Chapter 23 - Maple Leaf Library

Tang Yin's next location was the Maple Leaf Library. This place was under the strict jurisdiction of the City Lord's Mansion. The library was split into 2 sections, one for mortals and the other for cultivators.

Tang Yin had come to the realisation that his knowledge towards the cultivation world was too shallow, he could not even recognise a Violet Star Core herb, nor did he know much basic knowledge among cultivators, this visit to the library could be considered necessary and important.

Tang Yin arrived outside the library, there were 2 paths in front of him, one path led to the mortal library and the other path led to the cultivator's library. Tang Yin had been here before, he could only go to the mortal library with his father the last time he was here, he hid the grief in his eyes deep within and moved towards the cultivator's library.

The layout of the library was similar to the mortal library he had been to before, but there were some differences. The library before him looked more like an ancient mansion, there were large decorations hung near the intersections between the roofs, and they gave the library a holy vibe.

The gate of the library alone was 50 feet tall and 25 meters wide, from this it could be imagined how big the library was. Outside the gate were 2 guards, they both wore armour and held spears like normal guards wearing uniforms, but Tang Yin could smell the murderous aura around these 2 guards from quite a distance.

'Heaven Piercing Gaze' Tang Yin used his Martial Skill to check the strength of these 2 guards. 'Just these guards are at the 7th stage of the Spirit Channelling Realm, the City Lord's Mansion must value this place quite a bit'. Tang Yin was inwardly shocked at these 2 guards' strength, they were both at the 7th stage, the same as him, and they both had ferocious Martial Spirits, A bloodthirsty wolf and a huge grizzly bear, respectively.

None of this could be seen on his face though as he was wrapped up in a large cloak and mask, only his black eyes filled with darkness were visible.

The 2 guards turned their attention towards Tang Yin the moment they saw him. "To enter the library, you must pay a Low-Grade Spirit Stone for 3 hours. How long do you wish to enter for?" the larger built guard of the two stepped forward and asked Tang Yin. "6 hours" Tang Yin replied in a casual manner.

"Alright, take this plate, when the timer runs out, exit the library otherwise you will be forced out and banned from returning." The guard handed Tang Yin a plate with a 6-hour timer on it, Tang Yin was familiar with this plate. This was also how the mortal library operated. He had received a similar plate when he entered the mortal library with his father. The guard on that side had also announced a similar ultimatum.

Tang Yin took the plate and handed the guard 2 Spirit Stones. He entered the library without delay, he had to be quick, he could not waste even a second. He had spent 2 of his 9 Spirit Stones so he could have a chance to learn about the cultivation world.

When Tang Yin walked into the library, what greeted him was 2 floors.

On the first floor, there were 2 columns filled with rows of bookshelves on either side of the floor, while there was a passageway in the middle. The bookshelves were filled to the brim with all sorts and types of books.

The second floor was built like a huge balcony hanging above half of the first floor, there were no bookshelves or books at the top, there were only neatly organised tables and chairs, this was the place people would go to sit down and read their book.

Hanging of the roof was an ancient chandelier-looking object which illuminated both floors with a bright light. The source of the bright light was the core of the chandelier, which was imbued with a Light Stone.

Tang Yin looked through the bookshelves on the first floor briefly, he was in a hurry to find the book he was looking for, he only had less than 6 hours after all.

5 minutes later, Tang Yin found the book he was looking for, it was named 'Basics of Cultivation'. Tang Yin grabbed the book and headed for the 2nd floor, when he arrived, he was taken back.

The 2nd floor was much larger than what he had seen on the first floor. Currently, there were hundreds of people on the second floor, but it was not crowded at all. In fact, there were many tables and seats that were not occupied.

Tang Yin quickly snapped out of his stupor, he chose a secluded table and sat down. He opened the Basics of Cultivation book and dug in.

The first part of the book introduced Martial Spirits; Tang Yin was already familiar with this information as it was common knowledge even among mortals. He skimmed through this section, only pausing on parts he had not known before and reading them carefully before continuing to skim through the book.
