Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

Slowly opening his eyes Damian tiredly looked around the room he found himself in. His body felt like he had been hit by a truck, it was even worse than when he had woken up Ingvild using Serafall's demonic energy.

"Awake already? I assumed it would take a few days at least." The familiar voice of Ajuka entered his ears causing him to relax in his seat, a tension that he wasn't completely aware of leaving him.

"How long was I out?" Damian asked weakly, his eyes trailing over his body. His charcoal limbs had once more returned to their normal form but there was still residual pain in his limbs. Each time he moved a finger a jolt of pain went through his body.

"Thirteen hours. I hope you don't mind me having examined you in the meantime." Ajuka spoke calmly, a playful grin on his face. Ajuka's form of 'examination' included researching everything that had happened to him.

"What happened?" Damian asked, dropping the previous topic completely. He couldn't remember the latter half of the fight, it was like it was hidden behind a veil of fog. From how casual Ajuka was it looked like he won somehow but he wanted to know how.

"You fulfilled your promise to Riser." Ajuka declared simply, a playful grin on his face. Damian had said that he would beat him badly and that was exactly what had happened. Riser was still unconscious even after his wounds had been healed with phoenix tears.

"That's good. I wouldn't want to be a liar." Damian replied teasingly but his relief was obvious. It was a dangerous fight where he quite literally staked everything on the line even though it was dumb. He had a few plans that he was going to use in the event that he could stick the cross in his chest but it looks like he didn't get to see it.

"Yes, that would be quite unfortunate." Ajuka replied in amusement. Devils were liars, they schemed and plotted to get what they wanted by bending the rules. Even the contracts they made each and every day were skewed in their favor.

"What happened after I passed out?" Damian asked Ajuka seriously, attempting to rise into a sitting position but stopping almost immediately as pain attacked his entire body. Not only did his body feel heavier than usual it also felt like he was bloated to the brim and every movement threatened to make him explode.

"Well, I'm not quite sure." Ajuka admitted calmly, ignoring Damian's look of bewilderment. Ajuka Beelzebub was one of the greatest researchers in the world, if he didn't know nobody did. "Why don't you see for yourself? It was quite the spectacle." Ajuka offered, a holographic screen appearing in the air. It was a rather simple usage of the Kankara formula.

As the screen slowly showed the course of events Damian's face darkened over and over. He had beat up Riser but it had an immense cost. He didn't regret doing it but he didn't exactly love the way he went about it either.

"That's so embarrassing." Damian muttered with his hands on his face, not even the pain stopping him from moving. He proudly declared his desire to make an egg monopoly by killing every single chicken and rambled on about his hatred of chickens.

"It was actually quite amusing my dear nephew." Ajuka proclaimed simply, amusement overflowing from his voice. "Regardless, after your sudden burst of strength, Lord Phenex requested that I save his son from death which automatically made you the winner." Ajuka explained briefly.

As a Phenex himself, the Head of Phenex Conroy Phenex knew the signs of when their immortality would end and Riser was clearly showing them. In fear of his son dying, Lord Phenex swallowed his pride and asked Ajuka to save Riser.

"I see. I take it you were the one to heal me?" Damian asked though the answer was beyond obvious. The only person in the underworld that could heal him so quickly was Ajuka and that was by bending reality to his will. It wasn't true healing by any means.

"I would hardly call it heal but that's right." Ajuka confirmed easily. Reality believed that Damian's body was healed and therefore certain issues would no longer exist such as his arms being nothing more than charcoal.

Of course, that didn't matter if the soul understood the depth of the pain. In this case, the body was perfectly healthy due to reality's interference but the soul would instinctively deny it. Even if his body felt no pain when moving, the soul would 'imagine' it and so it would hurt him.

"Thank you, Uncle. I'm glad I have my limbs intact again but… why is my demonic energy sealed?" Damian asked solemnly. Having his demonic energy sealed wasn't a big deal for him, he could break out whenever he wanted with his absolute control.

The issue was the reason. Ajuka Beelzebub was a man who didn't do things without reason or cause. That wasn't to say every word he spoke was calculated but even on their first one on one meeting, Ajuka had a clear reason for meeting him.

For him to have sealed it meant that there was a reason it had to be sealed. Damian had a very limited recollection of the events that led up to him falling unconscious but through the video, he had enough of an idea to assume.

His sudden burst of state, his clearly odd state of mind, and the blood that leaked from every pore of his body all led to one conclusion. He had awakened something, and the only thing that he could awaken was his clan trait.

Wrathful Enhancement, the clan trait of the Thaumiel clan. What it did was unknown to him but it was the only reasonable answer. That, or he was given some kind of special benefit from whatever reincarnated him all these years after he was born. That was unlikely though.

"That… I do not know." Ajuke Beelzebub, one of the smartest men in the world, revealed with a frown.
