I ran towards, leaping into the air and wrapping my legs around his waist as I tried to avoid the large automatic weapon in his hand.
"Enzo, I'm so sorry-
He pressed his lips to mine cutting me off as he wrapped his arms around me. I eagerly kissed him back, grateful to be in his arms and smell him.
Suddenly I heart the sound of a gun cocking, "I'm sorry to interrupt this, but we should really get out of here."
I snapped my head into the direction of the eerily familiar voice, only to see my mother, dressed head to toe in black, and joined with a small armory attached to her.
"Mama-
She was awake. My mother was finally awake. But how? When did she wake up?
I let go of Enzo, landing on my feet and I felt the tears swell up in my eyes.
She wrapped her arms around me and kissed the top of my head, "I'll explain later, we need to get out of here first, okay?"
Suddenly reality began to engulf me, "We can't leave yet. Guillermo—he took Adama, your mother."
A stricken look crossed my mother's face as she shared a look with Enzo.
"What do you want to do, Adalia?" he asked.
She paused for a moment, "We'll go get her," she met my eyes again, "You get on the plane—and I don't want to hear any arguments. Lorenzo and I can handle this."
Normally, I would've fought her to death to let me come, but I was just so tired, I instead chose to board the plane as I watched them leave the cell and go on their way to look for Adama.
As soon as I boarded, I was immediately greeted with medical treatment. They bandaged my wrists and gave me a pain killer—much to my relief.
But nothing they gave me could stop the questions swirling in my head. My mother was awake? For how long? And how did they find me here?
Despite all of the questions a sense of relief washed over my body now that she was awake, like a burden had finally lifted off of my shoulders.
______
Enzo
"She can't be too far," I said ducking behind a corner.
"No," she started, "But by now they would have heard that explosion."
As if on cue, five men turned the corner armed with automatic weapons.
I instantly grabbed a handgun from my holster and stepped out shooting four of them between the eyes before they knew what hit them. Before the fifth could act, I shot him in the leg and he instantly fell to the floor in pain.
Stepping over the dead bodies, Adalia walked over to the fifth guard, who was desperately holding on to his bleeding calf.
I kicked the gun out of his hand, "Where's Adama?"
"I'm not telling you shit," he turned to Adalia, "A De León will never lead us ever again."
Adalia took a knife from the hilt on her thigh, "No one will ever lead you again," she said just before ramming the knife into his throat.
She removed it as he took his last breath and stood back up wiping the blood on her sleeve, "We should hurry."
"We should," I started, "Kill shots only," I said pointing at the dead guards.
She raised an eyebrow at me, "We can't have them know that you're alive," I said.
"Very well," she said as she began to walk carefully towards the end of the hall. I sighed before quickly following in suit.
It had to have been at least ten minutes before we had finally found her.
Adama was in a cell, sitting on a makeshift bed, her black curls messy and her clothes dirty.
"Mama."
Adama's eyes instantly shot up and her eyes swelled as they finally set on Adalia.
"You're awake?"
She scrambled to her feet as she rushed over to the bars, "I'm so happy to see you, okay," she paused, then furrowed her eyebrows, "You shouldn't have risked yourself to save me."
"Nonsense," Adalia said shooting the lock, "Let's go Mama. We have no clue when more guards will be-
"Well this is a surprise indeed."
I looked in the direction from where the voice was coming and alarm washed through my body. There was Juan Carlos standing with ten of his guards with guns all pointed at us.
"Adalia," he smirked, "It's a pleasure to see you again. Alive, I might add."
She scowled at him, "I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all."
He smiled, "I hate to keep my bride away from her mother so you either bring her back, or I'll kill all three of you right now."
"Over my dead body," she said tightening the grip she had on her gun.
"That can be arranged," he said.
"You can't kill us," I started, "You'd lose you're leverage over Aleksandra if you did that. But, you only need one of us. Let them leave and you can have me."
"Enzo no," Adalia said sharply. But I had already made up my mind.
"You?" he scoffed, "What could I possibly do with a guard?"
"I'm no guard," I said, "Aleksandra loves me."
He paused for a moment then slowly began to nod as if agreeing with the plan, "I do only need on of you."
He signaled his guards and they lowered their guns and I dropped my guns to the floor.
Adalia grabbed my hand, "This isn't the way Enzo. I can't just leave you here."
"You can and you will," I started, "Get your mother somewhere safe, I'll be alright."
She paused for a moment, unsure, but before she could object Adama grabbed her by the hand and they started to run towards the place where the helicopter would surely be waiting for them.
I took a deep breath and turned back to the danger in front of me. I could maybe take all of these guys and come out unscathed. But there aren't many places to dodge bullets.
No, getting out of this situation will present to be very tricky. I looked around the hallway and saw a large window that looked over the sea. Perfect.
"I wouldn't try anything stupid," Juan Carlos started, "You're outnumbered and you're outgunned, there is no way out of this."
I smirked at him, "Never is so very definitive. You should try to be a little more creative."
Before he could even opened his mouth to respond I yanked the pins out of five grenades and as Juan Carlos began to register what was happening I threw them at his feet.
As the guards all scrambled to find shelter, I dove through the glass window just as the hallway exploded. I felt a sharp pain in the back of my head and I was out cold before I even hit the water.
