Chapter 2 - Competition

Kaito slowly opened his eyes. He sat up and groaned. "Where am I..." he wondered while looking around. "Yuto!" he called out, praying that he would be here.

"would you shut up, jeez you're giving me a headache." Kaito whipped his head around to see Yuto. Kaito sighed in relief and stood up. Looking around, Kaito became even more confused.

It seemed as if they were in a mental asylum box. However it was around the size of a school gymnasium. Kaito looked over at yuto once more with a concerned look. "whats going on here?" he asked.

Yuto shrugged at his question. "I'm just as lost as you are" he said. Kaito turned away and noticed people were suddenly appearing out of nowhere in a instant flash of light.

People began chatting showing the same amount of confusion. Suddenly a huge screen appeared on one of the walls. The screen showed a man behind a desk with his arms resting on it.

"Good afternoon, I'm sure you are all wondering where you are and why you are here" the man spoke, his voice echoing through the room. "WE WANT ANSWERS!!!" someone yelled. People began yelling and gossiping.

Suddenly a loud screeching noise began playing in the room. Everyone dropped to the floor covering their ears. Kaito screamed in pain almost as if he was being stabbed in the brain several times.

Yuto stood straight whilst everyone else laid on the floor. "What's going on? why is everyone in pain?" he wondered as he looked at everyone laying on the floor.

The man on the screen looked directly at Yuto and grinned. The screeching stopped and the man cleared his throat. "Now, you are here because you signed up for a spot in Spirit Academy." The man said. Kaito lifted his head to look at the man on the screen, his head still pounding from the loud noise.

"You will compete in a battle, the last three people standing will earn their respective spot at this here academy." Everyone turned to look at one another and whispered. The man pulled up a stone that looked alien like compared to the ones on earth. It glowed a bright blue, so blue it was unnatural.

The man gripped the stone causing it to glow brighter. Everyone in the room began feeling as if a surge of energy ran through their bodies. "Now I'm sure you are feeling a bit... strange and that's exactly what we want" he explained. "This stone unlocks what we like to call 'Spirit Animals' they are in everyone but lies dormant until it is awoken by stones like this."

Kaito stood up straight and looked at his hands. "Spirit animals? but how? where did they come from?" he thought to himself. Kaito turned to see Yuto with a mesmerized look on his face.

"So, If you are able to tap into that dormant power then you will have a better chance to be in the top three champions" he stated. "If not well... then I wish you luck." The screen suddenly disappeared and another one appeared with a timer on it.

"Ten minutes? Crap" Kaito thought as he looked around him. People began fighting one another, some of them using abilities and some not. "Hey, lets stick together yeah?" Yuto suggested. Kaito nodded in agreement.

The boys backed up away from the group of people fighting so they would have a better chance of survival. One of the people fighting turned to look at the boys and grinned. "This should be easy" they said as they ran towards them.

"Oh crap! what do we do?" Kaito asked. Yuto thought for a moment and without knowing it, blasts the attacker into the wall. Kaito looked in amazement from what Yuto just did. "How- How did you- huh?!"

"I- I'm not sure... my body just moved on it's own..." he stated softly. Yuto looked at Kaito who was still in shock from what happened. "I think you tapped into that Spirit Animal thing" Kaito said. "Yeah I guess I did" Yuto responded. "I want to do that too but I'm not sure how..."

Yuto suddenly began floating but not willingly. He gasped for air, as if he's being choked. A boy with red hair slowly approached the two of them with his hand raised. The red haired boy slowly closed his hand causing Yuto to pass in and out of consciousness from a lack of oxygen.

Putting two and two together, Kaito quickly ran at the red haired boy. "LEAVE HIM ALONE!" Kaito reeled his arm back preparing to punch the boy but quickly gets thrown aside. "Stay out of this if you know what's good for you... not like you going to pass anyhow" the boy said smugly.

Kaito coughed as he struggled to get up. "I will pass... just watch me.." he mumbled. The red haired boy turned to look at Kaito with his head tilted. "Tch what did you say to me?" he said angrily.

"You heard me.." Kaito stood up and ran at him once more. The red haired boy sighed and used his ability to slam Kaito onto the floor nearly breaking his spine. "Your pathetic." he stated before walking over to Yuto and picking him up with just one arm.

"Only the strong survive, you and your friend are both pathetic weaklings." Yuto coughed and looked over at Kaito laying on the ground. "P-please stop!" Yuto cried out.

Kaito slowly got up once more, his legs now wobbling. Hearing Yutos cries, Kaito's eyes widened and suddenly everything went dark. "Kill them, Kill them all..."

Kaito quickly blitzed over to the red haired boy and punched him sending him flying across the room. "Don't. Ever. Touch. My. Friends." Kaitos voice now sounding unhuman, almost demonic like.

Yuto rubbed his throat as he watched Kaito in awe. "Kaito..?" he asked, his voice somewhat raspy. Kaito suddenly fell to the floor, nearly blacking out. Yuto quickly ran to his aid and helped him up.

A loud sound almost alarm like, began playing in the room. Yuto looked up at the timer just to see that time was up. "Its- over..." The man appeared once more on the wall and started clapping.

"I've seen enough, Yuto Watanabe, Kuragari Sato and Kaito Nakamura you may pass through the doors and be escorted by the guards." The man said before disappearing again.

Yuto helped Kaito up and wrapped his arm around his shoulders. Looking behind them, the red haired boy brushed himself off and walked towards the two.

"Lucky shot kid but don't think that you're getting off that easy... that was just a fluke." he said before walking towards the doors. Kaito gritted his teeth and sighed in frustration. "Hey don't worry about him, we passed didn't we?" Yuto said with a smile. "Yeah." Yuto raised his hand and made a fist. Kaito did the same and fist bumped him. The two boys smiled and chuckled.

"Here we come Spirit Academy"
