"Its impossible for me not to feel bad, I can hear the people crying for help. I can also see them, It would only take a little effort and a little bit of time. I can help them."
When Rachel heard him talk like this there was a little smile on her face but she still shook her head. " I cant let you do that, We can't let the public know that a super powered alien is on the planet. "
"Then I'll be quick, I have super speed, I'll get them out before they could realize I was even there."
"I still can't let you go Verlin. How do you know if you can get them out safely? Do you think everyone is as indestructible as you are, A normal persons internal organs could rupture, or their neck could snap. There are too many things to consider. If you really want to help, you have to train on how to help."
Verlin wanted to say something but he knew she was right, although he was sure they could rescue them safely, there was no guarantee " I need some time to cool off a bit, ill go back to the base before dusk. " After he said this he took and flew towards the north. Rachel squinted her eyes as she watched him disappeared. After she heard the sonic booms coming from the direction he left. She immediately brought her phone and called Felix. As soon as Felix answered the call he asked
" So, how's the mission"
"He isn't here right now, he went towards the north to cool off and would be back before dusk. You might want to have the satellites follow him. Also my mind control doesn't work on him, The best I can do is send some suggestions to his brain, and even then its difficult."
Felix sighed, " This is very problematic, how did he react when he saw the city"
"At least he shows so sympathy, he even suggested helping but I stopped him before he could take action. Two more things. For one, he has superspeed, I'm not sure how fast he can go, but he just broke the sound barrier. Second, he can fly and also suspected enhanced vision, and possibly x-ray vision."
Felix was rubbing the temples on his head" When he heard of super speed, he thought of the moment when Verlin disappeared and reappeared with clothes, even now they didn't know where he got them. He just hoped everything worked out. They already had their hands full with war preparations, if they had to deal with Verlin as well, the future won't be looking too bright.
"Alright then, return to the base and wait for his arrival, not much we can do now."
Verlin Pov.
He wasn't sure how fast he was going but everything around him seemed to slow down, and while lost in thought he had arrived in a cold tundra. He landed on a snow capped mountain and took a seat. He wasn't sure how cold it was but he didn't feel a thing, He hadn't really had time to be alone on the planet, after arriving he had been under constant watch, although he was dissatisfied he was still being cooperative. However he wanted some time to enjoy himself, he finally had something and it was his, it felt real and it felt powerful. He squeezed his hand and a small shockwave swept the top of the mountain.
When he thought back to the scene in city C, he knew that he had changed slightly, If it was the old him there would be absolutely no chance he would have considered helping. Maybe because he now had the power to help without putting himself in harms way that's why his thoughts were changing. He couldn't help but laugh at himself with mockery, he wasn't brave or righteous, he was just a coward with extra power. He shook his head and brought himself back to reality.
He wanted to test how much strength he had so he needed something heavy, he looked around and saw a giant iceberg about 100 km away, he took off from the top of the mountain and unknowingly caused an avalanche. In less than a minute he arrived at the location above the iceberg, He saw some penguins about 2km away but he didn't think his test would affect them, so he didn't change locations. He looked at the iceberg that was about 30 meters high from the bottom to the top. Subconsciously taking a deep breathe, even if he didn't need to, he entered the ocean, He reached under the iceberg, and it was much larger than previously anticipated, it must have been more than 100 meters from top to bottom. He wrapped his telekinetic force field around the entire iceberg and pushed up, but the expected pressure didn't arrive, and quite effortlessly he lifted it out of the ocean.
This thing must have weighed at least a million tons. He threw the iceberg about 1 km into the air, and his eyes started turning red until it shot out a thick pillar of condensed heat, directly splitting it into multiple miniature sized pieces. He entered superspeed mode and the falling Iceberg immediately came to a halt, he flew up and grabbed each piece of the iceberg and stuck each of them back together. And then he used freeze breath to really glue them back together and let it fall. After he released super speed mode, he saw the iceberg making a huge wave spreading in all directions but would stop after traveling some distance.
Seeing his display of power he couldn't help but send out a hearty laugh. But his laugh carried a bit of power with it and caused a shockwave spreading in all directions around. "Super vocals huh? who knew". He looked at the direction towards the penguins and turned on super hearing. He could hear them quacking at each other, and his brain could make up the pattern in their speech. It was as he had guessed, since he could learn a new language by listening to patterns in speech, he could probably do the same with animals. Although their speech was relatively simple minded, but it showed they had a consciousness as well.
As he got closer and closer, he noticed something very strange, the penguins sizes weren't getting smaller, when he had arrived. His eyes were wide open, As he saw penguins over 7 ft tall, he himself was only about 5 ft 7 in He had never seen anything like this in his life. He immediately bolted out towards the sky, and when he realized he was already in space. Verlin couldn't help but be disappointed with himself, just seeing some large penguins was enough to scare him out of the planet, it would be justifiable if he was a normal person, but he could probably kill all those penguins before they could realize what had hit them. He shook his head and headed straight to the base, he really needed some answers.
