Chapter 18 - Omnificial (2)

"You're awake." Danny opens his eyes slowly, his entire body ached with pulsating pain. His left arm felt as if it was burning, an intensely deep pain rising to his shoulder. "Take it easy." A woman was standing over Danny, holding a wet towel. "You've got an insanely high fever." She rinsed the towel and placed it down.

"Where am I?" Danny fully opens his eyes and sees the room around him. He was in an apartment with the morning sun shining through the window. A big metallic fan was whirling above his head, even though it was on the ceiling, the intense headache he had made it feel as if the fan was directly over his head. He looks down at his left arm and his left hand was completely missing, but he had already acknowledged this fact.

"You're in my apartment." The lady takes a seat on a wooden stool next to Danny, who was laying on the couch. "My name is Jodi, just Jodi." Jodi smiles at Danny as she picks the towel back up again, this time fully submerging it in the water.

Danny couldn't help but look at Jodi, her face was stunning. She had double eyelids with a small mole on the right side of her lip, short blonde hair accented with a stripe of purple and pink dye hanging over the front of her face. She wore an oversized Tee with 'Pink Floyd' on her chest.

Jodi reached over and placed the hot towel over his forehead, pressing it lightly into his skin. The water dripped out from the towel and dribbled down the side of his face, but Danny didn't mind. He was too caught up in her beauty to realise the drop of water.

"I'll get that for you." Jodi realises the drip of water and reaches for a packet of tissues behind her.

Before Jodi could even move, Danny grabs Jodi's wrist, shocking her. "Why?" Jodi turns around, caught off guard by Danny.

"W-wha-" Jodi has a startled look on her face.

"Why are you helping me?" Danny was cautious of Jodi. "You're not looking for something are you?" Danny reaches into his pockets, realising his wallet was gone. "Where's my wallet?"

"Calm down!" Jodi removes his hand from Danny's grip and picks up Danny's wallet on the table counter. "It was completely drenched in water!" Jodi slams Danny's wallet onto his bare chest, rippling as the leather made contact with his skin.

"Oh." Danny looks down and realises that his wallet was completely drenched and covered in water. Opening it up, he sees a bunch of Khristal bills crumpled up into a soft ball of paper. "Shit!" Danny takes the bills out, but his fingers ripped the soft damp material and destroyed the bill in half. "My rent is due tomorrow!"

"Hah!" Jodi suddenly breaks into laughter.

Danny looks at Jodi with a judgemental look. "What's funny? I'm about to get evicted!"

"Your face!" Jodi laughs as she clutches the sides of her shirt, crunching the ends as the shirt was too big for her. "You're so clueless!"

"About what?" Danny sits upright, facing Jodi.

"You won't need to pay rent for the next thirty days where you're going." Jodi smiles. "You're gonna be living with me."

Suddenly, Danny realises the situation he's in. He's in the middle of a girl's apartment, sitting next to a girl, just the two of them, in the middle of a girl's apartment, sitting next to a girl, basically, Danny was alone with a girl.

"What's going on?" Danny backs up slightly, dropping his wet wallet on his lap.

"Let me formally introduce myself." Jodi places her hand on Danny's lap. "My name is Jodi, a member of the 'OutCats', an underground criminal organisation of pilots who share a common interest, in bringing down the Mavericks."

"How do you know about the Mavericks?" Danny asks Jodi.

"Why wouldn't we know about the Mavericks?" Doctor Foster appears from below the kitchen counter, standing up with a plate in his hands. "I made a sandwich for you."

"Hey, that's the guy from the Mavericks!" Danny points at Doctor Foster, shocked.

"Yeah, we know." Jodi shrugs it off. "JK's part of the OutCats, working as an inside mole for the Mavericks. I'm sure you two have met already." JK emerges from the side of the kitchen counter, letting his tiny presence be known.

"So I wasn't alone," Danny says out of the blue.

"Alone what?" JK asks.

"Nothing." Danny stares blankly into space, looking in the direction of Jodi.

"Anyway!" Jodi breaks the awkward tension in the air by speaking loudly. "You must be thinking exactly what in the world has brought you here?" Jodi asks rhetorically.

Danny nods his head as he just stares at Jodi.

Jodi scoffs uncomfortable as she picks up a knife from underneath the couch. "JK, if you would." She turns her head slightly to face JK.

JK nods and turns around, facing away from Jodi, Doctor Foster turns around too while still holding the plate of sandwiches.

Jodi takes a deep breath in before placing the sharp end of the blade on her place. In one swift motion, she brings the knife down and splatters blood all over the floor. She flinches slightly as she closes her palm, dropping the knife with her other hand.

"What are you doing?" Danny gets some blood splattered on him too.

"Danny, you and I are special." Jodi slowly opens her eyes, trying not to look at her own blood. She raises her hand and shows the cut on her hand to Danny. "Even me myself can't look at it."

Danny looks at the massive cut on her hand. At first, he doesn't see anything, but the blood starts moving in reverse. The blood starts crawling back into her hand and the skin around the wound starts to close back up, like an invisible stitch.

The massive pool of blood that was on her hand had completely disappeared, being absorbed back into her wound. Before long, her wound had completely closed up and she was completely fine. Jodi exhales a deep sigh of relief as she opens her eyes fully again and turns back to face Danny.

Danny is completely appalled by her blood and the speed of her recovery. "You see, you and I both have Omnificial blood, meaning that our blood is sentient, living and thriving. Not in the way that our blood is made up of cells, no." Jodi grabs Danny's left arm, raising it up to his face.

The wound had completely healed, it looked as if it had been amputated by a skilled surgeon and had been healed for several years. "Our blood has been genetically modified by technology, infusing our cells with Omniparticles. The same particles that make our Omnishells, Alice Everland and Loverboy, sentient."
