Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

" It's time to head back. " Sam said in a low voice. They had been observing the Goblin camp for a few minutes already. The sun was starting to set and it would take a few more hours just to return.

" Yes my lord. " Xyra said in response. She then stood up as the two of them slowly made their way down the hill, making sure there were no Goblins that could see them. Xyra would also cover their tracks every so often, to confuse any Goblins that might track them back.

It was already an hour in their journey back. The surroundings were starting to get dark but the sun hasn't fully set yet. Sam was sweating profusely because they didn't stop to rest, they didn't have time to. As Sam was wiping his brow off of sweat, he heard Xyra's voice and he instinctively stopped in place.

" Wait! my lord, I think there's something ahead. " Xyra said, as she slowly moved forward, making sure she didn't make a sound. Sam followed closely, feeling his heart tighten a little. Seeing Xyra crouch down, he followed as well.

Xyra pointed to something a few meters away, it was black and hairy. It was a boar, eating some herbs that it found on the ground. It would occasionally make grunting noises, maybe to threaten any possible predators.

Seeing the animal in front of him, Sam couldn't help but think of bacon. Sweet, Salty and Crunchy bacon. It has already been 3 days since he's had a proper meal, he wanted to take this pig back, even if he had to carry it all the way.

He told Xyra his intentions and she nodded in response. Xyra slowly took her bow, moving slowly to a better position. She took out an arrow and pulled the string. Her eyes were focused, and confident, as if killing this boar was something she has done multiple times over.

The animal was still eating the herbs that it had dug up, but as if sensing the bloodlust coming from Xyra, it turned around and looked at where Sam and Xyra were hiding. A second later it dashed to the side trying to escape.

Swish!!

Xyra's arrow flew at incredible speed, tearing through the air. Time seemed to slow down for the people present as the arrow slowly made its way to the boar's head. Just as it was about to reach, the shrubs beside the boar shook and a shadow pounced on it, biting it on its body. Only a few milliseconds after that, a loud sound was heard.

The sound was like a gunshot. The birds from the surrounding area flew away, scared by the sound.

The creature, holding the boar on its mouth, slumped on the ground. It was dead, upon closer look, an arrow had actually pierced the creature's eye. It lay on the ground bleeding dead, with the boar still locked on its jaw.

"....." Sam didn't know what to say. He only stared in silence.

What the fck? What the fck? Is that a fucking wolf? Sam was screaming inside his head. He just wanted to eat some bacon, now he's come across a wolf?

Also, it wasn't a regular wolf, from Sam's memory of wolves from earth, they were big, but not this much, there are even some dog breeds that are trained to hunt wolves, this wolf however was so massive that it could eat the boar in only two bites.

Its fur was black with red streaks at the top. It was a scary sight.

The surroundings were silent. After that quick second, the jungle seems to be waiting for something to happen.

" My lord, we need to leave now! I sense great danger! " Xyra hurriedly said. There was panic mixed in the way she spoke, which never happened before. Sam understood, he wasn't that of an idiot to stay here after what happened.

The two immediately burst out running. With Xyra ahead of Sam a few steps, he didn't turn around to see what was coming as he had an idea of what it was. Wolves always hunt in packs, if there's one, then there's more.

Even if he wasn't sure that logic would work on this 'other world' he wouldn't take the chance that it was. The two ran as fast as they could, Xyra was even shocked by how fast Sam was running. While Xyra was the same as always, emotionless, Sam was not. His face was scrunched and he breathed heavily. Sweat was pouring from his head and it seemed that he would run out of energy at any moment.

Pulling something from his pocket, he hammered the Makita fruit on his mouth, and bit into it. As he drank the juices from the fruit, his energy quickly came back and he had the urge to shout, but he didn't, not wanting to attract more attention.

Awooooo!

A loud howl shook the forest behind them. The scared birds quickly flew past them both. After the first howl, a few more came after. They had found the body of the dead wolf.

"Shit!" Sam couldn't help but curse aloud. Just a few more and they would reach the range of his shield, but hearing the howls, he was sure he heard howls of hatred. If so, the wolves will definitely come for him.

Sound could be heard behind them, like the galloping of a dozen horses. Following the footsteps were howls, getting louder and louder, getting close. Sam could swear that he felt the wolves breathing at the back of his neck.

After passing through more trees, they arrived at a clearing. Just a few meters was the territory shield. Sam, not daring to look back, ran faster, when he close enough, he jumped inside the range of the shield. He tumbled in the ground, coughing as he stirred the dust.

After cleaning up the dust on his face, he looked up, only to see Xyra staring outside of the shield. Sam stood up as well, and turned to look.

There were already two wolves, trying to bite through the shield. Their saliva was smearing the ground, but they weren't able to make a scratch. A few more wolves could be seen further, behind the clearing, observing what the two wolves were doing, and what Sam and Xyra was doing.

The duo heard a low growl, coming from the forest. It was difficult to see as it was already dark. The two wolves backed away, their figures disappearing into the Jungle.

A few moments later, the surrounding trees shook, and a figure stepped into the clearing. It was a pure white wolf. It's fur looked like snow, on its forehead was a red spot shaped like a diamond. It was much bigger that the rest, and by the way it acted, much smarter too.

It stared at Sam with it's blood red eyes. Hatred could be seen on its face, as it would occasionally fash it's fangs.

Since the other party didn't make a move, the White wolf gave Sam one last look, turned and disappeared into the dark forest.

" I don't miss bacon that much, rabbit would taste good too. " Sam slumped to the ground in fear, almost pissing himself.
