Penelope walked slowly to the rooftop and Dee followed her silently. She sat down on the floor then after ten seconds she lay down in a fetal position as if she was in pain.
"I never thought career guidance is done this way." Dee said finally revealing himself to her and she sat up quickly.
"She'll be here soon." Penelope lied.
Dee sat down next to her and she sighed and then groaned before lying back down on the floor.
"Are you unwell?" he asked making her sit back up.
"Does a heartbreak count?" she asked smiling sadly.
Dee felt his own heartbreaking at her words. She had someone else? He blinked a few times after looking into her eyes then he nodded and she sighed. He didn't push her to say anything and waited patiently for her to speak.
"I have had this guy in my life and I've loved him for as long as I can remember. We were dating as of late but then things went south and he decided he didn't want me anymore."
"Where is he?" Dee asked.
"College. I wanted to go there for him but now....."
"So you do need to see Miss Donna." Dee pointed out trying to liven up the mood and she smiled a little,"Is that all?"
"I have cramps." she said rubbing her belly with a smile.
Dee smiled back at her and then placed his hand on her belly. She felt heat spread throughout her abdomen and the pain significantly reduced. He kept his hand there a while longer and then he let go.
"Thanks." she said sighing.
"You're welcome. Let's go."
"I want to be alone."
"It won't do you good to be alone. You're better off without someone who doesn't appreciate you."
Penelope smiled weakly and then started going back inside with Dee.
"What can I do to cheer you up?" De asked feeling bad for not paying attention to her.
"Well...we still have a pending flight." Penelope said smiling up at him.
"Saturday then. Just us."
"Of course. If the others come along I won't get to enjoy myself."
"Go where?" Melody asked from behind them.
Both Penelope and Dee turned to look at her and then at each other then back at Melody.
"Where are you going?" she asked again walking closer and she came to stand between them so she could be close to Dee.
"It's a promise I made to her when we met." Dee explained,"And I want to honour it."
"Can't I come?" Melody asked sadly,"You won't even know I'm there."
"No. Sorry." Dee responded without mincing his words.
Melody quickly glanced at Penelope and then stiffly smiled at Dee. She sighed and then turned around sadly hoping he would stop her and say he didn't mind her tagging along but nothing happened and he let her continue walking.
"She really..." Penelope started only to have Dee carry her and silently run to a hidden area on the roof.
He made her sit down and he glanced over at where Melody was hiding as she was now visible from where they sat. Penelope contorted herself and was about to say something when Dee stopped her. They watched Melody peep out in confusion because they weren't talking anymore and then when she saw they weren't there anymore she was confused even more. She started looking for them and Dee took the opportunity to carry Penelope away from there.
"Is it safe to leave her there?" Penelope asked when Dee put her down once they were inside.
"Why wouldn't it be fine?" he asked back.
"She just looks like she might pull up a stunt to make sure you stay around her."
"Such as?"
"I don't know....cause a scene by trying to jump off the roof."
Dee was quiet for a while and then he started to walk away. Penelope followed him and they went back to the cafeteria. After less than twenty minutes, some of the students who had gone outside started screaming and soon the whole school gathered outside including the stuff who were more than scared for their lives. Dee looked up at the roof and frowned deeply when he saw Melody standing at the edge with tears in her eyes. She saw him looking at her and cried even harder after seeing the look on his face of contempt and anger. Dee went back inside and calmly walked to the roof. The door was locked so he decided to go back down. He went and stood outside with everyone else then he extended his arm out to her as if he wanted her to take it.
Melody was confused wondering if he wanted her to jump. She was confused and just stood still. The crowd quietened down for that brief moment wondering if Dee really wanted her to jump off a three storey building.
"Come down!" Dee shouted and Melody pretended like she didn't hear him and instead moved forward.
There was a collective gasp from the crowd but when she looked at Dee she only saw anger. She swallowed back her saliva and then stepped back quickly. A few minutes later, after they all thought Melody was coming down, she reappeared at the edge of the roof. She was alone this time and was with Nixon's older brother who held her by the throat and it was clear that if he remained there she would definitely suffocate. Dee clenched his fists as he looked at the boy's face.
"Wassup, Delsatoriota?" Flynn shouted as he squeezed Melody even more,"I got your girlfriend over here with me! Why don't you come and get her before I drop her!"
Dee ignored Flynn calling Melody his girlfriend and he went inside. Within two minutes he was on the roof where he could only see an unconscious melody laid at the edge of the roof. Any slight movement and she would be on the ground with splattered guts. He moved forward and heard someone approaching from behind. He quickly dodged and skillfully retaliated. Flynn was on the ground and he was already even bleeding.
"Hey!"
Dee looked away from Flynn and saw that one of his friends was standing over Melody with a gun while in front of him were four armed boys. Dee sprinted towards them and and before any one of them could even act, he used a little magic to disarm them. They were all surprised and didn't react fast enough to dodge Dee's successive punches. In the time he was distracted, Melody rolled off the roof and he had to dive to reach her. As they fell, Dee embraced Melody and placed himself so that to impact would be on him. Naturally his wings threatened to emerge but before they could, Vermont's back finally touched the ground. The pain was so intense that Dee blacked out immediately.
When he woke up three days later, he was breathing heavily as he lay on his back. He was happy there was no one in the room and he sighed heavily and breathlessly. After a few minutes, Dee sat up on the bed and stretched, cracking a few of his bones as he did. He didn't feel any pain as he stretched but after he finished, he felt a wave of pain roll all over his back, especially where his wings were. The door opened and a nurse walked in with a writing pad in her hand. Dee took a deep breath and realized he knew who she was and he smiled. She didn't look up from the pad immediately and first closed the door suspiciously. She turned around and run to the bed like a child.
"Hey." Dee greeted her with a bright smile on his face.
"Hi. Are you feeling fine?" she asked placing her small hand on his neck as if to check his temperature.
"Nothing is wrong there. I'm worried about my wings though. They were going to...."
"Shhh!" she stopped him and made him bend over so she could just see for herself and then she hasped after seeing nothing,"Have they disappeared or something?!"
"What do you mean?"
"Your back is perfectly flat like a real person. Before when you just mysteriously fell asleep there were always these little ridges on your back."
"What? Ridges?"
"Yes. I always checked your back when no one was in your room."
"I can feel them but I don't know if they will properly....work for a while."
She was quiet for a moment and took off the spectacles she had worn to perfect her disguise. She sat next to him on the bed and just blankly starred at the wall. Dee watched her silently and smiled after realizing what she must have been thinking about. He brought his hand up to her face and made her face him. He took a whiff of her scent and looked down at her lips then back up into her eyes. Subconsciously, she looked down at his lips too and run her tongue over her own in preparation to speak but she didn't get the chance to do so as Dee planted a kiss on her lips; gentle and slow.
