Chapter 9 - Unrests

Pak Pak Pak Pak Pak

Luke woke up to the sound of Gram's cooking downstair that felt like the earth was experiencing 9 richter-scale earthquake.

He tried to use his pillow to isolate the noise but, apparently, it was no used.

Luke got up and wobble downstair.

He sat down at the dining table and said, "It's Saturday Gram. Can't you cook a little late every weekends? I want to sleep a little more"

"You should already consider yourself lucky, I didn't go up there and wake you up like before" Gram turned around and said, waving her spatula around.

"What are you making for breakfast Gram? It smells amazing" Luke said with his eyes half close as he was still feeling sleepy.

After he went back home yesterday, the experience at the landfill stressed him out so much that he couldn't sleep properly and it was not until dawn that he managed to fall asleep.

"Fried Eggs and Bacons"

"You are the best Gram" Luke showed a thumbs-up to Gram with his head down.

"And Mikel is coming at noon. He said that he wanted to hang out but I know he misses you"

"Missed my a**. After getting a little old, he just went out living by his own thinking that he could take care of himself.

He still peed his bed a year before that.

If I see that brat, I'll hit him with this spatula 'til he remember who had been wiping his a** all those years" Gram spoke while waving her spatula angrily, splashing grease around the kitchen table.

Seeing that, Luke just smiled as he knew that his Gram was happy to see Mikel. She was always like this, hard on the outside and soft on the inside.

"Turn on the monitor, will you?" Gram asked Luke.

..

'After the successful assassination of the Union zone-16 Parliament head, all the zones seemed to be submerged in a very tense environment.

There are many speculations regarding the inter-zones war that might erupt soon due to the existing internal conflicts that haven't yet properly resolved.

The slightest escalation in the situation would result in a war that would lead to results that everyone of us knew better.

Many statisticians estimated that this war would plunged not only these two zones but all of the Domain Union into chaos. The casualties would be unimaginable and many habitable zones would turned into war zones' The reporter spoke uninterrupted.

"These people are just crazy. They haven't learnt a thing, have they?" Luke said unhappily.

"Human never learn, Child. They always seek some kind of vain-glory and their idiotic supremacy.

Always.

They just thought that they are superior being and better than everybody and everyone should serve them because of that." Gram said while clenching her fist.

Luke looked at Gram strangely and asked.

"Why did you seem especially agitated, Gram? It felt a bit personal just now"

To which Gram replied, "I just thought of a person with such attitude and I just wanted to punch him in the face one day"

"Here is your food" Gram placed Luke's plate on the table and sat across Luke, watching the news.

..

'Coming back to the Capital.

Despite having no real conflicts and disputes, internally and internationally, there are still reports of unrests and disturbances in many places.

These reports appeared to emerge randomly, however, the authority said that there must be a perpetrator instigating all of these disturbances and unrests and it is still unknown if it is a threat to the national security.

Initially, it was thought to be a group of unhappy employees who were protesting for their raise and a more inclusive social security but the peculiar thing happened across the Capital at the same time, which accompanied by vandalism, arson and, recently, murder'

Luke gasped and almost choked on his food while thinking back to the one-gloved man in a black suit.

'He must be here to investigate' Luke thought.

'The highly-traffic areas in all Capital's five regions were attacked by this speculated entity to create unrest with the reason remained unknown.

The authority has already sent the officers to oversee the outlook of these situations and hopefully bring an end to these unrests.

If you have any lead that could help in the investigation regarding these events, please report them to your nearest local authority.

Your application would be processed and compensated accordingly.

Now, let's move on to some good news.

Currently, our domestic animal and plant yields spiked up due to a breakthrough in agricultural technology, the project manager sai...'

*Ding Dong

"I'll get it. I think it's Mike" Luke said while running to the door.

Luke opened the door to find an unfamiliar man waiting on the front porch.

He was wearing a powdered blue shirt and a black slack but what surprised Luke was that he seemed to be in the mid 30 and he didn't seem to recall any of Gram's circle that were this young.

With his natural light blue eyes that seemed to get along very well with his shirt color, he gave off a very attractive yet very strange feeling.

What attracted Luke's eyes the most was that there was a cuff on his right wrist that looked like an Electronics Monitoring device that he saw in Professor Lana's history book where the scourging workers were required to wear.

"Is Helena Dirace here" The man asked.

Luke looked at the man strangely while he turned his head and shouted in.

"Gram, someone is looking for you"

"Who is it? Is it Mr. Krouch coming to return my purse again. I think I should chained it to my ankle from now on. I seem to forget everything nowadays" Gram complained while walking to the front door.

When she saw who it was she squinted her eyes while looking at the man.

"You should go.

I am not interested in anything you lots are brewing. Don't drag my family into this anymore. Let us have some peace" Gram said, her face serious.

Luke just stood there, confused.

"But.."The man tried to explain.

"No.

Sean came here two weeks ago and I rejected him. Do you think others have a chance?

Just walk off, Vik.

Pretend, you knock on the wrong house." finished what she had to say, Gram walked back to the kitchen.

Seeing Gram walked back with no interest in talking any further, Vik's eyes were full of unwillingness and he seemed to be troubled.

*Cough *Cough

The sound of his uncle coughing coming from the second floor changed Vik's face.

His gaze turned fearful and he sighed.

"You must be Luke" Vik looked at Luke deeply.

"Send my regards to Mr. Arkil" Vik said and left.
