Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 8: RESCUE

Jitendra expressed his agreement, saying, "Please take my daughters with you, and ensure their safety."

The girls were taken aback, and Arlo furrowed his brow. Sanjana spoke up, "Father, we cannot leave you here alone."

Dipti echoed her sister's sentiment, "Yes, Dad, Sanjana is right. We won't abandon you."

Jitendra smiled and reassured them, "You both know that I have to go and rescue your mother. You will be in safe hands with him. Have you not seen how capable he is?"

"Besides, it would be too dangerous for me to take you there."

Sanjana, tears welling up in her eyes, pleaded, "Dad, we are not leaving, and that's final."

Dipti nodded in agreement, adding, "Yes."

Arlo, observing the emotional exchange, thought to himself, "They have such a strong bond and care for each other. I wish I had a family."

Arlo had been alone since the beginning of his life, lacking substantial financial resources or friends to rely on. A year ago, he had met a beautiful girl who genuinely cared for him. They started dating, but their relationship ended when she discovered his impoverished background and lack of a family. Despite Arlo's attempts to reconcile, she moved on and found a new boyfriend.

This experience taught Arlo a harsh lesson that finding a loving partner seemed nearly impossible for him.

Arlo snapped out of his reverie, muttering, "Tara," clenching his fist tightly. A mixture of anger and profound sadness swept over him.

After regaining his composure, Arlo looked at them and asked, "Where is your wife, and how far is the distance?"

Jitendra turned to him and replied, "It will take at least 15 minutes from here, and there are a considerable number of zombies."

Arlo nodded and proceeded towards his car, stating, "Let's go and save your wife."

The unexpected words stunned them all. They wondered why Arlo was willing to undertake such a dangerous rescue mission.

Arlo smiled and clarified, "Take everything you need. We will rescue your wife, but please be quick because we need to reach the base before nightfall, or else our chances of survival diminish."

The three of them nodded, swiftly gathering their essentials and some clothing, joining Arlo in his car.

Jitendra took the driver's seat, with Arlo beside him, while the two sisters sat in the back. Arlo spoke with a serious tone, "All of you must stay in the car. Do not attempt to come out. I cannot afford any distractions. Understood?"

All three nodded in agreement.

Arlo explained the plan, saying, "First, we will divert the zombies with another car from the opposite side. Then, we will drive in from the safe side, eliminating the remaining zombies and rescuing your wife. After that, we will leave immediately."

He asked if they had any questions, and Jitendra hesitated before inquiring, "Arlo, how will you kill the zombies while inside the car?"

Arlo laughed and replied, "It's simple. I'll do it from the roof."

Once again, the trio found themselves astonished, but they remained silent.

After a continuous fifteen-minute drive, they arrived at their destination. Arlo instructed them to stop the car and exit.

He swiftly dispatched a zombie with his newly acquired metal rod, placing it on a crushed car horn to attract the attention of the other zombies.

"Hoooog!"

Arlo quickly climbed onto the car's roof, securing himself with the seatbelts.

He announced, "Let's go."

They all proceeded to the entrance on the opposite side of the block, patiently waiting for the right moment.

After a few minutes, the number of zombies had diminished by 85%. Arlo commanded, "Jitendra, drive at full speed and don't stop."

Jitendra started the car, accelerating while crushing the zombies beneath. Arlo skillfully swung his rod, eliminating the zombies that approached him.

Given his knowledge of basic martial arts, dispatching the zombies came easily to him.

After a while, they reached Jitendra's house. Jitendra brought the car to a halt, and Arlo leaped from the roof, spinning his rod and swiftly eliminating more than ten zombies.

Once Arlo had cleared the immediate vicinity of threats, Jitendra exited the car and went into his house to retrieve his wife.

Dipti remarked, "Sister Sanjana, don't you think Mr. Arlo is incredibly strong?"

Sanjana's eyes gleamed as she responded, "Yes, you're right. He has already killed over 50 zombies since we met him. I can't even imagine how many more he has killed before we crossed paths."

Dipti smiled mischievously and suggested, "Should I make him my boyfriend?"

Sanjana grinned and retorted, "No, I will claim him for myself."

Dipti snorted playfully, saying, "We shall see."

While the sisters playfully debated their claim on Arlo, their father swiftly led his wife towards the car.

Jitendra's wife was of similar age, but she appeared younger compared to him. They both settled into the car, and Arlo climbed back onto the roof, securing himself with the seatbelts once again.

Arlo cautioned, "Jitendra, let's leave quickly. The longer we stay here, the more dangerous it becomes.
