Chapter 4 - Blackish-Red Lightning

Tang Yin roared, his roar held all the emotions and feelings he felt, which included: grief, powerlessness, trapped, desire for power and other complicated emotions.

As if the heavens were responding to his roar of emotions, blue lightning cackled in the sky.

Tang Yin was just the son of a servant; he had no potential to become a cultivator. He knew this because all mortals would get their children tested out to see if they had the potential to awaken a Martial Spirit at a young age.

Tang Yin had been tested, the results had left him in shock and sadness for a few days, he had no potential. His father was also the same when he was tested back in the day. This was the reason why he had been a servant and not a disciple of the Shan Family.

The mortals that had been tested to have the potential to awaken a Martial Spirit had been taken in as temporary disciples by the various families in Maple Leaf City. During the Awakening Ceremony, the Tier of Martial Spirit these mortals awakened would decide whether they would be accepted into a family or not.

Tang Yin's dream was to awaken a Martial Spirit and be accepted into the Shan Family as a disciple. However, this dream had been extinguished when he was tested to have no potential. Since then, he could only hope to follow in his father's footsteps and be a servant of the Shan Family to make a living.

After his father fell ill due to sickness, the Shan Family abandoned them. Tang Yin hated the Shan Family. His father had spent his whole life serving the Shan Family, yet he was abandoned in the end. Tang Yin wanted revenge for his father; currently, however, he was too weak with no hope of getting stronger.

Tears fell from Tang Yin's face due to despair, he quietly turned around and walked towards his father who was sitting under the tree, dead.

When he reached his father, he picked him up gently and carried him to the grave he created. He placed his father into the crudely created grave and started burying him.

The rain continued to drench Tang Yin as he buried his father. After he finished the burial, he stared at his father's grave for a long time, then he got up and looked at the sky with a cold and aloof gaze as if his gaze could pierce the heavens.

Today was Tang Yin's 16th birthday, yet instead, fate had turned It into a day which had shattered his heart into a million pieces.

Tang Yin knew he had no potential to awaken a Martial Spirit, thus it was not an important day for him, unlike the big families in Maple Leaf City.

After a while Tang Yin stopped looking at the sky, he lowered his head as he prepared to go back to Maple Leaf City to witness the Awakening Ceremony of some of the youths in the city.

Most of the families in Maple Leaf City would keep the Awakening Ceremony within their Territory, only allowing those within the family to spectate.

However, there were a few families who would welcome mortals to spectate the Awakening Ceremony of their juniors. The minority of families who did this did it because, it would allow them to increase their fame and become the talk in Maple Leaf City, the mortals who witnessed the ceremony would have a lot to talk about.

The 3 big families did not allow outsiders to spectate, However, the minority of the smaller families within the city did allow outsiders to watch the Awakening Ceremony.

BOOM

Tang Yin had only taken his first step when a small bolt of blackish-red lightning flew down quicker than the blink of an eye and struck him right in the skull.

Tang Yin froze, almost instantly he felt a sharp stinging pain spread throughout his whole body. His azure eyes slowly turned pitch-black as if they had been tainted with ink. His already crimson hair turned even darker, into the colour of blood.

However, Tang Yin did not know any of this as he had fallen unconscious the moment he was struck by the blackish-red lightning. His clothes had all been charred and ruined.

Several hours had passed, and the first rays of light shone upon the world as the sun slowly ascended.

Tang Yin slowly opened his eyes; his eyes were pitch-black as if they contained the abyss and could devour the universe. His crimson hair shone with a bloody light under the sunlight.

The first thing Tang Yin noticed was that the colour of his hair had turned bloodier, it left him surprised and baffled. He could not see his own eyes, otherwise, he would surely be even more shocked and baffled than he currently was.
