Chapter 7 - The upper floors (3)

*Hyawowahya*

The shaman-goblin started chanting a spell in an unknown language, and the ice-goblins by its side started to glow in red light. It was as if they were going berserk.

I quickly stepped back as I couldn't really do anything on my own. It wasn't my place to be in the front in the first place.

The goblins started to run toward us. Roselle and Julius went into stance and waited for them.

*Wouafff*

My nano-dog barked loudly, and strangely enough, it attracted all the goblins' attention and headed toward it.

'D-did it provoked them?'

As if the shaman goblin knew what happened, it quickly cast another spell to cleanse the goblin from this provoked effect.

The ice goblins stopped in their tracks and shook their heads as if to clear their minds.

"Good boy, you saved our lives," Roselle said to my nano-dog while patting its head.

The shaman-goblin, seeing that its plan failed because of the dog, started to speak in a language that I didn't understand. It was clear that it was angry and frustrated.

I started to feel uneasy as if something bad was about to happen. The shaman-goblin raised its hand and pointed toward the ceiling. Suddenly, the temperature dropped drastically. It was even colder now and it seems like the cold penetrated our clothes. I could even see ice forming on the ground. It was how much the temperature dropped.

"This isn't good," Julius muttered under his breath. "We need to take down that shaman-goblin fast."

Roselle nodded in agreement and charged toward the shaman-goblin. Seriously from where did came this bravado? She was swinging her sword at the goblins that tried to stop her. Even with the use of her ability, it was hard to face this many monsters. Thankfully for her, Julius followed her lead, his sword ready for a fight.

I stayed back and watched as the battle unfolded. Roselle and Julius were quick on their feet, dodging the goblin's attacks and dealing heavy blows whenever they could. Unfortunately, the battle entered a stalemate because the goblin's wounds were starting to heal.

[New attribute detected: Healing]

I couldn't care less about the system right now as my companions were being pushed down. I looked at the nano-cat by my side and ordered it to assassinate the shaman goblin while my other creatures and companions were dealing with the others goblins.

The nano-cat nodded and quickly dashed towards the shaman-goblin, avoiding the ice goblins along the way. It jumped and aimed for the goblin's neck, but the shaman-goblin was quick to react and blocked the attack with its staff.

The nano-cat landed on the ground and immediately retreated to avoid getting hit by the goblin's staff. I knew that it wouldn't be easy to take down the shaman-goblin, especially with its powerful spells and healing ability.

"Hyawowahya!" The shaman-goblin let out a laugh, taunting us as it raised its staff again. Suddenly, the goblins surrounding us started to move in sync with the shaman-goblin, as if they were following its every command.

"This is bad, we're outnumbered," Roselle said as she blocked a goblin's attack with her sword. "We need to come up with a plan fast."

Julius nodded in agreement and looked around for a way out. "There's too many of them, we won't be able to take them all down. We need to find a way to disable the shaman-goblin's spells."

I quickly checked the system and searched for any weaknesses or vulnerabilities that we could exploit. "T-the shaman-goblin's s-spells seem to be f-fueled by its staff. If we can s-somehow take it a-away from him, w-we might be able to d-disable its s-spells."

"Good thinking," Julius said as he blocked another attack. "We need to distract the goblins and create an opening for someone to steal the staff."

Roselle nodded and quickly came up with a plan. "I'll create a distraction, you two go for the staff."

With that, Roselle charged toward the goblins, swinging her sword wildly to create chaos. It was clear from the way she moved that she was a beginner. Nonetheless, with her wide swing, the goblins started to take a few steps back. My nano-praying mantis helped her as well. While they were only three, their strengths were enough to push them back and even wound them a few times.

While she occupied the normal goblins, Julius rushed passed Roselle and quickly came across the shaman that was fighting the cat. Now that they were two, the shaman started to fall back as well. Julius even started to use his time ability to increase the nano-cat's speed, thus fighting the shaman even more easily.

Suddenly, the shaman-goblin raised its staff again and started chanting another spell. I knew we had to act fast. And as if my nano-dog knew what to do, it quickly rushed toward the shaman, not caring about anyone.

*Wouaff*

*Wouaff*

The moment Julius and the cat heard a dog barking, they jumped to the side, leaving the way open to the shaman.

*Kiargh?*

Just before the Shaman could conclude its spell, the dog took its staff, dispelling all buff immediately. Now that there wasn't any magic power channeling to the staff, the goblins started to get weaker.

The ice goblins lost their red glow, and their movements became slower. The shaman-goblin looked around, confused and disoriented as if it couldn't comprehend what just happened.

Julius and the nano-cat quickly took the opportunity to strike. They charged toward the shaman-goblin, their weapons ready for the final blow. The shaman-goblin tried to fight back, but without its staff, it was just a weak and feeble goblin.

With one swift strike, Julius's sword pierced through the shaman-goblin's chest, almost killing it. Unfortunately for him, the shaman goblin suddenly tried to strike Julius back with his hand as a last will to fight, but the nano-cat came right in time to behead it.

The goblins surrounding us stopped in their tracks as if they couldn't believe what just happened.

Roselle, Julius, and my other creatures finished off the remaining goblins, and we emerged victorious. It was a close call, but we managed to overcome the odds and defeat the goblins.

We took a moment to catch our breath and look around. The temperature started to rise, and the ice on the ground started to melt. Nevertheless, the cold still remained. Ice magic was more dangerous than I thought.

"Phew, that was intense," Roselle said as she wiped the sweat off her forehead. "I didn't expect it to be that hard."

Julius nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we were lucky that the nano-dog was able to take away the shaman's staff. Without it, we might not have made it."

I smiled, feeling proud of my nano-dog's contribution. "Y-yeah, it was a good t-thing I made one."

We decided to rest for a while before continuing our way out from the company's building. We went into a room to not be spotted by other monsters.

As I looked at my companions, I couldn't help but feel grateful to have them by my side. They were strong, brave, and reliable, and I knew that without them, I wouldn't have been able to live until this point.

As we rested, my nano-dog and nano-cat came to me with two things in their mouth. The dog had the staff of the shaman, while the cat had a small ring.

'What are those?' I asked myself, not awaiting any type of answer.

[Those are items that'll make you stronger if you wear them. Both come from the shaman goblin, a pretty good debut if you want my opinion.]

'Items? Really?' I was shocked to hear this as it was once again clear that our world has changed.

I took both items in my hands and windows suddenly appeared in front of me.

[Shaman goblin's staff:

Skill: Empowerment:

Allow the user to increase the physical stats of his underlings for a while.]

[Shaman goblin's ring:

+2 Intelligence]

Those items were so good, especially for me!

"What are you holding, August?" Julius asked curiously.
