As Damian predicted, he was able to move freely by the time he woke up. His body was still feeling bloated from so much demonic energy surging within his body but with time his body would adapt and his demonic energy reserves would grow.
Due to his injuries, the engagement party was postponed to the next week when normally it would happen right after he won the discount rating game. It was quite a convenient thing for Damian since even if he was physically fine he was still quite tired.
'It's probably good for Rias too.' Damian thought to himself awkwardly. Last night Rias had been the last one to see him and their meeting was very brief. She questioned him a little before doing something more daring than she was used to.
She was extremely brave, or perhaps hasty, in the way she lightly kissed him as payment for his effort. Immediately afterward, she ended up running out of his room with her face the same color as her hair.
'She was pretty adorable.' Damian thought to himself with a chuckle while trying his best to wear his normal clothing again but once again he was stopped by his tie. It was something that always troubled him and it seemed today would be no exception.
"Again? I thought you would have learned by now." Alastor teased his son as he walked in, taking the tie into his hand. After one final check up by Ajuka, Damian had been given the green light to leave and so his parents were taking him home today.
"Haven't I taught you how to do it a dozen times by now?" Astros asked Damian as she walked in, an annoyed yet amused grin on her face. The way Damian's mind simply couldn't comprehend how to tie a tie was amazing in a way. It was a mystery not even Ajuka could solve.
"You have but haven't I failed those lessons each and every time?" Damian retorted simply as his father skillfully tied the tie around his neck. Compared to Damian's complete lack of understanding, his father was a master of ties.
"I guess we'll have to do it again then." Astros offered with a laugh. Chuckling at their interaction Alastor backed away, his hands returning to his side. He loved the banter between his wife and son, it was heartwarming in a way.
"We can do that when we get home. For now, I want to sleep in my own bed." Alastor said with a soft chuckle. They spent the night at the hospital while waiting for Damian to recover and the beds were of high quality but unfortunately, they didn't have the privacy he would have liked.
"That sounds nice." Astros voiced her opinion, her voice almost dreamy. Even a single night was enough for her to miss Alastor's touch. Making an over dramatic gag Damian turned away from his parents as a magic circle formed under their feet.
It was a shade of dark brown similar to mud within a clan trait that was rarely seen in recent times. It belonged to the research focused clan of Naberius, a clan famed for its lax moral code when it came to advancing science.
Before the trio could react the teleportation activated and they began hurtling through space, reappearing in a large scientific lab with technology comparable to that of Ajuka's own lab however the room was much darker.
It wasn't because the lights were dimmer nor was it because the lab was clearly underground. It was because of the dozens of moans and groans escaping the lips of the captives trapped within the lab, chains locking their limbs to the walls and wounds covering their flesh.
In the middle stood a tall man with curly black hair and crimson eyes hidden behind a rectangular pair of glasses. The man was famed as a scientist second only to Ajuka in the devil society and was one of three of the greatest scientists in the supernatural world as a whole, Moris Naberius the Mad Scientist.
"I apologize for calling you all so rudely. However, I'm afraid I couldn't hold back my curiosity any longer." Moris apologized lightly, the scalpel in his hand digging into the corpse of a young dragon, the dragon that Tannin had put out a searching mission for.
"Curiosity? I'm always willing to meet new people but I'm afraid you'll have to set up an appointment. We're both busy people, I'm sure you understand." Alastor explained with a polite smile, cold sweat on his brow as he tried and failed to create a magic circle.
Each attempt he made lowered his remaining demonic energy however he couldn't find it in himself to care. He could tell instinctively that this was dangerous. The mere fact that Moris had brought them here, in his mysterious laboratory that nobody had entered before, was telling.
Even worse was the dragon on the table before him. It was alive from the looks of things however it didn't appear to have much life left in it. But the fact of the matter was, Moris wasn't afraid to reveal something that would cause the dragons to attack his clan. He showed it to them which meant two things. He didn't care if they exposed it or… he wouldn't let them.
"Did you know that the exact effect of the Dragon Heart differs from dragon to dragon?" Moris abruptly questioned, his tone even yet it sent shivers down Alastor's spine. It was such a simple phrase yet it was filled with incomparable malice.
"How many?" Alastor asked, his tone empty and cold, as his body shook from anger. "How many dragons have you killed?!" He suddenly shouted, the atmosphere nearly solidifying as pressure descended all around the room.
To know such a fact, a fact that not even the dragons were aware of, meant only one thing. He had experimented with the hearts of more than one dragon. No, not just more than one. It had to have been numerous dragons.
"How many times have you breathed?" Moris asked in return, completely unbothered by the immense pressure and the man charging at him.
