Chapter 13 - Chapter 14

Sweat beading down his body as it rolled down to his head before falling to the ground, his arms were shaking as he was approaching the last few minutes of his workout. He switched to an even more intense exercise as he moved from holding a planche to an inverted pushup, Gyun groaned as his core felt like it was on fire and his legs were shaking as he transitioned from a handstand on the parallettes.

He breathed in and out rapidly as he tried to make the transition a 5th time, "Argggggh! Come on! Come on!" Gyun fought to raise his legs, after a few seconds he got his legs up.

Panting heavily, being completely in the zone he was about to go for another rep but he felt someone tap his back with their nails, Gyun's already exhausted arms gave away as he toppled over.

Gyun landed harshly on the ground, "Ugggh what the hell?!" he yelled taking his earbuds out and turning to the person who disturbed him.

His sister Haeun stood clearly annoyed holding her coat, "hey where's mom? I saw there was no food."

Like the rest of Gyun's family she was also blessed with good looks, she had her usually long black flowing hair under a baseball cap though this time.

Her features were delicate and thin with a light hazel colored eyes that were only further accented with her bangs and olive skin. Though she was thin she was by no means muscular as far as Gyun knew she never worked out a day in her life and only watched her diet.

Fuck off, she burned the food she said she'll be back in a little bit ok, now leave me alone I need to take a shower." Gyun stood up he down at himself he was soaked in sweat, -Damn I definitely need a shower now-.

He slid the parallettes under the bed, he was still trying to control his breathing as he wiped his sweat with his t-shirt.

Haeun scoffed at him, "Go back to the gym, your yelling scared the hell out of me and Subin I thought we were being robbed so I left her outside "

Gyun grabbed another fresh pair of clothes from his closet, "that's why I closed the door"

"Well you were pretty loud so be quieter"

"I'm not continuing this pointless conversation" Gyun remarked as he walked past her walking out his bedroom door.

He smirked as he thought of a smug remark, "that dress makes you look fat"

"What?!"

Gyun felt the intense glare of his sister but he hurriedly shut the door on his way out and escaped to the bathroom.

-----------------------------

By the time Gyun got out of the shower dry and in a fresh pair of clothes, sporting a loose hoodie and sweatpants, as he entered the dining room. He didn't spot his sister or her friend,

-must be in her room showing her friend around- he thought as he went to the kitchen, and filled up his water bottle, taking a sip of it.

Now that he thought about it he'd never heard of Haeun talk about Subin,

"Meh"

Gyun tried to calculate his protein intake, and how whether or not he was hitting the amount he should to be building muscle.

"Ugh don't mind him he's just my brother, he's an asshole"

Turning to look as his sister came out of her room leading her friend Subin who sported a pixie bob cut and glasses, she was reasonably pretty. She seemed somewhat timid, as she hesitated for a moment before introducing herself, ignoring Haeun

"Hi I'm Yi Subin I'm in the same department as your sister though she's a year older than me" she said giving a short bow

Gyun looked at her, he internally sighed as he introduced himself, "I'm Sung Gyun, Haeun's younger brother" Gyun ended his introduction as he chugged half of his bottle of water.

Subin tilted her head a bit and glanced at Haeun,

"See what I mean"

Subin tried to continue the conversation, "So your 3 years younger then your sister so your still in high school?"

"Yeah"

"And how's that going?"

"Good"

Subin's jaw visibly tightened as Gyun continued to stonewall her, Haeun let out an exasperated sigh as she went to set the table.

Trying one last time Subin asked another question out of pure curiosity, "you know I've known your sister for about 2 years but I've never heard you talk about you before"

"Well I wasn't exactly in a good place for a while so we didn't talk much" Gyun said evading the question.

Subin seemed to catch the hint as she looked to help Haeun with the table, Gyun ate a banana for a quick snack before he went back to his room for a few minutes reviewing all his notes for his first day of high school closing the door behind him.

A few minutes later hearing his mom open the apartment door he set down his notes, relieved that the teachers would make an exception for him the first few weeks of school due to his circumstances surrounding his transfer.

He tossed his pencil onto his notes, it was stressful for him because his mom had already scheduled him to take the GED test at the end of the year and Gyun had barely progressed into the 1st year of high school.

"Food's ready!"

Gyun came back out, he sipped some water from his bottle as he walked and sat on the couch, his mom looked agitated but didn't say anything in front of the guest.

The takeout smelled amazing and it tantalized Gyun's nose, it was sure to taste better then Gyun's diet.

Licking his lips Gyun pretended to be on his phone, he wasn't even hungry in fact he was quite full but the smell was amazing. Glancing at over at the food from under his hood he noted how it was Kimbap and Jjigae.

-Damn, it's just once right?-

Gyun got up to grab some Kimbap but he made eye contact with his sister and froze

"Are you hungry" her voice was smug

Gyun resumed walking past the table to the apartment door grabbing his shoes turning to his mom, "I'm going to go for a walk is that fine?".

His mom who was engrossed in a conversation with Subin talking about her college days perked her head as she heard him. "What? Oh yeah sure"

Closing the door he opted to take the stairs instead of the elevator, he exited the apartment complex and decided he'd just do a quick jog of the block.

Popping his earbuds in and turning up the volume he jogged lightly at a slower than moderate pace, having no desire to sweat or get a workout, he was just out to clear his head.

There was a surprisingly low amount of traffic out, checking his watch he was pleasantly surprised to notice that it was already 8:30.

Looking up at the sky for a moment he was once again disappointed by the lack of stars in the sky, as he focused back on his jog.
