We drove back to the house in tense silence, the only sound being the hum of the engine. James occupied the front seat, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, while Luke took the wheel. The atmosphere made me acutely aware of the growing distance between James and me.

As we approached our gate, a sense of unease washed over me. To our surprise, the gate stood wide open, and Lord Barrington's sleek limousine was parked in the driveway.

"What the hell is he doing here?" James muttered, his impatience evident. Without wasting a moment, he leaped out of the car and rushed towards the house. I followed suit, with Luke trailing behind me.

"Luke, please wait outside," I pleaded, not wanting him to be involved in the impending confrontation.

"I'll be within shouting distance, Destiny," Luke replied reluctantly, his apprehension palpable. He reluctantly obliged my request.
