Mr. and Mrs. Zhang both sat at their dining table with the laptop open to the national exam website. They had Mingmei's student ID details at the ready.
Of course, Mingmei was fast asleep not even remembering that today was the results day. The clock struck 8 AM and immediately Mr. Zhang typed in her student number in anticipation.
He knew his daughter wasn't the best at academics but he heard from his wife that Mingmei had been diligently studying with the tutor in Beijing before the exams.
Her name and ID came up on the screen and her rank column was blank. He refreshed the page and nothing came up next to her name.
Mrs. Zhang frowned, "Maybe it's a glitch. There are so many people checking in at the same time. This happened even with Fang."
"Yes, let's check again in 15 minutes. Give it time to refresh."
15 minutes later, it was the same blank.
30 minutes later, it was still the same.
Mrs. Zhang started to get panicked.
"Let's call the school, honey."
