After flying for a couple of minutes, Verlin arrived at the base. He used his X ray vision to scan through it and noticed that Rachel hadn't returned. He figured that he must have only been gone for a couple of minutes. When he entered the base, He walked towards Felix's office, but before he opened the door, Felix came out. When he saw Verlin, he was shocked because he had just asked the headquarters to focus their satellites on him. "What are you doing here? I thought you needed some time to cool off. "
"Well, cooling off didn't take up as much time as I thought. Also, can I have a computer? I need to do some research. Something doesn't seem right about this planet."
Felix didn't think much of it and replied, "Alright then, I'll send one to your room. You can ask for anything as long as it's not unreasonable." He paused a little before continuing." I also heard that you wanted to help with the damages in City C, If you really want, we can make a training program designed for you. And we can get started tomorrow."
Verlin nodded his head and replied, " Thanks, and if we can start training as soon as tomorrow, I don't mind." Without waiting for a reply, verlin went to his room, which was actually just a cell. But after he took off the bars, it could pass as a room.
It didn't take long for the computer to arrive, and at the same time, Rachel returned to the base and entered his room. She looked at the computer and said, " If you really wanted to know something, you can just ask me."
"There are somethings that are better to be researched alone."
As Verlin scrolled through the biography of the planet, he figured out the differences between the earth he was on before and the one here. First of all, the star this planet rotates around is about 2 million km in diameter, which is twice the diameter of the sun, which means the earth is further away from the star, so it can be in its habitable zone.Which also means that it takes longer for the earth to make a full rotation around the star, and 1 year is equivalent to 500 days. Each year has 10 months, and each month has 5 weeks, and each week is 10 days.
Verlin turned back to Rachel, who had been behind him this whole time and asked, " How old are you?"
Rachel looked offended by his question and said, " Don't you know it's rude to ask a woman her age, or do your entire species lack proper manners."
Verlin was speechless for a second. He had never dealt with racism on this scale before, but he didn't take it to heart. He completely disregarded her tone and said, "Just tell me, it's important."
" Im turning 23 in 6 months."
When verlin heard this, he was astounded because in regular earth years, that would mean that she was over 30 years old, but she looked like she was in her early twenties. And sure enough, as Verlin kept scrolling, he saw the average lifespan for the humans on this planet was 150 years, which would be over 200 years old on old earth.
Verlin himself was only 26 years old when he died. That would mean his age would have equated to just over 19 years on this planet. Verlin had secretly thought that Rachel was his junior, that's why he was always tolerant of her attitude. Now, he couldn't help scold her in his heart for being so childish and petty.
(I will be calling his previous life earth, old earth and the new planet, new earth. And also the old earths humans, old humans and new earth humans, new humans)
As Verlin kept scrolling, he started seeing more and more differences between the two earths. The average height of the new humans was higher than those of old humans as well. He looked at Rachel and realized she was quite tall as well, about 6 ft tall, he just thought those that were chosen for the military just happened to be taller, but it seemed the species as a whole had a height boost. And he just happened to become a short man on this planet, even if he would be considered average on old earth.
Although it was a stretch, these differences could give an explanation to why the penguins on new earth were so large, but he would probably have to go back there eventually for more research, he felt that there was a lot more to this than what meets the eye.
Rachel behind verlin was looking at him with a complicated look. She still remembered him flying off and effortlessly breaking the sound barrier. She couldn't believe a being so similar to them, at least on the outside, could possess such power. She herself had the ability to mind control, and it had never failed her. She could use it to get whatever she wanted. And seeing someone who could easily shrug out of her continuous attempts, it couldn't help but make her feel that maybe she really wasn't all that.
"Hey,"
Verlin looked back at Rachel and responded "Whats up?"
"Since you are gathering information on us, how about you tell me something about yourself."
Verlin contemplated for second before replying, "Sure, what do you want to know." It wasn't that he trusted her. it's just that he really had nothing to hide, cause if he was being logical, he would truly be considered an alien to this planet, he was after all from a completely different planet, but things he didn't want her to know, he wouldn't say.
"Does everyone on your planet possess power similar to yours."
"No, think about it. If every being on a planet possessed similar power, there would be no planet."
If she had asked if every being of your species possessed similar power, that would have been a completely different case.
Rachel responded, " So, you were a special case even on your planet."
"Well, the current me is indeed a special case."
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, there is no point talking about it, even I myself am not so sure about it."
Rachel didn't delve deeper into it and said with a smirk. "Is everyone else on your planet as short as you are?"
While still staring at the computer, Verlin replied, " Very funny, I was actually considered average height on my planet."
"Is your hair color also common on your planet?"
"It's not a natural thing like mine, but others could change their hair color to silver as well."
" One last question, how old are you? What is your lifespan, and will you be getting any stronger than you already are?"
Verlin turned around and looked at her. " That's three questions, but whatever, On the previous planet I was in, I would be considered 26, but here I would be 19 years of age. For your second question, I, like every other being, get stronger with age until they reach they reach their prime, only difference being I don't have a prime." Verlin stopped and looked down on his hand with microscopic vision and continued," because from what I can see, I'm immortal."
