Roxanne exhaled deeply as she stood outside the huge mansion that represented the home of the Smiths.
Feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. The breeze drifted through her hair and caressed her face. She smiled, embracing the peaceful moment and feeling grateful for the chance to start anew.
"Phew! I feel so relieved." Roxanne sighed, rejoicing that she had successfully walked out of the Smith mansion. In her previous life, she had never had the courage or even thought of doing something like this.
"Hmm... Now that I have given Anthony something to worry about, what do I do next? I need to get to the Walter mansion." Roxanne said. If she wanted to pursue her revenge, she would need the assistance of her maternal grandparents.
"But...how the hell am I gonna get there? I have no information about the Walters family." Roxane mumbled.
When she arrived from abroad in her past life, she inquired about her maternal grandparents. Anthony lied to her saying that they wanted to take over her mother's assets and properties. At the time, she was too stupid, young, and naive to believe him. This made her keep her distance from the Walters and she no longer bothered to interact with them anymore.
"Damn that Anthony, he cooked up those lies and I foolishly believed him." Roxanne cursed as she remembered that past. "I don't even know where to begin my search for the Walter family. Do they even remember that their daughter had a child?" Roxanne wondered.
After 30 minutes, Roxanne finally made it out of the estate near the Smith mansion. Her mind was still clouded by how she was going to communicate with the Walter family. When suddenly her stomach growled, earning a grunt from Roxanne.
"Shit! I shouldn't have abandoned the food on the dining table earlier." Roxanne was grateful she had the foresight to leave the estate a long time ago. She remembered that there was a restaurant just down the street from her previous life.
"Ha, there..." Roxanne's eyes caught sight of a cafe across the road. With a sigh of relief, she quickly made her way to the nearest cafe to get something to eat.
Without taking a moment to look at the road because she was in a hurry and her mind was focused on the cafe, she did not see a black car in the distance.
Roxanne had already stepped onto the road. She heard the sound of a car engine and saw a black car approaching her. As soon as Roxanne saw the car, her eyes widened in shock. She fell down on the ground closing her eyes in fright.
"The fact that I always get crushed by cars. I must have been so unfortunate. Wait, shouldn't I feel pain by now?" Roxanne had already accepted the fact that she would die a second death by being hit by a car again. However after a few seconds she still felt nothing.
Roxanne opened her eyes slowly. She saw a black shiny car just a few inches from her face.
A huge breath that Roxanne was holding was let out without her knowing it.
"...I am alive... Hahaha! I am really alive." Roxanne was so relieved that she couldn't contain her joy, and let out a hearty laugh. She almost hugged the car, but she quickly refrained herself from doing so in order to look stupid in public.
Roxanne was still in the process of regaining her composure when she was shocked by a sudden voice beside her. "What the...." She turned to see who was speaking.
"Who are you?" Roxanne asked.
"I am the driver of this car. Are you okay Miss?" A middle-aged man asked, as he stared at the young lady in front of him with a concerned expression. However, he got no response from Roxanne.
"Miss? Are you okay? Please tell me if you are hurt anywhere? The man asked again, when Roxanne didn't answer his previous question.
"No I'm not hurt and I'm perfectly fine, thank you" Roxanne said as she brushed away dirt from her body.
"Are you sure Miss that you are alright? I can bring you to the hospital if you feel any pain right away." The young man said he wanted to be sure that Roxanne was alright.
"That won't be necessary, I really am fine, sir." Roxanne replied curtly, refusing his offer. She bent down to pick up her backpack which had fallen off her shoulder.
"And plus if I was injured I wouldn't be standing but wailing out in pain, so rest assured." She smiled and nodded, grateful for his concern. A hint of playfulness emanates from her voice.
"Um...oh..." The man was interrupted when his phone rang in his pocket. He quickly pulled out his phone and walked a few steps away before answering the call.
As soon as he picked up the phone, he replied, "Yes boss...the young lady is fine." He raised his head to look at Roxanne as the person on the other line said something.
"But...boss...that doesn't seem necessary, o...okay, I understand, I will get the job done." The man hung up the phone and walked back towards Roxanne with a reluctant attitude.
"Mister, thank you for your concern. I will be taking my leave." Roxanne said as she slung the bag over her shoulder again.
