Chapter 25 - Prisoner of Bogano

Remus was led through dimly lit corridors and down several flights of stone steps into the bowels of the Temple of War on the island of Naxos.

The Temple of War was built directly above the prison where the most dangerous and violent criminals were held including those who delved into forbidden forms of magic like Necromancy and Dark Soul Magic.

Remus shot casual glances at the hooded figure that led him. Her voluptuous hips were prominent despite the free-flowing garment she donned.

She led him silently across a landing, and down a flight of stairs before repeating the pattern working their way level by level from the ground level of the Temple of War to the subterranean levels deep inside the heart of the mountain.

"How much further?" Remus asked.

"Not much," Akira said.

Despite the thick layers that Remus had on, icicles of snot were beginning to form on his nose. He rubbed his hands together to heat them up. The deeper they went, the colder it got.

"I'm freezing over here," Remus complained.

Akira brushed his cheek with her blue hand.

Remus felt his body temperature rise suddenly which took away a little of the fear and anxiety that he had been dwelling on regarding the mission they were sent to accomplish as he entered an empty block of the prison.

"Be careful with Master Daegon, he was shunned by the other masters because of his unorthodox ideas," Akira said. "Learn what you need to learn so that we can leave as soon as possible."

The rumour was that he travelled close to the bottom of a foggy canyon called the rift which was known for invoking visions that turned people mad. When he came back, he ranted and raved about seeing strange creatures riding on the back of giant wasps. He said they would bring fire and destruction.

Only now do the other masters begin to realise that he may have been right.

Better late than never though. The other Masters had now agreed that it was worth violating their own rules against forbidden magic in order to build weapons capable of defending themselves.

The weapons that the amphibious beings called Shadar-Kai carried could break Holy Swords into pieces. Remus could copy the designs and make their own but he would require knowledge of Dark Souls Magic and the only person who could teach it was one that they said had one insane.

Remus and Akira arrived at their destination and looked around but there was no one else in sight when they heard a voice. "I sense your anxiety. Tell me. Why are you here?."

They both jumped in surprise.

Remus didn't detect anything out of place. He realised that this invisibility spell was better than the one used by Rhaeya. Remus couldn't figure out how he was keeping himself hidden and decided that he was probably using some kind of mind trick.

A tall Elvish man with long ears, dark hair and a scar that ran the length of his left eye to the middle of his left cheek appeared.

"Why have you come?" the man asked.

"I need to learn Dark Souls Magic," Remus said.

"Nobody NEEDS to learn Dark Souls Magic" the man replied. "Turn back and go out the same way you came in."

"Respectfully sir, I can't do that," Remus said. "Your prediction about the future has come true and now everyone is in danger from the ones riding wasp-shaped airships."

"How can you be sure?" Daegon asked.

"We believe a scouting ship kidnapped him and used him and others like a battery to power their ship but it crashed somehow," Akira said. "One of the beings known as Shadar-Kai attacked us and broke a Holy Sword into 3. The weapon that he used was based on Dark Soul Magic."

"I knew it! I told those half-wits what was coming and they laughed at me," Daegon said. "But I'm still not going to help them as revenge for placing me as the warden in this awful prison."

"You were right and now everyone knows it," Remus said. "But it doesn't matter anymore. If those Shadar-Kai things come here they will make everyone pay a price."

Daegon considered his words carefully.

"I know the other Masters treated you unfairly but this is your chance to prove that you always were greater than all of them put together," Akira said.

Remus thought that there was no chance that this ego play would work. He would definitely see through Akira's naked attempts to appeal to his pride.

"Alright, I will teach you," Daegon said. "But I can only teach this magic to someone with repressed rage."

"I'm not an angry person and I have no repressed rage," Remus said. "I'm actually pretty calm and level-headed always."

"Perfect. Said like someone with repressed rage," Daegon said. "The fact that you think that you have no rage means that your anger is great and churning just below the surface. All I have to do is call it forth."

"You can try but you won't find anything," Remus said.
