Chapter 49 - An Enemy

"Ah, she's beautiful."

Yanmei's attention is quickly drawn to the guy with a big cigar in his mouth. Her face scrunched as she pinched the tip of her nose.

"Can you please throw that away?"

"What the, you still have the audacity to order me!?"

He yelled. Everyone in the room looks down on the ground, afraid to make eye contact with the guy's body.

Yanmei sneered, the top of her lips tugging as she looked at the guy up and down, judging his whole existence.

"Yes. Is there a problem?"

The guy hissed, his hand quickly throwing the cigaratte away before he walked towards her, holding her face with his hand.

"Of course! Don't you know me!? I am the Mafia God!"

He yelled, his eyes growing big as he squished her face. His action causes Roulan to boil in anger; her hand gently pushes the woman latching on to her before she stands up and walks towards them.

"Don't you dare walk any closer."

A man spoke behind her, a gun pointed at the back of her head. She heard the man cocked the gun.

Yanmei heard this, her head turning and her eyes quickly changing from a mocking expression into a murderous one.

"What the fuck!?"

She yelled, and her hand quickly grabbed the guy's hands that still held her face before she went and flipped him on the ground.

The people gasped in surprise; their eyes looked onto Yanmei, who single-handedly managed the man who's a lot bigger than her.

His men quickly went to her, pointing their guns at her as she scoffs and smirks.

"Is that what you all can do?"

She walks, and a few of the men that's near where she walks back away, causing her to be disappointed at their action.

"Losers."

The guy was knocked down because, as soon as Yanmei flipped him on the ground, she hit the back of his neck, causing him to faint.

Her aura changes; it's something the men knew they shouldn't mess with that causes them to back away.

What can they do?

Their boss has only a fraction of what her father has. He is only on the heels of his shoes!

They just couldn't understand why he even wants to run shoulders with the big boss when he can't even provoke his daughter.

"Drop the gun, or I'll drop you dead."

It wasn't even a question to begin with. Her eyes looked at the man behind Roulan.

The man knew not to mess with the daughter of the most dangerous mafia in the whole country, yet he seems to like the attention he's receiving.

He smirks, walking beside Roulan as he puts the gun on the side of her head. Yanmei's breathing got rigid; her hand balled as her knuckles turned white.

"Drop the gun."

"What if I don't?"

Before Yanmei could run towards them, Roulan had already gone and grabbed the gun on the side of her head. Her left hand held the tip, pointing it away from people, while her right hand grabbed the man's wrist, flipping him to the ground.

The man groans in the process and screams as Roulan twists his arms on his back before pointing back the gun on top of his head.

"This will happen."

Roula cocked the gun again, causing the man to panic.

"Wait! Wait! Someone just ordered us!"

Yanmei is shocked at what she saw; she couldn't believe it. Is it really Roulan?

But her eyes have a different emotion than what she always has.

The scared, almost like doing puppy eyes. Her eyes and gaze look more upset, almost like a wolf in the wild.

She quickly shakes her head, walking towards them, but stops as Roulan points the gun in her direction.

The taller woman glances before putting the gun at the back of the man's head, letting Yanmei continue her walk.

"You could have been hurt."

Yanmei spoke before hitting the man's nape, causing him to faint. Sirenes were heard outside, and people started to run outside like chickens without heads.

Roulan put the gun down, grabbing Yanmei's hand before intertwining it with hers. Her action causes the older woman to blush in the process.

"I'll be dead to your father."

-

"Oh my God! Are you alright!?"

Guang asked as soon as she saw Yanmei in the hotel lobby. Roulan quickly walked away, with Huiqing pestering her, asking questions like "Are you hurt?" or "Are you hungry?"

Guang couldn't help but judge the two of them; she glared as Roulan smiled at Huiqing before scratching her nape, as if in an act of shyness.

Yanmei sighed in relief. Ever since the police went in, Roulan has been quiet, and even if Huiqing's taking care of her or giving her attention, she doesn't seem to budge.

Yanmei knew this might be a trauma for her, and she wouldn't blame her if she decided to leave right here at this very moment to be with Huiqing, who has a more peaceful life.

Yet, one question seems to always pop inside Yanmei's head: would Roulan ever do that?

"Guang."

"Yes?"

"What does a slow heartbeat mean?"

"Dying."

"No, is there anymore meaning for it?"

Guang thinks for a while, frowning visibly on her face as she quickly shakes her head in the process, not coming up with an answer.

Yanmei sighs before messing with her hair. She walks towards the couch as Guang follows her.

"Why did you ask?"

"Earlier, Roulan and I talked in the bathroom, and my face is planted on her chest for... research purposes. Her heart beat seems slow and in... rhythm."

She spoke, unsure if her description really did justice to what she heard earlier. Guang nodded and hummed as if asking for the older woman to continue.

"And when we hid inside the bathroom stall, for when something happened, I could hear how her heart slowed down than the last time."

"Yep, get her heart checked up because she's dying."

"You think so?"

"I'm certain; I'm not studying to become a doctor, right?"

Guang spoke, her voice laced with sarcasm as she said the remaining phrases.

As soon as Roulan hits the mattress, she instantly lets go of everything and goes to dreamland.

Huiqing smiles at seeing her peaceful face, different from how she looked earlier when she confronted the man.

Her phone rang, causing her to volt in her place, and she quickly went outside the balcony to speak with the caller.

"Hello?"

She asks, not looking at the caller ID. The person on the other line raises an eyebrow even though she can't be seen.

"What's the news?"

"Mother, I think I'm starting to really like Roulan."

"Well, that's great news!"

"Yeah, she looks so... cool earlier."

Huiqing sighed, remembering how Roulan stands up couragiously on the ground and tackles one of the men.

"And?"

"And I feel like I'm certain about my feelings."

"Oh, my daughter, don't get so attached to her, ok? She's different than she's supposed to be."

"Huh? What exactly is it that you mean, Mother?"

Her ears picked up a beeping sound, insisting that her mother had already dropped the call. She furrowed her eyebrows before shrugging her shoulders and putting the phone back in her pocket.

"Just wait and see, my daughter."
