The large brown eyes looked deep into his soul like they were searching for any speck of evil that Milas had in there. It was a weird moment for Milas who wasn't used to maintaining eye contact with others, well except for the cute female servant back at the mansion. The difference was that he was the one toying with her emotions but this girl was just staring at him like his face was a map to lead her back home. It was uncomfortable to say the least.
"Well I don't really want to trouble you." The girl said in a meek voice. The amount of vulnerability that she showed him made it impossible for Milas to just walk away. There was something inside him that just refused to let him leave no matter how much his mind tried to convince him to move.
"Don't worry about it, you can tell me anything. I don't want to see you crying when I know that I could've helped. If I can't help I'll be happy to give you a shoulder to cry on." Milas was surprised by how gentle he sounded. This was not the same person who could easily kill anything and anyone that wronged him if the chance presented itself. The girl's defenses broke and she hugged Milas while crying into his shirt. The sudden action almost made Milas punch her off but he stopped and patted her head.
"I... I'm a failure. My big brothers ar... are all striker class vampires a... and I'm the only one who has the warrior class. My parents were already disappointed by me being a girl and now I failed to get a good class. They'll probably marry me off to get rid of the shame I brought to the family. I... I don't want to get married. I want to be strong like my brothers, I want to make my parents proud and prove that I'm not a useless girl." The girl mumbled as she sobbed, her tears soaking Milas shirt and reaching his skin. Despite having bigger problems than her, Milas felt a strange protectiveness like he wanted to shield her from anything that could hurt her no matter how trivial.
"I may not be able to help you change your class but I'll give you another way to make your parents proud. I'll do everything in my power to make you the strongest warrior class vampire in existence. I just want you to promise me that you won't cry anymore. It's not good for you to cry and give up before you try to change the situation you're in." Milas said as he lifted her face and wiped the tears off her face.
"You are so nice to me and you don't even know who I am. Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Stephanie Reinheart but my friends call me Step. What's your name?" Stephanie said, her voice had lost its previous sobbing tone and was starting to sound cheerful.
"I'm Milas De Viers and I don't have a nickname. Nice to meet you Step." Milas said and finally stopped patting her head. Step's tears had disappeared but she was still looking at Milas with her big, puppy like eyes. It was then that Milas realized how close they were to each other and that his left hand had been hugging her waist while his right was patting her head. She had her arms wrapped around him and he couldn't find an easy way out of the hug. The feeling from her hug reminded him of something, a familiar feeling he got from someone else.
Milas felt a new sense of urgency as he tried to remember where he had felt something similar. He could almost hear a voice in his head urging him to try harder but the memory was just out of reach. His mind once again focused on the feeling of being hugged by Step and he tried to jump start his memories. Milas wanted to remember something, anything that could tell him who he was and what happened to him. The memory seemed more distant the more he tried so he eventually gave up and released Step from the hug.
"Milas, you're much nicer than my big brothers. I wish that I had an elder brother like you." Step said as she reluctantly released the hug. She honestly felt safe when he had embraced her and didn't want to lose that feeling. Step suddenly felt Milas hand go limp and his body tilt to the side like he had lost support. She looked at his face and saw that his eyes had rolled to the back of his head and blood was flowing from his nose.
Milas had let go of the hug when he heard Step wishing to have an elder brother as nice as him. He was about to correct her but a loud ringing echoed in his head and his vision darkened. He desperately tried to regain consciousness in fear of the thing taking over and harming Step. Milas could feel his hands move but his consciousness was drifting further into the dark abyss.
Milas opened his eyes and saw that the surroundings had changed. He tried to move but his body didn't obey him. His head turned on its own and scanned the room while he could only helplessly look through his own eyes that wouldn't even blink when he commanded them to. Left with no other choice, Milas could only scan his surroundings.
The room he was in looked luxurious with gold and silver decorations running across the walls. There were paintings of phoenixes but there was something terribly wrong with the room. There were deep claw marks on the walls and multiple blood stains of both red and black blood. There was also a dead wolf like beast on the ground with a sword in its head.
The door to the room suddenly opened and a little girl who looked about five dashed into the room. The girl had candle flame colored hair that flowed freely down her back. She had pretty pink dress with multicolored flowers woven into it. Her sky blue eyes were filled with tears and she completely ignored the beast corpse as she ran towards him.
"AAAHHH!"
Milas screamed from the pain that the little girl caused when she hugged his wounds. Well, the body screamed on its own as he had no control over it. The girl looked at her blood stained little hands with fear and Milas' body hugged her back. Milas could tell that he was gritting his teeth but he knew that he had to keep up the act for the little girl. The pain his body felt seemed to disappear when he held the girl in his embrace as he comforted her.
"Hey, calm down, don't cry, I'll always be here for you. Just tell me what's wrong and I'll help you no matter what. I promised to protect you and I won't stop protecting you. Now dry your tears and tell me what's wrong." Milas' body said in a voice that sounded almost like his but younger, like he still hadn't matured yet.
"Uuuww, I was looking for you in the place of the knights and a mean knight chase me away. He said that I'm a stupid princess and that I'm ugly. I don't want to be ugly, uuuww." The little girl was bawling her eyes out as she told Milas what had happened to her. Milas knew that he was pissed as he immediately balled his fists. His eyes focused on the hilt of the sword that was stabbed in the corpse of the wolf.
"Don't worry about it, I'll take care of everything. Let me get healed first and then I'll go tell the mean knight to be nice to you." Milas knew that the words sounded nice to the girl but he knew that his body would do more than just talk to the knight. The girl was happy with the reply and immediately dried her tears which smeared blood on her face. She didn't seem to mind as a cute smile hung on her face revealing her tiny, pearly white teeth.
"I'll tell Dad that you're awake and tell him to heal you. Wait here big brother and don't go anywhere." The girl said and ran out of the room faster than she had entered which was shocking because the dress she had on didn't restrict her at all. Milas watched her disappear with a smile on his face till he realized something.
"Wait, did she just say big brother?" Milas was about to continue watching the events when the loud ringing happened again and his vision blurred. He was surrounded by darkness for a second before he started to feel his body. The first thing he felt was that he was touching something warm and soft. The worst case scenario was already forming in his mind even before Milas was fully conscious. He was worried that he might have killed Step when he was passing out.
Milas opened his eyes and saw Step staring into his eyes with curiosity. He breathed a sigh of relief when he realized that he was only holding her face and not wringing her neck like he had imagined. His worries cleared up immediately and he closed his eyes for a second. It was then that he remembered the things he had seen. It had felt real like he had been there before, like he had done everything that had happened in the vision, like he was reliving a memory. Milas was now sure that it was a memory but if it was a memory, it actually meant that.
"I have a sister!"
