Chapter 3 - The Oracle of Goltan - Part 3

A rumbling was heard from the opposite side of the door, then the door broke open and five temple guards stepped in. One of them noticed Quincy sitting in bed, briefly stared at him disdainfully, and finally turned his gaze away. At the same moment, one of the guards stepped on something with his heavy iron boots, causing blood to stain the floor and no one to eat the grains from the floor.

"Respected Oracle, rebels have entered the temple and destroyed the pillar." A soldier informed the Oracle and couldn't have sounded more bored. He yawned and continued: "So you have to come with us now."

"My eyes are not always clear, but my mind has never been clouded and therefore I recognize when someone is lying to me." Yasmin no longer sounded so cheerful. "Get out of here, I trust my intuition and will go as soon as the time is ripe."

On the one hand, the temple guards visibly expressed their outrage on their faces, on the other hand, Quincy looked just as outraged and Adán drew his weapon. The temple guards apparently found Adán's idea so inspiring that they promptly did the same. And Quincy continued to look outraged into the void - it's amazing how outraged someone can look, even if it doesn't affect them.

"I'm afraid that won't be possible," said the temple guard in a tone that was between aggressive and relaxed. At the same time, the other guards approached Adán and violently pushed Yasmin away. Adán roared loudly.

"Your mischief!" he cursed through his bared teeth. "How do you treat the oracle? You'll have to taste my iron first before you come to your senses... or what?"

Yasmin screamed as one of the guards swung his weapon quickly and... Adán's right arm fell to the ground. Blood sprayed out of him like a fountain. A scream of pain filled the room. But he seemed to gain strength from it, because in a rage he lifted his weapon with his left in the blink of an eye and in the next moment all the temple guards were lying motionless, chopped up and obviously dead on the ground. Then he too collapsed onto the blood-soaked floor and all his strength had almost flowed out of his body completely... then he saw Yasmin's half-severed head drop down from her body.

And Quincy still stared into the void.

Then the sky turned purple again. Around Quincy, it got dark and then...

He was back on the market square at the time of the vision. He saw again the atrocities of the adults and he saw himself again on a mountain of bones.

'What was just wrong with me?' Quincy wondered to himself and although the recent event should not have left him so emotionless, he resigned completely.

Driven by an invisible hand, he went to his monster-self and was ready for whatever may come. "Quincy?" he asked the monster, which directed its attention to him. And for the first time, Quincy heard the voice of the one he thought was himself.

"Ii wazz once called zzo. But Ii wazz betrrrayed! I zzaved ev'rrryone! But they all betrrrayed me!"

Then the monster cried, laughed, and roared and within a second it was back with Quincy and opened its mouth.

Quincy woke up. "... therefore, the harvest will also be blessed this year." The Oracle ended her prophecy. Thunderous applause and joy filled the city.
