Chapter 1 - Luke Dirace

"Do you plan to sleep all your lessons away, Mr. Luke."

Luke woke up with the scene of Professor Lana looking at him with stern eyes and at that moment he knew he was in trouble. Again.

"How many times did I tell you that all these lessons are very important. Even more important for youths like yourselves.

The world is not the same anymore and it is in direly needs of people like yourself. If you plan to sleep....."

The lectures went on for almost a whole hour but Luke was used to it.

He was getting reprimanded by Professor Lana almost everyday and he sometimes thought that she was deliberately targeting him.

"This is your 4th time in a week that I heard from different Professor you were sleeping in their classes and I don't want to hear it for the fifth time otherwise you will be in serious trouble.

Do you understand me loud and clear, Mr. Luke ?"

"Yes, Ma'am" Luke replied with his head down.

With that replied, the bell rang which signified the end of the day.

Professor Lana ended up giving another homework and look at Luke with a meaningful gaze before she left the class.

"Pheww, that was really intense" A boy sitting behind Luke nudge him

"I thought you already got used to that already" Luke yawned without looking back at Mikel.

Mikel was Luke's friend since he remembered. His house was next to him and his mom, Kate, worked all the time so she always took Mikel to his house and asked Luke's grandma to help looked after him, saying "Just leave him there, he will be fine" and that's when Mikel was 3.

This always got Luke's grandma infuriated as she felt that Kate forced her hand in raising Mikel with Luke and she cursed at her every time she brought Mikel there.

Until one night, Kate came back from work, drunk.

She banged on our door saying how grateful she was to us for taking care of Mikel and cried her heart out saying that she just wanted Mikel to have a friend as she didn't have time to be there for him.

Since then Gram always took care of Mikel like her own grandson and Luke thought that Kate might have triggered some Gram's soft spot.

"If Gram knows, you will be dead for sure. FOR SURE. You know how gram is when she is angry and in her eyes, you are a diligent grandson who stay in school so late to study" Mikel looked at Luke with fear apparent in his eyes.

"Then don't let her know. As long as my test results and grade are still perfect she will never know. And. If she know, I'll know that it's you who rat me out and I will drag you down with me Mike" Luke turned around gave Mikel a devilish grin.

"You always disgust me Mr. Genius, I wish I had your brains. Sometimes I wondered how did you do it. Your family's gene is so envious" Mikel sighed with eyes full of envy.

"What family's gene. My gram always forget things and my uncle, you know him. His intelligence is like an ox and this is already a praise.

I'm going to sleep now. Next class is Mr. Ashwani's, this would be my golden time to sleep. If there is anything or he seems to target me, nudge me again." With that Luke drifted off again.

Mikel watched Luke's head drop down and sighed.

"Watch the news when you wake up. Domain has made a move and I don't know if it's a good news."

Luke opened his eyes and then closed them again. He mumbled to himself.

"So, the war is really coming huh. I thought you were making excuses. Dad."
