Chapter 1 - Dreadful Night

The night was dark and all Jonny could see through the tiny window of his bedroom was a distant lightning that keeps on splitting the heavens. Normally with weather like this and rain seems to start pouring any time soon. He usually likes it. But not today, for today it seems odd and there is a feeling he does not like about tonight. He was not sure of the feeling yet, and where was coming from but he did not like it.

He was not certain of what to do. To Jonny the night was becoming weird, but little did he know that it was just getting started. The wall light that he was using to light the room with mysteriously went out and he can't locate the matchbox to light the lantern with.

His adventure touch that he always keeps close to his pillow today he forget it in the dining room beside the chair he sat on while eating. Earlier he went with it to the backyard to check on his rabbits who were growling in their hutch. When he got there he found nothing in particular in the hutch that could have made the rabbits growl like that.

Could it be the weather that has changed that was making the rabbits make a sound like that if so, then it is true that animals including rabbits do feel the change in weather and now they are trying to warn them of the coming rain, he thought. Being that there was nothing disturbing the rabbits he return to the house and found the food readily served, that why he did not return his touch to his room.

Now he was all alone in the creepy darkness inside his own room and had nothing to light the room with. He thought of a solution to his current predicament but found none. His situation was getting worse with each time passing by. With the darkness, thunder, and lightning roaring and splitting the earth with its rage, moving from his room to that of his parents was an unthinkable idea live out calling them. That was just a bad idea. He could not manage to go there by himself.

The rain outside has now increased its tempo and the only thing that was loud enough then was the thunderstorm. It rains for about an hour then it ceased with it the thunderstorm and that gave him a sigh of relief from all the noises he was hearing, he thought it was going to be well now and the night won't be scary and probably the lights will be back on again.

With the sudden stop of rain that followed Jonny did not like it. And to say the truth he wished the rain could not have stopped. It was scary quiet, and this was the time that he wanted his parents really badly. Can't they just appear behind the closed door and into his room to be with him during this time? Or just come and check on him. What are they doing that has kept them from coming to his room since the scary night started?

He had a lot of questions running through his mind and he did not have their answers at that moment. Now that he needed them is when they decided to bail on him. A lot of things run through Jonny's mind.

He thought of opening the door and walking through the corridor downstairs and then to his parent's room. With this kind of darkness what could be laying in the corridor and what about the stairs and again the hallway just waiting for the loose beings to pounce on? During the night scary monsters do roam the corridors.

He again thought of calling his parents to come to his rescue but what if those monsters he always heard their stories being told turned out not to be just a story but to be real and heard his voice, and decided to come for him how will he cope with that. He cannot let those monsters take him if they are really there so he decided not to do anything that can lead to him being taken away.

Jonny always had a superstition about the monster ever since he was told the story about the monster that do come at night looking for humans that they may take with them to their world, of which others think that the ones that have been taken by the monsters at night will be feed on every day while others do believe that those grabbed will be feed on and then turned to be monsters also.

All in all, what remains to be true to Jonny was the fact that the night monsters as people do refers to them do snatch people at night when they come to earth, and the movies he does watch always confirm his belief in the monsters.

He depicts monsters as dead humans that have no capability of reasoning with their dirty clothes smeared in blood and with pale skin, and are only driven by one urge and that is the urge for human blood, and what Jonny does not get was why don't night monsters just drunk the blood out of the human being they capture on the spot just as the way he does see in the movies. Why go through that lengthy stress of dragging live humans to wherever they come from while what they need is the blood running through their veins?

So with all that Jonny had heard previously about the monsters that come at night, he vows not to call his parents for his voice might give out his location, and the imaginary monsters may know his where about and come for him. While all these thoughts run through his mind, Jonny found out he was clinging to the doorknob all along and unable to do anything. He just stood there like someone who has been struck by lightning and paralyzed all over his body.

Jonny decided to stay put until his parents come to his aid and save him from the dreadful night for he was too afraid to venture into the darkness alone inside the house to his parent's room. They will come and everything will be fine when they arrive, he thought.
