Chapter 3 - The Ice goblins (2)

Even before the first ice goblin died, I prepared another mouse just in case. I suspected one to not be enough, and since it only cost 40 mana to make one, it was the safest and greatest option.

Alas, I didn't have to.

I never expected the nano-mice to have so much piercing power. I thought that the ice goblins were somewhat resistant as they were still monsters and shouldn't be killed so easily, yet they died in an instant.

'Is it even plausible?'

I didn't know why I was still thinking about plausible things in this situation even though the world had already changed. It was perhaps a part of me that didn't want to accept this change.

But thankfully, the third killing notification woke me up.

[40 EXP earn for killing an Ice goblin]

[You are now level 2.]

[Congratulation August, you're the ninth person to level up so fast.]

[A lottery ticket has been granted for your achievement.]

I was puzzled by the system words, but as I didn't understand anything, I decided to forget it for now.

I quickly jogged toward the scared Julius with the two nano-mice protecting me.

"A-are you a-alright?" I didn't know why, but I felt like Julius became even more scared by my stuttering.

Thankfully, Roselle came as well, making Julius' worries dissipate a little. After all, the two nano-mice looked more terrifying than the goblins from earlier.

"Julius, can you get up?" Roselle asked as she helped him get up. I didn't know why, but I could see a faint purple aura around her.

"Y-yes. Thank you so much, August." Julius said to me while crying all the tears in his body. "You saved my life, I don't know how to repay you."

The poor boy looked lost as he was still weak from all the fear he had experienced. "It's a-alright. I-I did what needed t-to be d-done."

I tried to calm down Julius, but it looked like it wasn't easy as he was crying even more.

Did I say something wrong? I even looked at Roselle, but even she was comforting Julius while trembling. She too was scared by all of this.

Me too, of course. But I had my two nano-mice, so I could breathe a little.

As I wasn't good with words, I let Roselle comfort him and looked around.

"Seriously?" There was no one.

Everyone seemed to have escaped as the big lab was empty of people except for the three of us.

However, instead of being angry at them, I pitied them. The Ice goblins came from upstairs, meaning that there would be a lot more foes there. Staying here was actually a blessing in disguise for us.

There was no doubt they will... die.

I also took a peak at my mana, but I only had 22 left. Was it taking so much time to recover it? It has been almost 20 minutes already, yet I only recovered 2 points.

"Are you feeling better now, Julius?" Roselle asked after Julius stopped crying.

'Y-yes. Thank you again, August." I only nodded as I wasn't used to talking to him. Roselle was okay as she always came to me since I was alone, but I never interacted with Julius.

"Can I ask what post you both chose?" Roselle asked hesitantly. She didn't know if it was a good occasion to ask this, but as there weren't any more goblins who came downstairs, she guessed that they were alright for now. "I personaly chose the telekinesis post."

"I took chronomancy. I think it's a mage who can control time, at least from the description of the post." Julius said, not knowing if it was good or not. And both of them looked at me as if I could answer that question.

"I c-chose the n-nanomancy post. I can c-create nanobots and f-fuse them together." I hesitated. I didn't want to tell them that, but knowing that they were the only ones who stay with me in this situation, I guessed that I could probably trust them.

After all, in those types of universes, telling people about my attributes wasn't the greatest move to do.

But still.

"It's so formidable." Julius was the one to break the silence. It looks like he had stars sparkling in his eyes. "I hope I will be able to assist you in the future."

"Yes, that's right. What you did was impressive. You killed the three monsters on your own."Roselle added with a smile. "But now I feel like what we chose is bad."

I smiled bitterly. "T-telekinesis is very strong, b-but you need practice to use it e-efficiently. I advise you to f-fight with a weapon as well as it will h-help you tremendously when you'll f-fight with your a-ability." I then turned to Julius. "You t-too, Julius. You should take a w-weapon as time has rarely any o-offensive effect. Of course l-later on, it will be a-another m-matter. But for now, y-you need to know h-how to fight with a w-weapon."

I told both of them truthfully. As the two of them were scientists, I doubted they could perform greatly with a weapon. But it was still better than nothing.

Surprisingly, both of them nodded as if my words were completely true. They seemed to get the wrong idea about me.

"It's decided. I'll follow you from now on, August."

"Yes, I'll try to help as well."

I wish I could have a simple mind like them and not be burdened by my social anxiety.

And as if they always find the right way to ruin everything, a horde of ice goblins came.

One, two, three... seven, ten.

Seriously, ten?

Are they kidding me?

The ice goblins looked quickly around but found nothing. Still, they could smell blood in the air.

Thankfully we had the time to hide under a shelf, so the goblins couldn't see us.

*Pat*

*Pat*

Our luck was low as the three of us could hear steps near where we were hiding.

The two mice were ready to attack, but I ordered them mentally to not move for now, and they did so immediately.

Even though the mice were strong, they were also fragile. So they wouldn't live the assault of so many goblins.

We could probably make it if the two scientists besides me could somewhat be of help, but it looks like they wouldn't be able to for a while.

'Think August, think!'

I tried to make different plans to escape the lab in security in my mind, but none were successful. I always pictured us dying. And I don't have enough mana either. What can I do with 23 points? A smoke screen? But I don't know how to do that. A rock? A dog?

Come on August, think!!!

Julius and Roselle both looked at me biting one of my nails. It was a natural reaction in me when I was too stressed by something.

And they guessed they were part of the reason.

I couldn't deny it, even though they didn't say anything.

They were a real burden right now as in my plans, I was always fighting alone.

The mice were of course not enough as even nanobots have their limits.

"August, can you make weapons for us?" Roselle finally asked, taking her courage in her hands.

I looked at them, not understanding where this came from. Weapon? Could I make a weapon? How?

As if Julius knew what I was thinking about, he continued. "Yes. I used to do Kendo for a while, so can you make a sword for me?"

"And a Rapier for me, please. I'm quite good at fencing, so I'm sure I can somewhat manage." Roselle added nervously as we could hear the footsteps getting closer.
