Chapter 3 - Powerless

The sun had just begun being devoured by the darkness. There was still time before it was completely devoured and disappeared from the world.

Tang Yin wandered through the slightly busy street of Maple Leaf City. He attracted quite a lot of attention from the people walking on the street because of his father on his back.

As Tang Yin wandered from street to street, anger burned in his heart. The Shan Family didn't even try to spend a few of its resources to heal his father but just tossed them out like broken tools. His father had worked as a servant for the Shan Family for his whole life, yet he was used and tossed away like some tool that had lost its use.

He hated himself, he hated himself for being so powerless against the Shan Family. Unknowingly, the desire to become powerful planted itself in his mind and heart.

Soon, darkness shrouded most of Maple Leaf City. Most of the people in the city were already indoors or at home. Tang Yin and his father were now homeless. After hours of searching, he finally found a spot in a remote dirty corner of the city; this time he wasn't chased away.

Tang Yin gently laid down his wrapped-up unconscious father on the muddy floor, Tang Yin then lay beside his father, and eventually, as darkness shrouded the city whole, he fell asleep while thinking of solutions to heal his father's sickness.

…..

The sun radiated its illuminating sunlight to chase away the darkness. The street was bustling with activity and noise. "Boss how much for that gem?" a middle-aged man dressed in a normal white robe with a slightly creamy colour questioned the store owner.

The store was right beside Tang Yin and his father, Tang Yin slowly opened his eyes to embrace the light of day. He was awoken from his slumber due to the loud negotiations between the middle-aged man and the store owner. Tang Yin decided to force down his frustration and turned his attention to his father.

A loud bang reverberated in Tang Yin's head as soon as he saw his father's lifeless face. "FATHER" "FATHER!!!" Tang Yin cried out in anguish, as he tried to nudge his father awake with his hands, to no avail.

Tang Yin's loud cries and voice filled with grief spread throughout the street, attracting most of the people's attention. They all swiftly turned their heads around to the source of the voice, only to see Tang Yin and his dead father.

"Is that his father? Is he dead?" "Poor boy, he must be feeling hurt." "This has nothing to do with us, let's go." Low murmurs crept into Tang Yin's ears from the large number of people crowding around him, this only added to his grief and anguish.

An hour passed just like that, but for Tang Yin, it had lasted for an eternity. The crowd around Tang Yin had already dispersed. All the people who walked past him on the street looked at him with pity but made no attempt to help him. Even the shopkeeper next-door to Tang Yin was the same. In fact, the shopkeeper even wanted to chase him away because of all the racket he was causing.

As time passed, Tang Yin slowly got up with a dull gaze. He picked up the corpse that was his father and walked, he walked and walked until he was out of the city. At this point, the smell of decay had begun spreading from Tang Yin, or to be more accurate, his father's corpse he was carrying.

Tang Yin walked without rest until he had gone far from the city to a mountainside. Although his legs ached in pain, it was nothing compared to his heart. His only family member, his only source of warmth and good memories had left him.

Tang Yin put his father's dead body under a tree. He then walked to a nearby empty area with only grass and began digging. He was digging with his hands; he did not have a tool to dig with.

Half an hour had passed, and Tang Yin had finally created a grave large enough for his father. However, his hands were bleeding, and even some of his nails had been ripped off. Yet he didn't seem to notice, there was only a dull and lifeless look on his face filled with deep anguish.

Pit Pat

Drops of rain slowly fell, and the rain became faster in the blink of an eye. The sky was covered in dark clouds with the occasional flash of blue lightning.

Tang Yin was drenched. Weirdly, there was black paint flowing through his face, which stained his worn-out and ripped clothes. This 'black paint' was charcoal Tang Yin had used to dye his crimson hair black, this was so he would not stand out like a sore thumb.

Tang Yin stood there before the grave he had dug; his long crimson hair was drooping over his shoulders after it had been exposed by the rain. His hands dripped with blood.

Tang Yin finally couldn't endure it any longer, he lifted his head and roared towards the heavens. This was not because of the physical pain he felt, but because of his grief, because of his powerlessness, and because of fate.
