"So, how was your first day at the University," said Amelia to Max with a warm smile on her face.
As he heard his mother's weakened voice, the young vampire's expression contorted with pain. Her illness had been left without a solution for far too long, and it seemed as though time was running out. Despite the agony he felt, he made a conscious effort to hide his emotions from his mother, not wanting her to worry about him.
He sat by her bedside, watching her acting as if nothing is wrong with her, even with all the pain she is internally feeling. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, but he knew that he had to be strong for her sake.
The young vampire couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt gnawing at him. If only he had been stronger, if only he had been able to find a cure sooner, maybe things would have been different. But he pushed those thoughts aside, knowing that he had to focus on the present and do everything he could to make his mother as comfortable as possible.
With a heavy heart, he started to converse with his mother. The young vampire knew that he had to be strong, but it was becoming increasingly difficult as he watched his mother's condition deteriorate before his very eyes.
"Today was an interesting day, Mother. I met someone this morning who acted like a young child one minute and an old-timer the next," said Max with a wry smile on his face when he remembered what Will was doing in the University today.
Remembering that couldn't help but make him chuckle a little.
Seeing her son put on a genuine smile like this compared to the other smiles he usually uses when comes to visit her, made her smile warmer.
"It seemed that you had a good time with your new friend," she said in a gentle tone.
"We are not yet friends, Mother. We are just acquaintances," said Max while waving his hands at his mother.
Amelia just stared at her son's reaction with a gentle smile.
Although Maxwell had endured a lot of bullying and other events that could have corrupted even the purest of souls, he matured quickly and his essence remained largely untainted by the darkness of society. Despite his struggles, he managed to maintain his integrity and his gentle nature, which helped ease his mother's worries a little.
All of this is because of the woman sitting in front of him managed to be his last bastion from the cruel world out there.
But his last place for protection is on the verge of being destroyed as his mother is dying at a faster rate but Max has no idea that something like this is happening.
Max was destined to lose his mother in a few weeks if there was no outside intervention, and that would have been the natural course of action.
But we have someone who is going not bound by the fate of the Universe, and by giving a hand to this kid as his disciple, he managed to change this person's fate and managed to change Max's fate at the same time.
Just like that Max spent a few hours with his mother chatting and laughing until he said his goodbye and used one of the teleportation devices to return to his room near the University.
What did you think that the other races are not that advanced in the usage of Mana and technology?
Of course not, even if the Devourer destroyed a lot of things in the past.
That was still the past, like 1 billion years have passed, so a lot has changed.
As Max just arrived in his room, Will had just thrown the Red orb through the space crack at this moment.
After 20 minutes that Max used to bathe in them.
Max was just coming outside of the bathroom when he suddenly felt a terrifying breath coming from the empty space in front of him.
The terrifying breath made Max horrified as the power from this breath was even stronger than the breath that his father shows.
Max just stood there petrified wondering what is going next.
Suddenly in front of Max a terrifying space crack formed in front of him.
Looking inside the crack made Max think that he was staring into a deep abyss that has no end in sight.
While Max was just standing like that.
A glowing Reb Orb suddenly emerged from the Space crack.
Then the Red Orb released an energy wave that surpassed all the instability occurring around the room.
After stabilizing the room, the Red Orb rotated in place as it was searching for something or someone.
And as soon as it noticed Max that was finally feeling that he could breathe, the Red Orb shoot directly into him.
Max was startled again and was going to shout, but before he can even open his mouth, the Red Orb entered inside him directly with enough force to knock him on his ass.
As Max was going to wonder what is going to happen next, he suddenly felt terrifying pain that came directly from the soul, the pain was so antagonizing that Max felt that he is going to die.
Max knew that if he lost consciousness here, he would probably die without even knowing why.
So, he just did what he is best at.
Persist.
He persisted in soul-wrenching pain for a large amount of time that felt like years.
But on the outside, only 10 mins has passed, if Max knew he would probably faint.
Now let's take a look at the reason for the soul-wrenching pain that suddenly engulfed Max.
Inside Max's body, the Red Orb ignored his physical body totally and immediately passed by his astral body.
Here the Orb stopped for a second and then continued again to the last layer that contains everything that identifies Max as a person, his memories, his bloodline, and even his powers.
Everything originated from the soul.
So to make changes to Max on a fundamental level, the Orb needs to fuse with Max's soul to be able to alter his power and improve his talent.
So that is what it did.
As soon as the Red Orb arrived at the center of his soul, it found some seals that seemed to be restricting something in Max.
The Red Orb didn't care about those seals and immediately smashed them to pieces with the power contained in the orb.
Such a thing should have let Max feel a large amount of freedom, but the poor boy didn't even have the time to feel anything from the pain as the Red Orb carried on with its job.
That is one of the reasons that led Max to his current situation.
After the Red Orb finished tiding any remnants of the seal in Max's soul, it immediately started its original work which is to fuse with Max's soul, which lead to even more excruciating pain for the poor kid outside.
But for Max's bad luck, the Orb is just programmed to finish its job quickly, so it didn't care about Max's state outside.
After what seemed like an eternity for Max, he suddenly felt the pain disappear as if it was a lie.
Suddenly there was a robotic voice in Max's head and a crimson screen with gold engraving appeared in front of his eyes.

Of course, Max has already lost consciousness before even the second screen could appear before him.
But from today Max's Road to the top would be granted if nothing happens to him, but of course, the Devourer would ensure that nothing would happen to his new disciple from the dark.
