Chereads / A Gift For The Devil / Chapter 10 - 10

Chapter 10 - 10

Ophelia concluded two things, her body wanted Damien, she couldn't doubt it and it was becoming harder to deny it. The second thing was her brain knew he wasn't what he wanted people to think he was. He used manipulation and deceit to break her heart and her relationship with Michael.

The next day this left her thinking, what would've happened with Michael hadn't Damien interfered? Would he still have cheated on her with that tramp, Madison?

Each text and call that came through on her phone from Damien had been ignored that day, she threw herself into her studying material and her lectures. Unfortunately, you could only ignore the supernatural for so long.

As Ophelia walked briskly through campus, the toe of her Converse caught a rock, she stumbled and was able to catch her balance but her attention was now on the clocktower. It looked like Ajax was there, in his human form, of course, but he was standing there with Michael. Ophelia was angry, she was sick of those two medaling in her life. She never understood why they made her a specific target, but she was done with it.

"Ajax, what are you doing here?" Ophelia stormed up to a rather nonchalant demon in his human form.

"Having a conversation with my new friend, actually, Ophelia, I think he was looking for you!" Ajax snickered like he knew something that she didn't.

"Ophelia," Michael had a small smile on his face, his green eyes like gems in the sunshine.

"I'll leave you two," Ajax made his out of this situation as hastily as possible.

"I don't have anything to say to you after everything," Ophelia crossed her arms over her chest, turning her gaze towards the fountain as she found looking at Michael made it difficult for her to not cry.

"I wanted to apologize for everything, I don't know what I was thinking, it wasn't your fault, I shouldn't have defended that lying bitch, I should've defended you, I always should've picked you," Michael reached out to touch Ophelia's arm but she recoiled in defense.

"I'm sorry, Ophelia, that's fair," He looked down at her fingertips, longing to touch them again.

Ophelia felt a cool breeze rush over her, she turned to the left of her, and in the distance in the parking lot there was Ajax on his motorcycle and he nodded to her. She didn't know what he meant by that slight gesture, or why there was a sudden unnatural burst of wind, but she felt different.

This time when she looked at Michael, all the hurt had poured out of her body; all that was left was the memories they had shared, the smiles, the laughs, and the happiness. Ophelia couldn't fight the feeling. Ajax had put a hex on them.

"No, maybe we should talk," Ophelia and Michael smiled at each other like they were meeting again for the first time.

They walked to Ophelia's dorm, it was just small talk at first, but then Michael's footwork became sloppy as they climbed the stairs and their fingertips touched just for a second. Ophelia couldn't stop her face from heating up.

"There's this party tonight, I was thinking maybe, we could go together?" Michael locked eyes with Ophelia eagerly awaiting her answer.

"Y-yes, what time?" She couldn't help but stuttered, mentally kicking herself for it but her anxiety was through the roof.

"Eight, I'll pick you up, it's off campus," Michael pulled Ophelia in for a side hug, he was wearing the cologne she had boughten him a long time ago.

Ophelia managed to play it cool as she said her goodbyes to Michael right up until she pressed her back to her dorm door and practically fainted.

"I need something to wear!" Ophelia yelped as she frantically rummaged through Serena's closet.

"Did I just see YOU, Ophelia Vaughn, hugging Michael?" Serena raised her eyebrow at me and stood up from her bean bag chair. Typically and rightfully, Serena and Michael didn't get along anymore.

"He's changed, Serena, trust me, I know.." Ophelia attempted to reason with her best friend.

"Absolutely not! Where do you think you're going with that scum?" Serena snatched the dresses out of Ophelia's hands surprised at the risqué choices she had been making.

"To some party off campus, it's at eight, so I really need to hurry," Ophelia ripped the dresses out of her hands, she was acting different and her best friend noticed.

"Who are you and what have you done with Ophelia?" Serena poked and prodded at Ophelia jokingly.

"Just come with me if you don't trust him," Ophelia bargained.

"I don't, so fine," Serena nodded and they began looking for outfits to wear.

Ophelia being under a hex opted for a light blue dress with lots of cutouts with a slit in the hem, it was short and skin tight, she paired this with silver pumps and lots of dangly jewelry.

"I've never seen you dress like this, miss tee shirt and jeans," Serena's jaw dropped. Ophelia looked at herself in the mirror, she didn't see a difference. She liked how she looked.

Everything was all going according to Ajax's plan, he was following strict orders, and the fastest way to get Ophelia to the Underworld was to anger Damien, to bring out his true self, the jealousy, and the rage, his selfishness.

Ajax rode back to Damien's home feeling quite pleased with himself, he indulged in whiskey and a cigarette to unwind once he settled in. Damien had already been stirring for most of the day with his plans being foiled, he wondered where Ajax had been off too.

"I was just going for a drive," Ajax lied, he lied knowing the severity of the consequences.

"I'm going to check the crystal," Damien grumbled running his inked fingers through his jet-black hair. His combat boots knocked against the old wooden steps that led down to the basement.

Damien pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his back pocket, selected one, and lit it with a flame pouring out his pinky finger.

He puffed on the cigarette waiting for the smoke within the orb to clear, and once it did, he saw Ophelia in her party dress.

"Is everything set up for the party, Ajax?" Damien called upstairs.

"Yes, Damianos, everything is perfect," Ajax smiled to himself.

Damien watched Ophelia dance in her room to her music with her friend, she looked so pure at this moment, but his hunger for her was growing and it was never once getting satisfied. He knew now she thought of him as pure evil, lust, damage, and manipulation. He himself was feeling that it was time for her to be chained to him even if he had to use physical chains.

Serena gave Michael the dirtiest look of her life once they got into his convertible, Ophelia ran her fingers over the dashboard remembering how she used to sit her feet up there and let her hair down when they would ride with the top down on the high way.

"You look amazing, Ophelia, truly," Michael ran his hand over her thigh as drove and Serena rolled her eyes. The three managed to have somewhat polite conversation until Ophelia saw the direction they were driving in. The party was at Damien's house.
