Derek tightened his grip around Susan and she wondered if he was okay.
"Derek?" she called and lifted his head only to find his eyes red and filled with tears.
She didn't know if the shock of seeing him in tears was the reason she ignored his red eyes but she didn't seem to care about it.
"Why are you crying?" she asked. His expression was bitter and filled with worry. "Are you by chance, worried about me?" he looked aside and that confirmed her suspicions. "Look at you. You're so old yet you quietly throw a tantrum about your worries. Or... are you scared I'll hate you?" She asked which brought his gaze back to her. "You're worried about my safety, aren't you?"
Susan was suddenly struck by guilt. She almost forgot that past his stoic demeanor, he still cared for her, deeply. Even if he agreed to her demand easily, he must've still be conflicted at heart, because he was worried about her safety more than anyone could imagine.
