The kiss left Penelope's lips feeling hot and moist with a bit of sourness. She didn't dare to look Vermont in the eyes and kept her gaze low on his neck. She saw how his veins were bulging as they pumped, filled with blood.
"Shy?" he asked and she lowered her eyes even more, down to his chest.
"I...I'm just breathing." she replied.
"Is my face suffocating?"
Before she could respond, Dee scooped her up in his arms and raised her to his eye level. She blushed, almost looking like a rip tomato. He smiled and was about to kiss her again but then he heard some footsteps approaching the door. She heard it too and got up, quickly putting on her glasses. She stood awkwardly next to the bed with the notepad and pen in hand. The door opened and a doctor walked in. Upon seeing Penelope standing there, he narrowed his eyes as he was certain that the he had just met nurse in charge of monitoring Vermont just a while ago.
"Who are you?" he asked walking towards the bed.
Penelope stiffened with widened eyes and she quickly gripped her pen.
"The minister made it clear that no one should visit him right now. What's your name?" the doctor continued now standing right next to her.
Seeing as Penelope was going to get into trouble Vermont was about to defend her but no words came out of his mouth. The monitor started to make beeping noises and the doctor quickly went to check what was wrong. Penelope looked down at Dee worriedly, almost tearing up. He scrunched up his face as he felt a sharp pain go through his body. The beeping got louder and faster and soon Dee was convulsing on the bed while Penelope stared in horror. A few other nurses came rushing into the room and went to help the doctor deal with the problem.
Someone came and took Penelope away and the whole time Penelope stared at Dee powerlessly. The nurses were holding him down While the doctor prepared an injection for him. When she was away from the room, Penelope finally realized that she was no longer there. She turned to see who had pulled her out of the room and wasn't too surprised to see Melody.
"What were you doing there?" Melody asked glaring at Penelope, "You are the reason that he was injured in the first place and now you even dare to come and see him?"
"Are you his guardian to forbid me from seeing him?" Penelope asked back a little angry.
Melody glanced behind Penelope for a second and the squatted and started to cry. Penelope sighed, knowing that obviously either her mother or father was coming. She didn't pay attention even when she heard Mel's mother calling to her and she just went to stand back outside the door to Dee's room. He seemed to be asleep again and she wondered if it was going to be one of his really long naps. She already missed him so much even though she was looking at him. A warm hand came to settle on her shoulder and she turn to find Nixon who seemed to be in an even worse state than the actual patient.
"The cops are here." he said almost in a whisper.
"I'll be there." Penelope responded looking down at her feet.
Nixon reverted his hand and turned away to walk away. Penelope watched his feet as he shuffled away quietly and slowly. She sighed and looked up to look at Dee again. She was startled to find him standing right at the door with a calm expression while the doctors stared at him in shock and fear. He smiled at Penelope and she did the same. Once more Mel came to stand in between them and Dee's smile fell instantly. Mel wanted to hug him but the door was closed and with how Dee was standing there like a statue he probably wouldn't move back to let her open it. His expression turned hard when she tried reaching for the door and it broke her heart into a million pieces. He was always so cold to her, making it more than crystal clear that he didn't like her the way she wanted to be liked, but she didn't want to give up yet.
Penelope pushed Mel aside and reached for the door handle and to Mel's horror, he stepped back to let her in. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she watched Penelope walk in and her heart squeezed when they hugged. She run from there so she wouldn't break down and she run into her father, who she hugged tightly and continued to cry. Her father didn't ask what was wrong because whenever she cried it was always Penelope Cruz. He gritted his teeth silently and wondered how he could make room for his daughter in the boy's heart.
