Chereads / A Gift For The Devil / Chapter 9 - 9

Chapter 9 - 9

Ophelia's fingers trembled as they rested on her thighs, sitting in Damien's living room. The fireplace flickered shadows off Damien's face making him look distorted and evil. Ophelia couldn't process what Damien was saying because she was trapped inside her head listening to Michael's voice like a track set on repeat, repeatedly tormenting her and then Madison's, over and over mocking her.

"I understand you're dealing with your human drama, but your mortality is at stake at the moment," He snapped at her, Ajax snickered in the corner of the room as he poked at the fire with his fingers. Ophelia looked at him crossly, she knew he didn't understand, he didn't understand heartbreak.

"It's ignorant of you to say you understand," Ophelia stood up from the couch and wandered down the dark hallway to the end where the window was. Damien followed her.

"Okay, I don't understand, I'm sorry your ex-boyfriend cheated on you," He almost rolled his eyes at his own sentiment, Damien wasn't sorry as he caused the temptation for Michael to have the affair with Madison.

"I never told you that, how do you know that?" Ophelia squinted at Damien suspiciously. For the first time, the ever so charming and confident Damien was at a loss for words, she could only put two and two together from there.

"What kind of a person are you? Why would you do that to me?" She backed up from him as if she took a physical emotional hit from the realization.

"I'm selfish, and I'm arrogant and I know what's best for you," Damien crossed his arms over his chest.

"Why would you do this?" Ophelia's eyes became blurry and her face heat up with embarrassment and anger as Damien's true colors were slowly revealed. A dark expression took over his face paired with a condescending smile, he stepped forward closing the gap between them even leaning down to be face-to-face with Ophelia.

"Because you belong to me," He informed her leaving her lips ajar with shock and her head dizzy.

"I suggest you get over this attachment to Michael, you're going to be spending quite a bit of one on one time with me considering your situation," Damien laughed.

"I'm over Michael," Ophelia's voice was weak, even her tone was unsure, seeing him again after avoiding him for a such time had brought up all types of varying emotions for her. This angered Damien, his calm, cool, and collected demeanor quickly faded away as he snapped, the underworld reflecting in his golden eyes.

"Are you sure about that?" His voice was raw, deep, coarse, it vibrated her bones.

She didn't want to answer, she was afraid if she opened her mouth it would be like letting the floodgates open again. He grabbed her throat, his fingers wrapped around her neck squeezing to cut off her oxygen just enough, her eyes widened looking into his, and he looked down at her with a sense of ownership. Her body tightened, and he found himself fantasizing about tearing her skimpy little tank top off with his teeth, how easily it would rip, he imagined what faces he could get her to make amid pleasure and especially if she would bite her lip like how she was doing right now.

"I asked you a fucking question, hmm," Damien snarled against her neck pressing his body against her almost knocking her down with the size difference.

"You're evil," Ophelia whispered breathlessly as he mauled her neck, biting and sucking to mark his territory.

"You have no idea," He laughed.

Ajax avoided Damien and Ophelia, especially Ophelia since he found even her scent to be disgusting. He sat outside drinking a bottle of vodka, alone, in front of the fireplace in his most comfortable natural form. He longed to go back to the Underworld wishing that Damien would just take after his father and bring her by force, he wasn't much in agreement with the whole plan of trying to get her to fall in love.

He drank his agitation away throwing stones into the fire when Hades appeared taking the form of the fire. He delivered a message to Ajax, "Don't you feel that it is time to come home demon?" Hades appealed to Ajax's desires and so he agreed with the God. Ajax would do anything by any means necessary to get them back home.

"Convince my son of the power that he holds, remind him of who he is, what Damianos means, to overcome, subdue and conquer," the likeness of Hades disappearing the fire returning back to its sporadic flames.

"Damien, look what you did!" Ophelia looked in disgust at the hickey on her neck in a large square creepy-looking antique mirror. Damien came up behind her and slowly turned his head to the side looking at the reflection of her looking at him.

