Chapter 2 - THE MATCHMAKER

It appeared that Mr. Dwayne was considering it seriously. Mr. Dwayne looked at his paralyzed legs, then looked at Mr. Lee.

"If you can do it then I will be grateful," said Mr. Dwayne .

"Good then, Ella really deserves to be happy," Mr. Lee said.

Mrs. Lee and Mr. Lee, have no children. When they wanted to adopt Ella and send her to school, Ella cried and refused, she still wanted to be with her father, taking care of him. Because of Ella's stubbornness, they finally gave in to Ella.

Mr. Lee and Mrs. Lee looked at Ella's back as she pushed Mr. Dwayne 's wheelchair further and further away.

Along the way Mr. Dwayne and Ella joked with each other, until finally Mr. Dwayne ventured to bring up the subject of marriage.

"Ella…" called Mr. Dwayne.

"Emmm..." Ella replied.

"I'd love to see someone take care of you," said Mr. Dwayne .

Hearing Mr. Dwayne 's words, Ella's steps stopped. This was something Ella did not want to bring up.

"Do you want to send me away?" asked Ella.

"oh no... my daughter, why are you thinking like that?" asked Mr. Dwayne.

"I love you very much," explained Mr. Dwayne.

"Then why would you ask me to marry and be taken away from you?" asked Ella.

"Listen daughter, I can't be with you forever. It will be very good if in the future when you're not around there will be a good man who will take care of you," explained Mr. Dwayne.

"Dad! Don't say that..." pleaded Ella as she cried and hugged Mr. Dwayne.

"Haish! Look at you, you're this big and still crying," said Mr. Dwayne as he wiped away the tears on his daughter's cheeks.

"I won't bring it up again," said Mr. Dwayne.

Ella smiled and nodded, then began pushing Mr. Dwayne's wheelchair while singing a song to Mr. Dwayne.

Ella has a talent for singing that was passed down from her mother, Ella's voice is so soft when singing. Ella always sang to comfort her father's heart if he was looking down.

A few days after the village's celebration of their boat rowing team's victory, Mr. Lee heard that some people from the big city were coming to visit them.

Mr. Lee was delivering mail from house to house and heard that a Prince from Tulsan City was looking for a wife.

Mr. Lee overheard the conversation of the rich ladies in his village.

"Prince from Tulsan City," Mr. Lee thought.

Mr. Lee heard the name of the matchmaker mentioned by the rich madams. Mr. Lee quickly finished his job of delivering the mail. After finishing Mr. Lee quickly pedaled his bicycle to his house, when he arrived home. Mr. Lee immediately threw his bike away and looked for Mrs. Lee.

"My wife!" called Mr. Lee.

Mr. Lee searched for Mrs. Lee in the kitchen, then quickly picked up the basket containing the shallots that was in Mrs. Lee's hand.

"Put this down, we're going to lady Jim's house," said Mr. Lee.

"Lady Jim?" asked Mrs. Lee.

"I heard that a Prince from Tulsan City is looking for a wife in our village," replied Mr. Lee excitedly.

"Do you want to include Ella?" asked Mrs. Lee.

"Of course our Ella is very beautiful and intelligent, as well as a good cook like you," praised Mr. Lee.

Although Mrs. Lee was hesitant, Mrs. Lee decided to meet a matchmaker for Ella's happiness.

Mrs. Lee, wearing her best gown with a touch of gold lining, went to meet the matchmaker. Arriving at Lady Jim's house. Mrs. Lee looked at a row of nice cars parked in front of Lady Jim's yard.

Mr. Lee pulled Mrs. Lee's hand, "Let's go in! For Ella 's sake," Mr. Lee said.

Mrs. Lee ventured into Lady Jim's house. Once the two of them entered, all eyes were on them. All the villagers recognized Mr. Lee, the postman who delivered letters and packages. They also knew that they came to lady Jim's house because they wanted to find a match for Ella .

The wealthy ladies whispered, "How could they be so confident to find a match for Ella to a man from Tulsan City, when even the men who lives in her village is reluctant to propose to Ella because of her poverty," the ladies thought.

Lady Jim entered the small, simple hall in her house. Lady Jim began the interview selection. Before deciding, Lady Jim interviewed both parents and brought a photo of their daughter. If they passed the first selection then Lady Jim would do a physical check on the selected girls.

Mrs. Lee and Mr. Lee were the last couple that Lady Jim interviewed. Lady Jim found out that they did not have children, but had an adopted daughter named Ella.

Mrs. Lee slowly gave a picture of Ella to Lady Jim. From looking at the photo Lady Jim saw Ella , Lady Jim fell in love with Ella's angelic face, but because she remembered her poverty Lady Jim put the photo on the table.

"Sir, Madam," Lady Jim said.

"I'm sorry I have to decline," said Lady Jim. .

"This..." Lady Jim felt a little bad.

"This is the Prince of Tulsan City, the main heir of the Uso Family. So I can't be careless," Lady Jim explained.

Mrs. Lee and Mr. Lee looked at each other with sad eyes. They thought what Lady Jim said was very true, if the male family in their village rejected Ella, then what about the Prince of Tulsan City.

"I'm sorry!" Lady Jim said as she led the two of them out.

"If there's a match for Ella , I'll be sure to let you know," Lady Jim promised.

"Well, thank you," Mrs. Lee replied in a weak voice.

The two of them returned home empty-handed and empty-hearted.

The next day Grandpa Uso came to the village to see Lady Jim to ask about the results of the selection. Lady Jim showed some photos and bios from her interview, and those who had passed the selection. Grandpa Uso nodded his head in satisfaction.

"Let's arrange a meeting with all of them at noon," Grandpa Uso ordered.

Grandpa Uso found the air in the village very cool, so he decided to go for a walk. Grandpa Uso went to the direction of the river, where he adjusted his glasses to get a better look at the girl who was holding a small spear in her hand.

Today Ella caught another fish for lunch and dinner for herself and her father.

Grandpa Uso was astonished by Ella's quick hand movements, and even more amazed to see that there was actually a fish caught on the tip of her spear.

Grandpa Uso walked over to Ella, "Little girl!" Grandpa Uso called out.

"Great master!" greeted Ella who saw the clothes Grandpa Uso was wearing.
