Chapter 25

Combat practice

"Since we are all here now. We can start the class. In this class, you will learn the basics of

The teacher of Combat magic was a huge muscular man with a shaved head and clean face. Instead of the typical black robes that all professors seem to wear. This man was wearing some baggy pants that didn't cover the fact that He wasn't wearing any shoes, a tight sleeveless t-shirt, and some bulky metal gauntlets with jewels encrusted in them.

"Oh? the firsties finally arrive." He called with a deep voice.

"Get in line over there, we are about to start." He pointed in front of them.

The students looked a bit confused.

"What are we getting in line for, Professor?" Iria Monet asked shily with her hand risen.

"What is the name of this class?" The Professor asked.

"Combat Magic, right?" The big Hilda Vance answered.

"That's right! We will be doing some combat, with magic!" The professor chuckled at his own jest.

"But you haven't taught us anything yet! We don't even know your name!" Charles Artois was outraged at this professor's behavior.

The profesor scrached his head. "Right, names. My name is Chester Garret. You may refer to me as Professor, Profesor Garret, Mister Garret, or you can just call me handsome." He looked at the female students at that last one and flexed his muscles.

Iria and Astoria made disgusting faces but Hilda was smiling widely while looking at the bulky professor up and down.

The class eventually formed a line like the professor requested, leaving Charles in the first position.

Professor Garret looked at Charles and smiled. "Ah, the pompous Bratt goes first. Very well."

Charles looked shocked for a second before anger overcame him.

"How dare you! I am the heir from th-"

"Yes yes!, I know who you are" The professor lifted his palms up "You are the heir from the Artois family. I don't give a shit. You are just one more student now. My student."

Charles looked even angrier now. "I'll have you know that many influential members of your family have sworn allegiance to me!"

"Yes, I heard my idiot little brother and his retarded son talk about that. If I cared about politics I would have become the leader of the family. Now, show me what you can actually do!" Professor Garret opened his arms as if welcoming an attack.

"Fine!, you asked for it." Charles took his crystal wand out and pointed it at the ground. A small mass of dirt rose into the air and started to change shape.

"Earth spear!" Charles pointed his wand toward the professor. The mass of dirt became a long and sharp object and flew towards its target.

The professor blocked the attack with his gauntlet, allowing the 'spear' to break into pieces.

"Not bad, that was one of the most complex rank zero spells. But a bit slow….what else you got."

"Tsk!, you'll see!" Charles made a wand movement that went from the ground to the sky.

"Take this!" Several pieces of rocks, all around Professor Garret flew up and then moved towards him, aiming for his head.

The Professor bent his upper body down in order to avoid the attack, then, from that position, He moved so quickly that he seemed to disappear from the spot and then reappear behind Charles grabbing his head and lifting him in the air.

"Ahrggg!, let me go! you! barbarian!" Charles shouted.

Professor Garret laughed loudly before dropping him down.

"That was honestly better than I expected. I guess you are more than just a spoiled brat. Now, move aside. Next!" He said while pointing at Hilda, who was the next one in line.

Hildas eyes shone with entusiams.

"Im next!" She took a small object from one of her pockets and held it in her open hand.

"Expand!" As soon as she said those words, the object started to grow quickly until it became a double edge axe, almost as big as Hilda herself.

Siegfried stared at the weapon with interest. 'That is a dwarven weapon! If it wasn't for her height, I would have concluded that she was part dwarf. Not only the weapon, but she also has the same type of bulky body they had. Could the humans have done some inbreeding during the last 10 millennia that led to this?' He could not help but wonder.

The professor smiled. "Right, you are a Vance, one of the few Magus families that still train in martial weapons."

Garret slammed his gauntlets together. "Come at me! young Vance."

Hilda gave a war cry and ran at the professor. Once she was a few feet away, her feet burrowed into the ground and she lowered her center of gravity. Then, the earth beneath her exploded and she was pushed at a tremendous speed toward Professor Garret.

He blocked her attack but it was obvious that it took some effort by looking at his face.

Hilda continued her barrage of attacks, each one of them leading to starting the next one.

The fight continued until Professor Garret took hold of her axe handle with one hand and used the other one to punch her belly, sending her flying back with a painful grunt.

Garret chuckled. "You have a lot of spirit and your attacks are very powerful, but they are also predictable. You also need to incorporate more spells into your attack routine, you only used a simple at the beginning to gain speed but nothing after that. That is something that we can work on."

Hilda stood back up and grabbed her axe after the professor threw it at her.

"Thank you, Professor Garret. It will be an honor to learn from you!."

"Good girl." The professor looked at the five students left. "Next!"
