred around Raalo. It was aimed at mutual defence and also facilitated the movement and trade of merchants, including by reducing customs duties. The Ardean alliance consisted of Raalo, Kuhtia, Ashavasharos, Sangeria and Mesabonia.
As the position of the three powers took shape, and the durability of the three alliances was tested, the political situation in Altea stabilised somewhat for the first time in three hundred years. There was relative peace in Altea. The ordinary Maji began to think that the situation had calmed down and the period of wars was over for the time being. They thought, they would finally be able to catch the breathe.
