Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

The doctor left every activity he was attending to and said, "Good morning, Commander." He stood up also."Leave us!" He said. Immediately, the nurses evacuated the doctor's office. He was huge in body size. 6 foot 8 inches tall. He had the body of a basketballer. His chest, strength, and muscles as that of a boxer.

He had the speed of a Koro-Sensei of Japan and possessed knowledge in Krav-Maga and Judo. Whenever he spoke, he spoke with authority and command all the time; the people feared him. Although he would correct the impression to his only child, Jay, that they respected him.

"What bit her?" Commander Jamal asked.

"It was a were..."

"...You do not know!" Commander Jamal interrupted.

"I know, It was a were..."

"...You do not know!" Commander Jamal repeated. The doctor was now frightened. He further asked, "Have you seen a werewolf before?"

"No Sir, I have not. But from the bite mark, our research proves it to be a were..."

"...Good! If the press asks you what bit her, you will say you do not know."

"...But, sir."

"Do you understand me, Doctor?

"Yes, Sir." The doctor replied with an attitude.

Commander Jamal rolled his eyes and sighed. He then moved closer to him. The doctor was now very much frightened. Commander Jamal was close to him. If it were not that the doctor puffed his belly in, in fear, their belly buttons would have touched.

Commander Jamal then repeated in a compelling tune, "If the press asks you what bit her, you will say you do not know."

The doctor stuttered in fright, "Yes... Yes sir."

"Good," was the last word commander Jamal said to his face.

That day, Dad did not go to work. He spent all day with Anna in the hospital. The kids went to school, and Mom went to work; she manned the shop alone today. As usual, they were fewer customers. Some customers asked after her daughter, Anna. But she made up excuses and told lies. She did not want anyone to know what went down.

At the shop, some customers began to scuttlebutt about the new trend on the internet.

"Oh, I heard it was a man," Customer 2 said.

"Yes, it was a man," Customer 1 said. "A young man," he added. Mom could hear their conversation.

"Someone saw her call the cops to chase off the werewolf," Customer 2 said.

"Where do you all get your information from?" The third customer jumped into the conversation, uninvited. "It was the military they called, and the victim was a young woman. Have you not checked Twitter this morning? It is part of the top trends." Mom was getting interested in the conversation. "You should click on, 'Awakening', 'Hallow at Vallout", 'The Werewolf Girl', or '400 years later'.

Someone posted a video of the military shooting at the beast." Just then, they all watched some clips online together, but Mom did not come to watch along with them, she was just behind the counter doing her business.

"So, she would turn into a werewolf?" Customer 1 asked.

"We do not know for sure; the last victims were murdered," Customer 3 said.

"Oh, if I was a sibling to her. I would be so excited; it would help me become the influencer I have always wanted to become." Mom was still eavesdropping. Customer 1 continued, "I would gain a lot of followers. My business would sprout, My…..

Just then, the music station they were watching in the Mom's Bake-and-Eat shop changed to the news. It was a break-it transmission; the entire TV stations and screens in Vallout were intercepted by the Network Broadcast Authority of Vallout (NBAV). The next thing that popped up on the screens was the face of President Prescott. He had intercepted all screens connected to the internet and everyone could watch his live broadcast. He then said, "Howdy! Citizens of Vallout. We strongly apologize for the nationwide transmission interruption. However, it is a matter of emergency and urgency. Therefore, this nationwide broadcast is to inform the great people of Vallout, to debunk a certain fallacy that had been spreading amongst the citizens of Vallout, especially via social."

Everyone in the city was calm; they all paid full attention to their screens in anticipation of the information he intend to send across. President Prescott continued, "It is not a fallacy that a young lady was attacked, but what is a fallacy is the term of the animal that attacked her. The young woman was attacked in a street close to the woods. And the predator was a bear and not a werewolf." The people exclaimed slightly. They began to murmur.

He confidently continued, "As we, all know our forefathers, fought and put an end to the reign of the rapid dogs 400 years ago. They slew every one of them. Therefore, I, Your President, indulge the entire citizens of Vallout to debunk and desist from spreading false news, regarding a werewolf attack. They are nothing but a fallacy! God bless us all! God bless Vallout! Thank you."

He waved to the camera and immediately, the broadcasting ceased.

"This is false!" Customer 3 yelled at the television but was mad at President Prescott's speech. "Hoax!" He repeated. "They are lying; it was a werewolf. The government is lying to us." Customer 2 added.

"It's true, it's true!" Mom exclaimed from behind the counter. Her exclamation drew the three customer's attention; they were perplexed. She then climbed on the counter and said, "It was a werewolf," The customers marveled because she did not join in their conversation regarding the werewolf initially. Mom said to the hearing of the customers, "They are lying: the government is lying,"

'Is she going crazy?' they began to wonder.

She continued. "Get your phones and record me. I am the mother of the infected girl. It was a werewolf that bit my daughter." The customers were perplexed.

"For real?" Customer 2 asked.

"Yes! Yes, she is my child."

Exactly 30 minutes after President Prescott debunked the news of werewolves in Vallout, different news began to spread. And the tool was social media.

"Your excellence, her mother has gone crazy on social media." His secretary barged into his office with an iPad tablet.

"What! Who's the mother?"

"The infected girl, Sir." He became troubled.

"Here sir," she passed him the tablet, and he grabbed it immediately.

"Oh my goodness!" He exclaimed after watching. The content of the video was Anna's Mom, blabbing to the entire world that her child was beaten by a werewolf and not whatever the president claimed it was. She claimed that she saw the bite mark, and she boldly called the president a liar.

She displayed all evidence stating that she was the mother of the infected girl. The evidence included her birth certificate, her Dad's name, and the names of her siblings, Sam, Isabel, and Baby.Immediately after President Prescott was done watching the video, Commander Jamal walked in, "Initially, Your Excellency, I suggested that no one visited the girl."
