Chereads / His Dangerous MATE / Chapter 8 - Chapter seven

Chapter 8 - Chapter seven

The silence in the room was ricocheting. No one made a move to say anything and it brought tension to the room. Well, technically the tension only seems to be wearing the maid off.

She was afraid, The priest had listened to their conversation. He had excused himself so serene could bring Aurora from the bath. Aurora was clean already on some parts, so instead of scrubbing the rest of her body, she simply rinsed and got Aurora dressed before bringing her to meet the exorcist, who sat comfortably on Aurora's Bed.

Serene simply rode the wheelchair to where he sat and pulled it at the corner. She was smart enough to not allow close proximity. The priest sat at arm's length away.

"You haven't answered my question from earlier" He noted nonchalantly making Serene stumble on her words and steps.

Serene thinks back to what she had said before he came in. She didn't know how much he heard but she remembered what her last words were before he came in.

"Well, she…" Serene started not sure of what to tell the chief "I placed her on the toilet for five minutes before putting her in the tub, she didn't poop. Just for her to do just that in the tub. What you heard, Chief, was me lamenting my distress.

He just nods his face wasn't giving any expression that showed he doubted what she had just said and neither was it giving the expression he believed her. His face was void of one.

"I'll send for you," he simply says and Serene took that as her queue to exit the room.

Immediately Serene left, he stood up and advanced towards his niece. He pulled a chair from the corner, taking a seat in front of her.

This is not good' Aurora thinks to herself. She didn't know how long her uncle would talk for, but she knew he might just find out about her at the slightest movement she makes. Although she had mastered the art of being still and not blinking, but under his gaze- it was nothing.

"Your brother- your brother is dead." He mumbles as he stares down at her. He paused trying to catch any glint of emotion from the news he had relaid.

"I knew he was everything to you after your parents, he died in the hands of those bastards. The wolves." he elaborated further

"I knew how passionate he was about this work, to put back orderliness and… Protect you,"

He wasn't passionate, he had never been passionate about this. He hated it. If anything she knew her uncle forced him into this. He told him the only reason he existed was to conquer wolves, when the only thing her brother wanted to do was to party. He was a good DJ.

Her parents had just informed The chief (her uncle ) about their daughter's powers. They thought she was powerless, till they got a call at school. She levitated. It had come as a shock to everyone since she never practiced but she harnessed the skill so well.

Her parents were taking her to meet the chief, to train and keep her even when she pleaded with them she just wanted to go to school, and hang out with friends. They simply told her- the only life that awaits her was hunting down wolves and demons.

Aurora had grown angry and a surge of energy burst from within her- the next thing she knew was the car was upside down and she was the only one not bleeding profusely.

That sent her into shock and she became paralyzed, but it had worn off after six months under the care of her uncle everyone knows as Chief.

But her brother, he was the first person to know and he asked her to keep pretending. He knew if she was back on her feet, they would subject her to training immediately. He didn't want that lifestyle for her. He would sneak out with her and they would both hit the club, most times he would teach her how to use the sword, and ride a bike.

Serene was right to note that since her brother was gone, she didn't have any more reason to be out there. But she was wrong.

Serene didn't feel what she had felt that night just by touching him. It felt like a scale had been wash from her eyes. She felt stuff she had never felt before when he spoke, held her and taunted her.

The Chief index finger contact on her skin brought her back to listen to what he had been saying. She had only realized she had started shedding tears after he wiped her tears away.

"I know you love your brother, as much as I loved him. That's why I'll be doing this for you, Rora."

Huh? Aurora thinks to herself

What did he have up his sleeves

"I need to get you back on your feet as soon as possible, so you would take over from where your brother stopped," he declares, his voice ominous

Aurora fights the urge to scoff at him. And here she thought he was here to make her feel better after all that transpired.

"I've come up with two procedures," he proclaims and then moves away from Aurora and heads towards another couch that was adjacent from where she sat.

"One is easy and the other- well the other is difficult…" he paused as if trying to articulate his next words "would be difficult for you," he corrected himself.

"I'll start with the much easier task, a shaman will be coming here in a few weeks. I believe he can make you whole again. but if he doesn't, which I doubt, I'm afraid I'll start to rule out other ways. I'm desperate, Rora"

No kidding' Aurora scoffed mentally

"The wolves are taking more of us, when he barely have any effect on them. I need to strategize and I need you for that," he turns to look at Aurora

"Your brother will forever be known as a hero," and with that he moves to the doorway and steps out, shutting the door gently as he goes.

Just like that?' Aurora mumbles

What if he never wanted to be known as a hero, what if he just wanted to have fun and live his best life doing what he wills?

He lets out the scoff she had been holding.

The door opened and Serene stepped in alarmed.

She shuts the door behind her before coming to kneel in front of Aurora, startling her.

"What did you do to me?"

"What?" Aurora questions confused

"My wound," serene touched the back of her head "it's gone,"