"Why don't you give me one then? Make it even," he traced his finger across her exposed collarbones.

"You're not what I thought you were," Ophelia squinted at him.

"And what do you think it is that I am?" Damien's tone was more aggressive now.

"You're like the devil, you tempt people into doing horrible things, not to mention you're violent, and you're obsessive," Ophelia backed away from Damien and he stepped forward with each step backward she took to close the gap.

"I only entice people to fulfill their deepest and darkest desires, I never force anyone to do anything," Damien slammed his hands against the wall next to Ophelia's face, her eyes shut hard. She thought about just how violent he could be and how he turned into a raging monster when he got angry enough.

"I want to go back to the campus," Ophelia ducked out of his trap, she looked out the window longing for her normal life again. She wished she had not been privileged to any of this information.

"You're safe here with me," Damien gave her space this time instead of crowding her but he found it hard not put to his hands on her, he found it frustrating that she didn't give in to the clear temptation she harbored for him. His eyes rested on the ever so slight red mark he left upon her neck, now he toyed with the idea of keeping her for himself regardless of how she felt. He was overtly frustrated with the way she could overcome the temptations she had for him, how she didn't give in when he touched her even though he could feel her heart race.

"Safe? With you?" Ophelia giggled a bit as she thought of the demonic beast that he would transform into when he got just a little bit too angry.

"What's pleasure without a bit of pain, angel?" Damien adjusted the rings on his fingers a smirk decorating his face.

Ajax stomped up the stairs with heavy footsteps, his boots banging against the hardwood floor so loud as if he was a herd of elephants stampeding, he had come in from outside and now was completely drunk.

"I spoke to your father, the King!" Ajax exclaimed loudly, the bottle of vodka was only a quarter way full now and it was about to slip out of his fingertips, not that he cared or needed anymore.

"She's free to go," He burped loudly.

Damien bombarded him with questions, he was furious, this was the perfect way for him to gain Ophelia's trust, by being her hero, and again his selfish father had taken something away from him.

Ajax stumbled over his story not wanting to reveal the entirety of it, and he was tasked with manipulating Damien into forcefully bringing Ophelia to Underworld as Hades was tired of waiting and found it profoundly weak and humane to treat a mortal with such kindness.

The two bickered back and forth, Ophelia found herself wandering downstairs back to that engraved door that led to the basement.

She pushed on the door and carefully made her way down the concrete steps, the smell of stale air filled her nose and she scrunched her face up. She looked around now carelessly as she wasn't being watched this time. Her curiosity got the best of her when her blue orbs settled on a crystal ball.

"It can't be real..." she thought to herself as she touched the smooth curves of the ball. It filled with smoke before her eyes, and when the smoke disappeared she saw Damien, he was arguing with Ajax upstairs. Ophelia took herself across the room and looked through old books full of ancient incantations, she found the one used to make a potion to heal a vampire's scratch, and upon seeing what she ingested she felt like she was going to be sick.

"It's two thirty-seven in the morning, Ophelia, you know that I don't want you down here alone," Damien's raspy voice whispered against her ear, his hands sliding up her waist causing her to jump.

"Guess you'll be taking me home now then," Ophelia spun around avoiding eye contact with Damien as his eyes had a way of making her emotions melt.

"It's already three in the morning, why don't you stay with me, it gets lonely when you never sleep," Damien nudged Ophelia, her cheeks flushed with thoughts of what it would be like to be with a God.

"As you said, it's three in the morning, I don't think so," Ophelia smirked at him.

"Scared?" He offered up a challenge and Ophelia accepted.

"One hour," She giggled.

Damien ran his fingertips over the crystal, smoke filled the glass and showed a reflection of Ajax when it dispersed. Ajax was in his natural form sitting in the bathroom flossing his giant yellow fangs, they both couldn't help but laugh at him as he didn't know he was being watched.