"No wait Miss, my boss would like to see you, and he is waiting for you in the car if you don't mind." The driver said as he beckoned Roxanne towards the car.
"Boss?" Roxanne raised an eyebrow at the man.
"He's waiting for me in the car." She stretched out her neck and looked into the car behind the man.
"I wasn't expecting that but is it that necessary? She asked as she looked at the man.
"Please Miss, you have nothing to worry about and I'm sure it won't take away much of your time."
"Okay fine lead the way sir." Roxanne said with a sigh as the driver led her to the car. Although somewhat reluctantly, Roxanne accompanied the driver to the window. She peered through the window, but the tinted glass prevented her from getting a proper look at the person she wanted to meet.
Despite Roxanne's disappointment, she was more curious about this boss, because the driver seemed frightened whenever he mentioned his boss earlier. As she approached the car window, she raised her hand to knock on the window. However, as soon as she raised her hand to knock, the window came down, which left her hand frozen in the air.
''How rude.'' Roxanne mumbled, placing her hand down.
Roxanne was about to lecture the boss about being rude, but her words became muffled when she spotted the person in the car. She could only stare in shock and disbelief, unable to find the words to express her outrage at his behavior. Although the darkness in the car prevented her from getting a full profile of his face. She could only see the side of his face, which left her utterly speechless.
Roxanne was captivated by his features, and he had an air of mystery that drew her in and made her forget her train of thought.
Ehem! Ehem! The driver cleared his throat from behind when he saw Roxanne just standing there without saying anything.
"What a poor little girl. She has become a victim of the demon king's charm." The driver felt sympathetic for Roxanne and was ready to act should the need arise, he had seen the havoc caused by such charm and was not about to let it happen again.
"I was told you would see me?" Roxanne asked. She quickly composed herself not to let her emotions get the best of her.
"How much do you want?" The cold and stern voice asked. The tone of the voice suggested that the speaker was not interested in negotiation or compromise, but rather was expecting a straightforward answer.
"What do you mean?" Roxanne asked, her tone stern and her posture rigid.
"Your bravery is admirable, but I'm sure it wasn't for free. How much was your reward for your courage?" The man in the car asked coldly with a hint of arrogance in his voice.
Roxanne snapped when his question triggered her. Her surprise turned to anger. "What kind of game are you playing?" She demanded.
"This guy is really pissing me off." Roxanne scoffed.
"You should stop being too overconfident and arrogant. Just apologize for nearly killing me with your car." Roxanne glared at him furiously.
He crossed his arms, his lips set in a thin line as he stared her down. "I don't owe you an apology. You should have paid more attention to your surroundings."
Roxanne gritted her teeth when she heard his words. She narrowed her eyes, realizing that it was her fault for rushing onto the road. She took a deep breath and silently chastised herself for not being more cautious.
"Okay let's say I am a little bit at fault. You need to understand that actions have consequences, and you just can't do whatever you want without facing the repercussions!" Roxanne said with a serious expression on her face.
"Then what do you want? I thought you didn't want my money?" He asked.
"I don't want your money. I want something else." Roxanne replied.
He said coldly, " Little girl, if you have something to say, say it quickly." He stared at Roxanne outside.
'Little girl my ass, considering the twenty-five-year-old soul I carry in a fifteen-year-old body. I am twice your age you asshole.' Roxanne's face turned horrible as she glared at him.
"How about buying me a meal?" Roxanne suggested.
The driver standing by the side nearly vomited when he heard Roxanne's request. "This lady is crazy. Did she just ask the boss to buy her a meal without hesitation?" He thought to himself.
"If I buy you a meal, how would you compensate me?" He asked looking at Roxanne.
'This guy is really annoying.' Roxanne thought as her eyes twitched.
"Look here Mister. I was on my way to get something to eat when you almost hit me with your car. So can you be less shameless by asking me for compensation? Because right now I am considered poor." Roxanne had a pitiful expression conveying the gravity of her situation.
The man remained silent for a while as she stared at her. "Fine get in before I change my mind." He said coldly as he raised the window.
The driver had a shocked expression on his face, reflecting on how strange it was that his boss was allowing her in his car despite bickering with her.
Roxanne couldn't help but roll her eyes as she took her seat. 'So much for his pride', she thought, a hint of sarcasm in her tone.
